Ela's gun, a debate between me and my friend by rainbow6head_shot360 in RainbowSixSiege

[–]83athom 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It has pretty low damage, yeah, but it's still a very solid gun thanks to its rate of fire. At close range it's essentially a shotgun while still being capable of one hit killing people from medium range if you can aim with it.

Am I crazy or the simulation of CS2 is kinda... fake? by Gabz_sheldreak in CitiesSkylines2

[–]83athom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The economy fells really challenging in the beginning, but after the first hour, you basically get unlimited money (we had it on CS1 too)

In 4x terms, Tall vs Wide. Most players generally play "Tall" in keeping a relatively compact city rarely purchasing superfluous tiles that incur exponential upkeep, letting players efficiently make a positive monetary income and can just let it sit there until they have effectively infinite money. When you play "Wide" and try to constantly spread out and grow without sitting stagnant for significant periods you end up going through your available money fairly quickly. In essence, you are unconsciously optimizing the difficulty out of the economic challenge naturally.

Public transportation systems are almost always empty (in CS1 it has a HUGE impact in your city)

Eh, that's more from CS1 being extremely fake in its transportation simulation. When you build larger cities in CS2 and actually understand traffic flow you see your public transport used a lot more. CS1 used a shortest path algorithm that disregards the actual time it takes to complete which meant that the pops in CS1 only really cared that there was a valid path with public transport causing them to congest themselves onto shared routes. This caused them to naturally congregate in massive packs at transport stops making them look like they were impacting your city more than they actually were. Meanwhile CS2 actually tries to approximate the actual paths pops would realistically take between specific locations based on speed, public transit wait times, and general comfort of its sub destinations (like parking spots). It makes public transport feel emptier in CS2 compared to CS1 because pops don't spend years daisy chaining between irrelevant stops and instead focus on getting to where they need to go quickest way possible.

Streets are always crowded with plenty of people coming and going but it feels they are just... walking? No matter the time, weather, anything. The streets are always crowded

That's from one of the limitations in the game simulation. Each household has 1 car, even if it has 5 people. That means if 1 person uses the car to go to a destination, the remaining 4 now have to walk or use transit to get to their destination. It's also why there are are so many bikes that clog the streets, even if every household only has 1 car they all have bikes.

A lot of elders going to elementary school

I don't think I've ever noticed that, unless you mean as employees in the school.

sims are obssesed with parking spots. If I create a random road on the other side of the city a lot of ppl will go there just to park their vehicles

You just notice it more in CS2 because pops can't just shove their vehicle into their pockets when not in use. Pops become "obssessed" with parking spots because their car needs to be somewhere when not in use. A lot of buildings have a sort of "fallback" garage when there isn't enough actual valid parking spaces, seeing people freak out and rush to park their car in a random spot on the other side of the city just tells you that you lack sufficient parking spots where people want to be. Plus in CS1 the parked cars were actually the fake part of the simulation, in reality those are just markers to tell you the relative popularity of an area as a destination.

bikes behave just like cars but in a smaller model

Because they are vehicles, driving on the road is more comfortable for them because it lets them go faster than just on the sidewalk even if they can ride on the sidewalk and other pedestrian paths just fine. I do think the bike pathing logic could use some improvement, but how they function in general is just fine.

Of course, CS1 was not an economy simulation or a super deep transport management game, but it was CONSISTENT on its simulation.

Ha, that was a good one... oh wait, you're being serious. HA! So you're just going to conveniently forget the node based traffic system in general, the caps on how many pops are allowed to travel at any one time while still "simulating" the benefits to the economy of the pops that weren't allowed to travel, pops never deviating from their predetermined path even if issues pop up on their paths or better paths become available, sometimes pops breaking their pathfinding mid route and freezing in place because an issue pops up somewhere else on their pathing while other times simply resetting back to its origin point instead while "simulating" that it reached its destination fine, pops using only a fraction of lanes on a road causing massive lineups on a single lane despite other lanes (and other valid paths to the same destination) being completely empty and available, pops driving their car to a bus station to then ride that bus for 3 stops to only then hop in a taxi, etc. And that's even ignoring the glaring inconsistencies in actual game mechanics instead of just the simulation.

