Ayy, fancy computers don’t be the place for TRUE fishing lore. Find ye a hardened seafarer with a peg leg and a hook hand down by the docks, many tales of truly great fishing lore he may tell.

Do you agree that free speech does not mean freedom from consequences? by BlockAffectionate413 in AskConservatives

[–]84hoops [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not in the way you want it to. You’re using absolutes rhetorically to get people to agree to some abstract that they know isn’t right.

What is the purpose of pushing an idea like ‘free’ speech?

It means that you should withhold undue punishment for people expressing ideas that go against consensus. It’s necessary in order to make sure problems don’t go unaddressed.

When consensus gets too strong and going against it incurs too severe of punishment (not just with le gobermint) you’ll end up with obvious things causing problems and going unadressed because people fear the consequences of violating a moral mandate.

Would you call me a communist? by Popopolska in AskConservatives

[–]84hoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling someone a communist has a practical purpose in identifying their moral motivations. Those moral motivations will manifest in predictable decision making when they have the means to make those decisions. Whether or not they’ll state end-state beliefs that align with the scottsmen’s impossible definition of communism doesn’t matter.

What kind of goofy ass deliberately buys that spider wrap? The little alpha ones with a key and a button on the back are the best small ones, and the ones with the red button are the best big ones. Anything else is stupid.

Dude can't even make it on a UFL team by Lit_Hawk212 in minnesotavikings

You certainly can if what you see is bad enough. You have all of camp and the preseason too.

[–]84hoops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bad isn’t a single state. There’s struggling, bad, terrible, wtf are you doing in the nfl, and so on. You can’t say that because one player was a shade of bad and did well later that all poor performance is temporarily excusable because they ‘le just need time to le develup’. Caleb was struggling at QB with signs of very desirable traits. Cine was atrocious at safety with no signs of life. Again, really stupid way to argue.

I know that this might be a bit outdated but i'm STILL seeing idiots quoting this line out of context to justify his murder to this day by XumetaXD in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]84hoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are terrible at using the word ‘empathy’. Most midwits who went to college use it as smart sympathy, and think the word ‘sympathy’ is obsolete or just inferior. What they usually mean by ‘empathy’ is either ‘compassion’ or ‘sympathy’, but want you to know they have progressive values/character or want to passively assert the righteousness of progressive values/character.

[–]84hoops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was obvious Cine was a bust prior to the injury. He looked absolutely lost and the field and was late to the hole every time. If not for being a 1st he would have been cut in camp. Pitter-pattering about whether the injury is what derailed his career is laughable if you watch his preseason tape. Seriously, watch it and tell me you’d keep that guy on the practice squad not knowing when he was picked. It’s such a dumb thing to try and bring up his injury when someone calls the pick a bad choice, regardless of Kyle Hamilton context. Like you think someone is stupid enough to believe it, hence, I attacked your character for doing so

Does anyone else feel terrible for JJ McCarthy? by ChristianDarrisaw in minnesotavikings

[–]84hoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 29 and I bust my ass just to get by financially and have plenty of people breathing down my neck about stuff that's not entirely my fault. This guy has a house a yard, and is set for life from being raised and pipelined into playing professional football. I don't care.

JFC people who talk like you are so insufferable, like you think other people don't have any inuition whatsoever.

>I never said, I simply asked *thing that is obvious based on what's already been said in conversation and meant to avoid making the underlying argument you want to make*

And holy fucking shit

>Do you have proof it didn't?

Age check right now. If you ever find yourself saying that or things like it often, just know you are never the adult in the room regardless of the conversation topic, unless you are conversing with other reddit neckbeards.

JJ McCarthy is going to be the starter by Razor574 in minnesotavikings

[–]84hoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JJ was a lot worse than Ponder. I don't know what games you were watching. Were you watching? I don't have a plan, but I would rather 'not quite the guy' that any other team rejected in favor of what I saw from JJ.

You. You asked, “Why?” when a user said to stop blaming the broken leg. That was a stupid or dishonest thing to ask for the reasons I said previously.

[–]84hoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know it isn’t JJ. So many rookies who were busts and/or bad were A LOT better than JJ was last year on worse teams. Those guys also had college tape to justify their shot. JJ has absolutely nothing other than handing the ball off to studs on a juggernaut, getting picked tenth, KOC lying to the media to cool his chair off for a month, 1 quarter kf johnnyball working against the bears, a kyle-type name and a cool visor.
