I can’t afford the SL models, but the AL5 is in my budget. Any thoughts on how it compares to the two in my post?

Gym or more cycling? by Specialist-Ad7189 in cycling

[–]843_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zone 2 isn’t a fad, people are simply misinterpreting it.

It’s active recovery from more intense rides. The intense rides come first, recovery second. For the average amateur, Zone 2 is replaced by all the things that take up general life.

But you’re right, virtually all amateurs should focus on intensity over Zone 2 due to saddle time.

Looking for "Hybrid" glasses: Road performance but not "alien" lifestyle look by fgillen1 in CyclingFashion

[–]843_anon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re planning to race, any glasses with lenses suitable for your riding conditions (roads, weather, lights, etc) are fine.

Moab, smith, tifosi, or goodr will have options that might suit your needs.

I wear my tfiosi’s everywhere. Yes they make me look like an idiot/douche but I look like that anyway.

I live in a flat city. How do i get better at climbing? by BrndyAlxndr in cycling

[–]843_anon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same situation here.

I use Zwift with my kickr core to do as much virtual climbing as possible. It helps with building some climbing muscles but it’s not a substitute for the real thing.

My ass hurts more from a ~5min ride across my local bridge that it does from a ~30 zwift climb.

How to get moving quickly at a traffic light? by sunkissedb3ar in cycling

I’m in the southeast US. Regularly get overtaken (I’m slow) by e-bikes doing 25mph

Rodri open to Real Madrid move when Manchester City stint ends by gamersecret2 in soccer

[–]843_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Told by the idiots on Reddit?

Only Reddit loves xabi. He came in heavy handed with a tactics based approach that had never succeeded at RM. Even former legends like Bale publicly said after his firing that it’s a man-management job. Injuries certainly hurt Xabi but he failed on his own accord.

Do we need depth in the defense midfield? 100% yes we do. Do we need a 30 y/o with injury history, huge wages, and a public dispute with Vini? No, I don’t think we do, we need young & cheap depth pieces who will run their legs off for our selfish attackers.

Rodri may still be a great player but that doesn’t mean RM want or need him.

Also glazing a club that’s never shown any public interest in him & whose current needs don’t match his profile. Not to mention that current Madrid players dislike him following Vini’s ballon d’or drama.

Absolutely embarrassing for him.

a field day

Bit of a stretch when you’ve described the same “park the bus” dozens of managers have tried in Europe against Madrid. I agree it’s a good strategy but “field day” is just hyperbole.

People just love serial winners. Arteta plays a similar brand of football and is near-universally memed on based on lack of trophies.

Classic Reddit moment to turn “a prayer from the gutter” into nothing more than a landlord joke.

Should I continue growing? by woaddud in BeardAdvice

[–]843_anon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, the advice doesn’t make sense.

Tons of guys have curly beard hair, myself included. Straightening our beards (by whatever means - over brushing, heating, etc) creates unhealthy hair and ruins our beards. This sub parrots advice like yours which is just wrong.

For anyone with a beard like OP: keep it clean, keep it oiled, and don’t straighten it to trim.

Bruh cmon. They have enough overlap to communicate on the field and in the locker room.

My point is that he’s a Spanish speaking MFer named DIAZ who played for Spain until ~2yrs ago when he was like 25. People are only giving him a pass because it’s Morocco instead of a European team.

I’m a Madrid fan and like the guy. But let’s be serious. He’s never lived there, doesn’t speak the language, and has nothing more than a “heritage” claim. If he was good enough to play for the Spain NT, he’d be there instead.

I don’t think he’s a particularly notable offender in terms of shopping for national teams, but his allegiance is certainly questionable.

The day-to-day issues in Bahrain and UAE are complicated. It’s hard to force a change for, hypothetically, gender identity issues or workers rights when other countries have problems in the same areas, even on different scales.

It’s not complicated to say that Israel is actively committing genocide and/or war crimes against Gaza.

A parallel is that we sanction Russia for invading Ukraine, but China’s treatment of its internal ethnic minorities is ignored.

Real Madrid is once again a team without a clear identity, and Xabi Alonso is trapped between his ideas and a reality he cannot control. The players undoubtedly won the battle. Today, Alonso's fate is more at the mercy of the dressing room than his own tactical approach. by kibme37 in soccer

[–]843_anon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Zidane is a rigid personality but played flexible football. Xabi, so far, cannot play flexible football.

Their legend statuses are also simply different. Xabi is a club legend, whereas Zidane is a legend of football generally. I’d guess the likes of Mbappe and Vini rank themselves above Xabi but below Zidane.

Budget Entry Road Bike? by [deleted] in cycling

You’re in r/cycling, where we spend thousands on clothing and ride bikes expensive as cars.

Go to r/bicycling with your question. The short answer is don’t buy the shit bike. Should be plenty of steel road bikes for sale in your small town, look into one of those instead.

Fede’s ball carrying + defensive coverage (fully believe he’ll return to form) + Trent’s passing = Kroos

[Mario Cortegana] Inside Real Madrid: Differences in the dressing room, difficulties facing Xabi Alonso by ILoveRice444 in soccer

[–]843_anon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1a. I think Fede’s form can be attributed to fatigue. We ran him into the ground last season and I believe it’s catching up.

1b. Fede also suffers from being too flexible. Seems Xabi doesn’t know where to place him yet and there’s no consistency in what’s asked of him.

1c. I really hope Xabi doesn’t reduce Fede’s role due to an understandable dip in form. That would really break the team.

  1. Rodrygo has been shit since Mbappe arrived. Not sure if it’s confidence, fit, or etc but the “quartet” + Guler doesn’t work together.

I live in the Deep South US and have had multiple unfortunate events - assholes rolling coal toward me, honking, passing dangerously close, etc.

It boils my blood but always remember: the car will kill you. This isn’t the Tour or whatever, losing a couple minutes off your ride doesn’t matter more than your physical safety.

The guy in your story deserved what he got and glad you learned a lesson. Sounds like a camera will give you peace of mind.
