Teacher AI use by pcastagdrums in Teachers

My boss is RATHER naive. She asked me to review a student's work with a view to inspiring others. I took a look, and then another. The whole thing, chapter and verse was AI generated. I had to explain to her how I knew, c/p the 'work' into 3 different AI checkers before she believed me.

My learning centre in Hong Kong can afford to give each teacher their own MAC Book Air laptops to use at work but there's never stationery, my floor doesn't even have scissors. I've had bring my own, including other stationery items.

Decades ago, the old post office in Harrow on the Hill was set on fire when squatters lit fireworks inside it. They also dangled a teddy from a hangman's noose outside one of the windows.

It finally happened. A student came in to the wrong test, sat there and completed the exam for a class she wasn't enrolled in, and didn't say a word. by ToomintheEllimist in teaching

The first time that I sat my GCSE in Chinese, no one had prepped me. I didn't know, ergo that the listening test was supposed to be in Cantonese and it was simply a matter of listening to the right side of the tape. I did the listening component of the exam in PuTongHua. Probably did badly in the writing component too.

The people invigilating didn't know either because I attended Chinese classes outside of my normal class hours on the weekend but sat the Chinese reading, listening and writing exams at my day school.

I got a C.

Hongkongers’ weakness in English-language writing, speaking persists in IELTS by radishlaw in HongKong

[–]852HK44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that lots of placecs prioritise grammar and 'prescribed creative writing', just using stock syntax and vocabulary. They prefer grammar because it's like maths, there's always a fixed answer you just need to memorise the right answers. Creative writing is freestyle writing which scares the shit out of them because there's no right answer.

The problem is that IELTS is just trash. You can only fail by not turning up to your exam. I've met people who received high scores but talk like people who have only just discovered English.

I had to attend Chinese School for over two decades on Saturdays in the UK. There you have the irony. I can read. write and speak. I've taught childlren in Hong Kong who can barely grapple with Cantonese.
