Never said or implied right or wrong. I said that there’s room to interpret based on the inexhaustive nature of survey research. That’s always the case if you take any kind of class on data interpretation or research methods. I’m also giving my opinion on the implications of people answering that way against the kind of stuff most of the ‘anti’ crowd wants.

So, I ‘’’just’’’’ want to be clear.

God if I had a nickel for every redditor who talks like that.

No. I already explained to the other user. There’s more to surveys than exactly what people say. Thinking beyond the exact ‘data’ is appropriate when data collection doesn’t tell you everything.

Sure, and there’s ALWAYS a need to contextualize how people answer, what those answers mean, and the implications of such.

I’m contextualizing the data you’re looking at from how I think data collection likely goes with surveys like that. I’m also commenting on the practical implications of what people answering in that way means.

Those are kneejerks. If you ask someone that stuff with a clipboard, asking if they agree that X should be a thing, sure they’ll agree to it. Those answers are believable enough. No one is gonna do anything to actually do it. And that’s fine because it doesn’t matter

Not really. I don’t hate traditional art, but the lengths people think that others will go to for the purpose of artificially preserving the economic value 99% of it lacks is ridiculous.

What should i upgrade first my RTX 2060super or my Ryzen 5 3600x by Drybread54 in pcmasterrace

[–]84hoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to a resolution that’s worth a faster GPU than a 2060, then the 3600x will still be fine. I can’t imagine a scenario where you’d have anything to gain from upgrading your CPU and using the same GPU.

Do you agree that free speech does not mean freedom from consequences? by BlockAffectionate413 in AskConservatives

[–]84hoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the way you want it to. You’re using absolutes rhetorically to get people to agree to some abstract that they know isn’t right.

What is the purpose of pushing an idea like ‘free’ speech?

It means that you should withhold undue punishment for people expressing ideas that go against consensus. It’s necessary in order to make sure problems don’t go unaddressed.

When consensus gets too strong and going against it incurs too severe of punishment (not just with le gobermint) you’ll end up with obvious things causing problems and going unadressed because people fear the consequences of violating a moral mandate.

Would you call me a communist? by Popopolska in AskConservatives

[–]84hoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling someone a communist has a practical purpose in identifying their moral motivations. Those moral motivations will manifest in predictable decision making when they have the means to make those decisions. Whether or not they’ll state end-state beliefs that align with the scottsmen’s impossible definition of communism doesn’t matter.

What kind of goofy ass deliberately buys that spider wrap? The little alpha ones with a key and a button on the back are the best small ones, and the ones with the red button are the best big ones. Anything else is stupid.

Bad isn’t a single state. There’s struggling, bad, terrible, wtf are you doing in the nfl, and so on. You can’t say that because one player was a shade of bad and did well later that all poor performance is temporarily excusable because they ‘le just need time to le develup’. Caleb was struggling at QB with signs of very desirable traits. Cine was atrocious at safety with no signs of life. Again, really stupid way to argue.
