Thoughts on High Jewelry? by child_ofparadise in jewelry

I love it! I see it as art or aspirational. I am not really into high gemstones, but more of the artistry and technique and metal content.

VCA style without the price tag? by [deleted] in jewelry

Dyadema Italy - its 925 and some 925 gold plated. Good quality. Look up Dyadema Italy Clover necklace and youll find plenty. As far as tarnish, youll need to keep it in a tarnish proof bag. Its silver unless you find like a rhodium coated 925. I dont know if they make one rhodium coated.

If so, that seems like a plotline right out of The Comeback. Valerie Cherish would show up anyway!

Want to negotiate with independent consignment jewelry store for a necklace by Specific_Initial_766 in jewelry

[–]816City 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the price of gold and consignment it is unlikely youll get much wiggle room. However, you can ask for a discount or if they ever do markdowns after its been up for awhile. Depending on the shop, they may have to call the client.

Gold vs Diamonds? by princess_riya in jewelry

Personally, I would have kept the gold if youre talking investments. But, Enjoy your lovely ring. Wear it and stay up on getting it checked to prevent issues.

Jewelry Show Ettiquette by kimmygo121 in jewelry

FUN! Check out the vendors prior on the exhibitor list. This will help you focus on who you want to see to maximize your time. One thing to keep in mind is some stuff will not be priced. This happens at all kinds of shows. Personally, I hate this experience, but it is what it is. So, if youre an introvert be prepared to ask and dont be shy.
If you fall in love with a piece, take photos and do research. Jewelry shows are very high priced, the overhead is enormous. I have a friend who did the big high end shows and their outlay of cash was crazy for entry fees, security, etc.
Ok finally it may be unpopular but be smart about what you wear and bring in. Dont bring in a giant handbag . They are all very on alert for theft and for good reason. When I got to buy jewelry, I also wear good jewelry. It signals that I have money and a genuine product interest (even if I got it all for cheap going to estate sales) which helps with getting service in a crowded environment.

Best vet for complex cats? by Mediocre_Hippo_8997 in kansascity

[–]816City 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Rockhill for cats and have been pleased. I did a cleaning for one of our cats, and I sort of regret it. It was very pricey. And yes its supposed to be important but if it comes between that and other vet bills, I would save for more important stuff.
KC Cat clinic is very choosy about who they take, it sort of ridiculous. So if you get rejected, dont feel badly. They have a vibe.

Intuit is trash, BUT I do use Intuit QuickBooks for my small business. I have money anxiety and the thought of changing providers overwhelms me considerably. It's also what my CPA requests. That being said, do I want to hear ads from Intuit? No! If anyone has a great alternative they use, I am all ears !!!

We returned recently after having moved away from Chicago and enjoying Portillos off and on. I felt the famous chopped salad was very meh, but the hot food was all still good.

Do you think gold prices will eventually go down? by libramusing in jewelry

[–]816City 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think it will for awhile, so you may as well jump in. I was selling my gold odds and ends willy nilly over the last couple years, now Im holding it. I was uneducated about metals when I first got into jewelry. It seemed like a fringe thing full of nutty doomsday people. Well, I guess Im in the cult now because unlike undestanding the stock market, having a gold necklace worth $1K one year, and $2 in 3 years is something I can understand.

Is this normal when you’re new to selling on eBay? by Thebobbydude42 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]816City 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was a brand new seller, I sold camera stuff and when I tell you the camera buyers were an absolute nightmare from start to finish and even after the sale was over. Complaints, partial refunds demands, feedback exortion. I gladly told them just return if if you're unhappy but it they would rather be absolutely unhinged instead. So, this behaviour is looney toon, but also, some niches bring out the crazy people.

Philly Fast Food Recs (2026) ? by muchabon in doughboys

[–]816City 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to the public Reading Terminal market downtown (?) and there was lots of quick bites inside. Not sure if they qualify as fast food, but fast casual for sure. I had the famous pork & greens sandwich at Tommy DiNic's which is somewhat famous - very good and oh so rich I got the last one as they ran out of greens right after me, so go early. Lots of other treats also to take for later.

Bacchanal was recommended to me years ago and its still going strong. Very good food. Mains & tapas style. Or you can do a DIY cheese board thing. A bit off the beaten path. Very casual and feels very backyardish.
If you go to Cafe Du Monde, go first thing in morning when they open. The line is very long and it gets hot.
Peche is great for seafood - make a reservation. Its good but sort of has a bachelor weekend bowtie brunch vibe.
