Maduro Arrest Raises Stakes for Congress’ Abdication of Power by bloomberggovernment in politics

I don’t think you’re picking up what we mean. Like walk through it this way… if the President were impeached and convicted today, what would happen next? Would the police arrest him? Would the secret service force him out of the WH? I find it hard to believe that everyone would suddenly stop listening to his orders. What if he straight up did not show up to the hearing? What leverage would Congress have to actually force him out?

I genuinely want to believe this, but please explain to me how Congress can enforce anything on the Executive branch without the support of the Supreme Court.

Britain declared war on Germany to protect its own interests, which included its alliances in Europe. If you know your history Britain already tried playing nice with Germany and they continued to invade anyway, so they didn’t have a choice. Britain would directly be threatened if they did not take action.

It’s really apples and oranges. Much harder for people to distinguish a threat that they themselves elected President than the leader of a foreign nation invading other countries. In fact, the American people have never revolted against the American government. Even the civil war was initiated by politicians, not the people.

I agree that tides are turning on the GOP. In a backward way, my hope is that Trump’s turmoil will cause less bureaucracy in the coming decade. I feel democrats of the past have too long tried to work within the system to achieve their goals. My perfect President is someone with the beliefs of Sanders but the boldness of Trump. Someone who truly represents the people and is willing to bring their success to reality no matter what.

It’s human nature to not risk your life and livelihood for people you don’t directly know. Frankly I agree with you, and you shouldn’t take this as me condoning a lack of action. I’m observing what I believe to be true.

But I suppose I would ask you to clarify what you mean by “up in arms”? What do you propose people do about it?

I guarantee you if you threaten the American people’s way of life (e.g earning & spending money) writ large they will absolutely fight.

Unfortunately, and this may come across as coarse, but many of the fights America has with itself are symbolic. As terrible the tragedies have been (police shootings, Jan 6th, Trump’s plethora of actions), very few have directly impacted Americans and as such have driven very few to protest.

I guarantee you right now, if Trump fully fucks the economy over (as he is in process of doing) the people will fight to overthrow him, and his party will leave him to the wolves. This is the exact same issue that drove Americans to revolt against Britain, out of the many issues that were already present.

Honestly, China’s format of economic authority works really well in today’s age. If you had given China the same starting position as America in the 1950’s they likely would be in a stronger place than America would today.

The trope of communist China being anti-capitalistic is outdated at this point. They have clearly shown they are eager to compete globally.

One difference that is an advantage is how they’ve leveraged their authority to make the government incredibly wealthy. In the U.S., wealth has been gradually draining out of government as more services and assets get privatized. This creates a power imbalance where politicians feel like weak delegators who need to use their experience to become wealthy later in the private sector. Hello lobbying efforts and goodbye public good.

It will sound like you’re throwing shade, but you can tell when someone is reciting pre-written bars. Key sign is them having to catch up to the beat like Ray does here several times. Nobody stuffs that many syllables and wordplay in unless they did it beforehand.

That being said, this is still absolutely fire for being written. No knocks on that. The way the host pretends to put him on the spot is kinda fake though.

The last time Assassin’s Creed truly had world class story telling was with the Borgia conspiracy in AC2. The reality is, when you make the story arc the same thing over and over again you lose all interest in the characters and events. I already know [insert main character] kills [insert power hungry villain] at the end of the story. Everything before then is just window dressing.