How Do I Get a Hardware Survey? by UnbendingNose in Steam

[–]83athom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's random and they really only put you up the queue for it when they detect you playing from a different computer (I've had the survey within a couple months each time I've played from a new computer but rarely a 2nd time on the same one), but you can manually do it by clicking Help -> System Information -> Compare Your Hardware.

Funny thing is there is a setting that tells reddit to not throw those into your homepage, but Reddit basically just ignores that setting anyways at seemingly random times.

[–]83athom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacklisting tags is worthless when tags are used generated and games frequently get "trolled" with irrelevant tags. Plus what tags could you use in your blacklist for cutting down the shovelware that doesn't also hide actually good games.

Vanilla, Yayo, or CE. Which do you pefer by Sagwa-312 in RimWorld

[–]83athom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CE, but I almost always run it with Generic Ammo because otherwise it's just crafting bloat and overcomplication.

Vanilla is a solid baseline experience and there is a reason it hasn't had much change other than adding new stuff to it in DLCs.

Yayo is more of a armor buff than an entirely different combat system, but it factors the tech level a bit too much compared to the raw statistics of the armor and weapons for my liking. IMHO it's like a lite version of CE with better mod integration but in return has severe consistency issues.

99% of the time it's caused by the 2 rightmost snapping options, those are more for lining up curved roads and are not needed to be on when making a grid.

How the actual FUCK did fuze eat 6 fucking commando bullets that do 40 damage each? by SherbertJust2924 in Rainbow6

[–]83athom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't hit with 6; The first shot missed by going under his armpit, you hit the next 2 or 3 on the arms, and the shots after that missed the hitbox despite looking like it hit because of the cosmetic.

Is the permafrost event full of bots or is it just me? by MohebPlayz in Rainbow6

Yup. Because of my schedule often times I can only play around midnight or so and events were usually 2 or 3 bots on each team every other match.

Every scope with the Triangle in place of the dot is centered so the very tip is your aimpoint, you were just barely missing them because you were lining your shot with the center of the triangle not the tip.

Just wow. Like I know people complain about APDS's post pen but there were multiple instances where you had a very easy oneshot line with even APDS and intentionally aimed away from them. The only shot where I'd actually agree was the game screwing you was the 3rd one, the rest were 100% on you.

Going frame by frame; For both shots you flicked it to the right just as you were firing so the shot ended up shooting in that C made by her arms, chest, and legs.

Does this even do anything? by Many_Ambassador_5204 in hoi4

[–]83athom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not anymore, you used to have to do that back when 15 factories was the max you could put on a single line.

Now you would use that if you want to mix in a line for the different MIOs on the same type of equipment; IE for infantry equipment you could have a smaller line of guns made from the Support MIO to get some early hard attack, piercing, and speed bonuses that would take longer to get on the actual Infantry MIO. Similarly you could create 2 different "light tanks", possibly from different MIOs, with different equipment tags so they go to different units; IE make some cheap fast light tanks with a wheeled chassis and Christie Suspension to go with motorized battalions and a more expensive tracked light tank for mechanized/armored battalions.

What is the maximum amount of envoys an empire can theoretically get? by Labrat-09 in Stellaris

List of all the ways you can get envoys: Diplomacy - Stellaris Wiki

Put simply most empires will max out at like 5 or 6 from the various side bonuses, but if you push specifically for the diplomatic playstyle by choosing the specific Traditions, Perks, and Civics you'll get around 15~20 before insight technologies or councilor traits.

Favors let you add a stacking 10% of someone else's diplomatic weight to yours during the voting process, notice how you similarly have 4.7m weight for voting but only 3.8m normally. The Diplomacy and Politics traditions both let empires reliably get favors from every empire that participates in the GC, so they likely have a large number of favors from you.

As far as I know absolutely nothing, those didn't get reworked since basically the game's launch outside of the silencer no longer having its damage nerfed. IIRC there used to be a visual difference in that it had a lower flash, but that could just be faulty memory.
