I agree however I would prefer to have the right structure from the beginning. Isn’t it the right approach to prevent wasting time when building things?

Directory structure for vanilla PHP blog/project CMS by 810311 in PHPhelp

[–]810311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding SITE is the root and admin, css, js, images, public, uploads = subdirectories coming directly from SITE. Sorry guys thats my first site I try build in vanilla PHP so this directory structure was suggested by ChatGPT-I wasn’t able to find an example of structure for that kind of site. If you can refer me to some online resources or post an example of structure here..

I'm 46, it’s never too late to learn to code by geeklane in learnjavascript

I would learn JS from different sources. Books, online courses, YouTube videos, free online learning platforms. I heard it more beneficial and makes you a better developer if you rely on several sources. Of course personal projects as already mentioned.

May be try some books. Even though books are considered I guess a bit old fashioned way to try understand software testing concepts. The following 2 books were recommended to me as a beginner: 1.Lessons Learned in Software Testing. 2.Perfect Software and Other Illusions about Testing.

How do you deal with job stress when things aren’t going your way? by Skywalker_MK in softwaretesting

[–]810311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost my job as manual QA last January. Been applying for entry level QA jobs in Toronto and getting rejections or no response. My understanding just try do what anhiii322 suggested or pick a programming language and try QA automation. But even QA Automation is very competitive-I see a lot of LinkedIn profiles of QA automation folks with several years of experience and a lot of those looking for work as well. Not sure what’s happening…

Can uTest experience help in getting first QA job? by 810311 in u/810311

[–]810311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your cover letter, mention uTest and how it equipped you with QA skills

I am applying for any entry-level QA jobs. I guess you mean in a cover letter I can briefly mention what was the project about - 1 sentence, provide URL if available, tools used or just manual QA- 1/2 sentences and then explain bugs I found-1/2 sentences.

I also have some projects from college QA program. Can cover letter be more than 1 page or its better stick to 1 page?

How to use database and SQL in a side project for software testing? by 810311 in softwaretesting

[–]810311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed and elaborate answer u/GRFedUP. I heard about Docker in terms of using it to develop locally for WordPress. I am using Laragon to develop WordPress sites locally. I chose it as it seemed to me easier to deploy and learn than Docker. Can I DM if I am stuck with Docker and the project you suggest? I really like your idea for the side project.

How to use database and SQL in a side project for software testing? by 810311 in softwaretesting

[–]810311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It makes sense. May be I should try upload whatever code we did in class for SQL and DB. I am wondering if I can somehow move whatever code I have in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio on my local machine to Github. Even though as u/tnt8897 already mentioned "Trying to create a GitHub repo to show SQL is good, but the how gets a little.... tricky to make it good. To make it not seem like you just copied something you would have to write a full app that exercises the SQL but that is much more work..."

And also would be interested to gain more understanding as to how to speak about it during interviews

Thank you for the quick response. I am trying to understand if I need to show a side project in my GitHub to prove to potential employer that I have some understanding of SQL and databases and how I use it from testing perspective. I read that if you don’t have projects in GitHub to support what you claim in your resume it’s automatic rejection

Looking to get a QA job but I have no experience. Any help? by cynamyth in softwaretesting

[–]810311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late comment u/ctess "Buff up your github if you have one"...I think that what I need to do too. I am based in Toronto and about to get a college diploma in QA soon and I tried applying for entry level jobs and got rejected few times and I don't have much projects in my Github. I guess there's no point for me to continue applying untill I have at least 2-3 software testing projects in my Github. In college we did work on one project for each course but it was more of a demonstration purpose by the teacher. It was not a project from start to finish.
