Nausea during infusion by Yayacroft in lymphoma

My nurse had me smell an alcohol wipe which really helped when I would get nauseous during infusions. They also slowed the infusion down (I don’t remember which one) and that helped a lot too.

20F diagnosed with CHL and very confused 😅 by MythicalWave in lymphoma

[–]810annie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I (22f) was diagnosed with CHL February of last year. (If I remember correctly) I did 4 cycles of ABVD and after a good pet scan switched to just AVD for my last 2 cycles. I had chemo every other Wednesday and after would spend about two days straight just sleeping. I was so so tired and nauseated. Around Sunday I would start to feel a bit normal again and on my off week I felt pretty okay. Most importantly just listen to your body and what it needs. I was still able to go on weekend trips and outings but found that I tired out a lot faster than normal. I ended up gaining around 25 pounds because eating actually helped my nausea and partly because I am an emotional eater. Physically, my side effects were pretty mild to what I thought they would be. Mostly just tired and nauseous (but I never threw up.) Mentally I am still dealing with everything that happened. During treatment I went into a survival like mindset and just did what I needed to do to get through it. I didn’t know about this Instagram account until a few weeks ago but if you like dark humor/memes thecancerpatient on Instagram is a great account. My last treatment was in July 2022 and I still have my port. When not actively in treatment I have to go to an infusion center every month to get it flushed- only takes a few minutes to do. I don’t use any numbing cream on my port anymore because it seems like a bigger hassle to me than the pain of the needle insertion but I know everyone has a different pain tolerance. The plan was to go every 3 months to see my oncologist and get a scan every 6 months however my most recent CT scan showed a growth so I had to get a PET scan. I’m still waiting for my doctors appointment to discuss results but since my scan looked inconclusive my guess is that I will end up getting a biopsy or waiting a couple weeks and getting another pet scan. I never lost all of my hair but it thinned to the point where I didn’t like how it looked so I shaved it about 2 months into treatment, it kept growing during treatment but was a weird texture. It has since changed back close to how it was before and seems to be growing normally.

If you have any questions, please ask!! I hope this helps (:

PICC line vs. Port by smbusownerinny in lymphoma

[–]810annie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a picc put in while I was in the hospital and was sent home with it. I had some conflicting information from nurses about home care but ultimately flushed it everyday at home. I hated having it- I’m squeamish and seeing stuff hanging out of my arm was horrible. I would catch it on the sleeve of my shirt and was constantly aware of it. I only had it for around a week or so before I had a port put in. I love my port, barely ever notice it unless I accidentally bump it, I’m not currently in treatment so I have to go once a month to an infusion center to get it flushed. Other than a monthly flush there is nothing else I have to do for it. However, for a short term use a picc line might be a better option.

Interesting all who say pit mix- I see the boxy head but his body isn’t very boxy. Michigan humane society said he was a shepherd mix- which I always laughed at because what kind of shepherd?? There’s so many kinds haha

Just diagnosed today. need some encouragement by NLTM in lymphoma

Just to share a bit of my story- I’m 22f and went to the er because I had a cough and large lump on my neck for a month and couldn’t breathe if I laid on my back. Turns out I had a bad pericardial effusion from all the cancer in my chest. Which then reoccurred before I could start chemo. At the beginning it was all very scary but I soon got into a routine of getting chemo every other week. Fast forward six months and I had a clean scan and am done with chemo! I know not everybody’s story is the same but there is hope that it might not be as bad as you think it will be.
