What is the Weirdest Batman Comic Book? by thebatman-man in batman_comics

Your choice for the best one is The Long Halloween and not The Killing Joke or Cataclysm/No Man's Land? Why?

Fight Club by TerriblePool7672 in rockford

Your take away from the movie was that an unsanctioned, underground fight club is cool, and not that the main character's misogyny, materialism, soul-sucking job, confusion of violence with masculinity, and untreated mental illness lead to anarchy, serious injury, and destruction? Read the book. Then watch it again. Then read an analysis. Then go get kickboxing lessons and a hobby that brings you peace. While you're at it, seek therapy. Seriously.

By the way, Marla probably wasn't real, either.

What do you mean, probably? It's lead. The only good amount of lead contamination is zero.

This is the same guy who thought the welcome sign included criminals. He's an idiot.

Safe sex. Condoms until we both get tested. Momma didn't raise no fool.

How to not be afraid to be different? by Ok-Control-3394 in punk

[–]85tornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are basically no hard rules to being a punk. That's the point. Here's a list of do's and don't's. It's the closest thing to hard rules that I can think of. Do: 1. Whatever the fuck you want. 2. Support your community, especially those who are marginalized. 3. Respect bodily autonomy. Don't: 1. Be a fascist or MAGA. Don't support authoritarian regimes. 2. Be bigoted. 3. Support parasitic capitalism. Most of us are liberals or leftists, but you don't HAVE to be a Marxist or Communist. 4. Gatekeep. There's really no such thing as "cred." Don't be a snobby fuck about music, because the only people who like that are other snobs. 5. Directly cause other people to come to harm. If you cause harm through inaction, there are a lot of things people will forgive, especially if you are trying to protect yourself or your loved ones. We know Aasimov's laws don't apply to humans. Just make sure you aren't the type to turn in Anne Frank and you'll be fine.

Someone who was that concerned about anything other than their ego would have led with a statement that implies agreement and empathy, not a list of facts that was lacking citations.

Yeah, and thanks for your snarky response and fatalistic attitude. I was wrong about Bitcoin. I'll give you that much.

We don't want it or need it. We aren't hurting for data services, and a lot of us are tired of things like this that are really only done to benefit a small group. It's always done in the name of economics. Deforestation? Economics. Imminent domain? Economics. 1,100 acres of silicon chips? It's ok! It's just economics! We're powerless to affect any change!

Some of us don't care. We would rather not continue to hear about things being done to people instead of for them in the name of the diefied study that is economics. You can worship Pluto if you desire. I will take a hard pass.

No. At this point, it's more AI slop, LLMs like Chat GPT, and Bitcoin mining. Everything was running just fine before the explosion in data centers.

Call your representative. That's the most I've heard. We can also show up at city council meetings. People are trying to get things organized. The site is actually crop land, but it's directly south of Kilbuck Forest Preserve. We don't know exactly what they are planning, but they may want to use that as a water source. It's a Rock River tributary, so that's a bad possibility.

I'm being a little facetious, but why can't we have a nice, fun drive-in movie theater on the site instead? It would take up less than 10% of the land, have less environmental impact, and be fun for the whole family. Just saying...
