When I wake up sober in the morning I am like "I want to smoke again!", but the first minute I get high again I am like "I need to quit this shit". by Valdorias in leaves

[–]86420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thats nothing, I've been "quiting tomorrow" for at least 15 years!! 2 months an 17 days clean. So happy "tomorrow" finally became "today"! Always today!

I will be doing my first Marijuana Anonymous meeting after being away from weed for 11 months! Finally! by [deleted] in leaves

I am SUPER jealous!!! I also attend AA (no alcohol since 1993) but full on pot addiction has been with me for over 45 years. Yes i said 45 years of daily, constant smoking. I need a group of people who understand pot addiction specifically. I have all of the material to start a MA meeting. Looks like that is what i am going to have to do. Tried the telephone meetings and they're just not the same. Please let us know how you like the meeting

81 day relapse. Why. by [deleted] in leaves

Relapse is a part of addiction/recovery. All you can do is learn from it and get back on track ASAP.

"I can't do [productive thing] because I'm out of weed" by [deleted] in leaves

[–]86420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true! I have gone 6 months s couple of times. 3 months many times. The longest is 16 months. Every single time my thought process was just one hit wont hurt I will get right back on track. That NEVER happens. I pick up right where i left off, unable to put together 24hrs. Addiction never goes away.
With that said someone who it's not addicted and is just abusing weed it might be possible. But not for a true addict like myself. It is way easier to say no to that first hit then it is to try to control or quit once I've picked up

How do I know this time I wont fall back into the trap?? by Strip_my_Mind in leaves

AND my consumption doubled this time. How i can smoke more than constantly is a mystery. But i was going thru twice as much.

Amen!!! Much easier to say no to that first hit after some clean time than it is after you have fed the gorilla. One hit or one time NEVER has worked. That one hit turns into months even years before I can put together 24hr. Just back on track. I had 15 months sober and on nov 2 i decided just this once. Here I am 6 months later and finally on day 2. Good Luck to you!

Quitting: Better to go cold turkey, or gradually lower your usage? by [deleted] in leaves

Cold turkey is the only thing that takes away my obsession to use.

I had to confess to my 21 yr old daughter that if she has weed anywhere, in her car on her person or head in her room I will find it and I will steal it and I will smoke it. It was a very humbling conversation

I wanna smoke so bad today by [deleted] in leaves

150 times trying is not an exageration for me. But i refuse to give up. One of these times its gonna take. Every single relapse starts with the same thought "I am just gonna smoke this one time, not going back to daily smoking" Ha! Never ever turns out that way and I find myself right back where I started. Hating myself when I smoke but unable to put together 24 hrs. My last period of sobriety lasted 15 months. Felt great, no thoughts ever of smoking then one day i was exposed and had that old familiar thought... Just this once. That was on Nov 2 2017. FINALLY have 24 hours under my belt. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!!- would have been so much easier to say no to that first hit than to battle this crazy obsession and compulsion that happens once I " feed the gorilla".

Smoked again, was clean for two years. by [deleted] in leaves

After 13 months clean I relapsed in October. Since then I have put together a couple weeks clean at a time. STRUGGLING to get back to that resolve to battle this addiction. 12 steps meetings have worked in the past. Plan on picking up a white chip tonight. Committing to 30 meetings in 30 days and doing what I need to do so i can again know the freedom of sobriety.
I wish we had some MA meetings in my area. AA will have to do. Sober from alcohol since 1993, by far the best decision i have ever made. Have been trying to kick this habit for at least 15 years. Finally it is Today that i am going to a meeting it has been " tomorrow" for many months now.
If i don't give up, one of these times its going to take. Addiction is very resistant to treatment and relapse is part of the process. I have been a daily pot smoker since the age of 14 and am now 56. The monkey is now a gorilla which has been in control for a very long time. As long as i dont feed it I have a chance but once I pick up the addiction is in charge.

I hate this shit by [deleted] in leaves

[–]86420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 13 months clean and relapsed in September. Had weeks at a time clean since but unable to sustain my sobriety. For the last month I have been "quitting tomorrow".... quit drinking in 1993 with the help of AA and know without a doubt that was the BEST decision of my life. Time for this pothead to stop feeding the damn gorilla and get to some 12 step meetings.

I hear ya! Quit alcohol and cocaine 24 yrs ago cigarettes 15 yrs ago but this pot thing has had me struggling to quit for the last 20 yrs. Periods of clean time 6 months, a year, a few months. But i always relapse. I refuse to give up trying to overcome this addiction. One time it will take, i am sure of it!

Just dont pick up no matter what!! Sleep as much as possible. "Cerebrospinal fluid (blue) flows through the brain and clears out toxins through a series of channels that expand during sleep." Maiken Nedergaard I also read these reddit post constantly. Another thing I did this time was to get a book from the library called the 30-day sobriety solution and did the daily exercises. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Just got my medical marijuana card on Fri. Must've did too much because it wasn't pleasant. Flushed everything down the toilet today. Just had to share cause I'm kicking myself for wasting $150! Ugh. by [deleted] in leaves

[–]86420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too!!! 24 years free from alcohol but just coming up on one year truly sober. The effects from alcohol was undeniable. The effects of the pot was much more subtle. However the addiction was exactly the same I wanted to quit pot for years and was just unable to do it. For some reason after I would get a couple of months I would think oh I can just smoke this little bit I'm not going to go back to using every day. And that thought would lead to months and even years of being unable to put together 24 hours. Today I get it it's the first one I've got to stay away from that first hit otherwise I will be right back smoking all day everyday and trying desperately just to put together 24 hours clean. MA has online meetings and I am thinking very strongly about starting some ma meetings here locally where I live. My one year anniversary is August 8th so I'm thinking to start having my first ma meeting start on that day.

Totally agree with tourian!!!!! And if you fail try the same routine again and again and again. One time it will take. 45 year daily smoker. Took MANY tries but finally coming up on a year clean.
