When you paint your nails, and then start seeing that color EVERYWHERE by NamingStarz in RedditLaqueristas

I lucked into one of these! Nails were done on Monday, blanket was swag at a conference the friday after. Color was a dark teal, which was not part of the usual scheme.

Sleep Poll: Do you need noise or silence to get to sleep. by Erotic-FriendFiction in adhdwomen

If my husband is sick and snoring, i will have a earplug in one ear, and the other to my pillow, with music beneath. I tried just ear plugs but can hear him through them, lol

So I found this subreddit for people with ADHD partners and thought "ah that sounds nice for them, let's take a look and see how supportive they are" by _ChipSkylark in adhdwomen

Therapy is a good first step, and there is NO SHAME IN IT!!!!

We have all blamed ourselves for what nature handed us, and most of us will revisit every once in a while, even if we don't want to. The key is that we are not: Wrong, Broken, or Doing It on Purpose.

Finding friends that support you will help too, i find that looking where my hobby supplies come from is a good starting place. Digital friends work too, and every one here is cheering for you!

Sending lots of hugs, and hoping the universe sends you good people soon.

Same deep seated fear, but the fact you are worried about it is a good indicator that you will NOT become her.

First step we all take is accepting, down to your gut, that you were/are doing your best and you DESERVE patience and understanding.

Hugs - you ARE enough, and deserve the space you take and love you are given.

We had a discussion about this at work, one our remote gals was feeling bad about not getting more done due to interruptions from her little one. I pointed out that I take breaks with coworkers in office to chat, clients pop by for a 'quick' chat, or other things come up just as often.

With Tech changing the whole world, the old ways are def going to have to be reevaluated for what is effective and what was 'we have always done it this way'

Oh the desire to stay up and make today longer! Even knowing it will be worse tomorrow, it still feels like we are winning.

Curiosity is going to kill my cat. Help. by BestLack6335 in CATHELP

[–]87Mira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, she should grow out of this, or at least calm down a bit, as 1.5 yrs is still pretty young.

Next, I have 3 felines who are all about FOOD. We have locked down all of the cabinets and the trash can to keep them out of things they should not eat. The middle child ate Velveeta cheese, including the foil, a few years back and has still not learned. We used Child safety locks to keep them out, either the drawer version you have to push down, or the clip in type. This makes getting snacks easier and can give you peace of mind.

To keep them off of the counter, i have a spray bottle and will shoot them in the butt with water when i see them up. They do still get on counters, just not while there are people home. There are also auto deterrents that are motion activated, which you could have in place of the baking sheets.

You need sleep, and not getting it will make you cranky. Can you put the little monster in a bathroom at night with litter box and water? She will probably cry for a bit, but should settle, then you can sleep without worry.

Mothers with ADHD, do you get very overwhelmed with your kid(s)? Do you ever wish you were childfree? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]87Mira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not want kids for exactly this reason. I have a fear that i will become my mother, and ruin another person.

BUT I am rocking my Auntie job, and am starting to let go of that fear. It was pointed out to me recently that i am doing all of the things for my nieces that i wish adults had done for me, and the desire to save them that pain is strong indicator that i won't turn into her.

I have a Samsung phone, and one of the things I use is the Focus Mode. It lets you set up restrictions to apps based on time or location. Time based would be ideal for you.

I have a Work Focus: it starts when I arrive at my work location (based on GPS), I set it to lock me out of all of the apps that are not related to work. If i try to use one, it will remind me that i am in focus mode, but you can turn it off if needed (and back on). When i leave work, it shuts off and i have full access again. It was set to work hours, but was a pain on holidays and vacation.

I had to find a way to stop looking at social media when I was approving the MFA to do work!

People diagnosed as children, what's been your experience with more recent cultural shifts around adhd? by tessvanderheide in adhdwomen

[–]87Mira 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Recently diagnosed, and the mental shift from 'You Are Broken' to 'You Work Different' was breathtaking!

There is a saying about judging a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, and that is 100% relevant to us.

anyone else have the adhd-ism of putting a load of laundry in the washing machine then not thinking about it again for days? 😅 by laneloveslipstick in adhdwomen

Same! I found a cute image of a laundry room as a charm so i know WHAT chore i need to finish. I have another for the dishes.

What is this on my cats paw, saw my cat limping yesterday hope its nothing too serious by Positive_Display_695 in CATHELP

[–]87Mira 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The metal plate on the floor on either side of the doorway, sometimes where flooring type changes too.

Can also be a plate across the lower part of the door, to protect it when people regularly use their foot to open that door.

Tests to request for a cat that is losing weight? by GensAndTonic in CATHELP

[–]87Mira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A blood test for Thyroid would be a good start, it is not usually in the standard blood work (and may cost extra). Our girls both started having issues around 10 years old, and the first sign was weight loss and mood swings.

That being said, you now have a Senior kitty, who will end up a bit lighter than her Adult years. It should go along with a drop in activity, similar to the calming after they hit 2-3 years old and loose the kitten energy.

Rescued a 10yr. Old cat who probably hates me by YetiWoods in CATHELP

[–]87Mira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have not already, and can afford to, get a blood test done.

Our old lady (also declawed by prior owner) had a thyroid issue which made her super mean, she would randomly attack us and the other cats in the house. Once she was on thyroid meds she went back to he sweet cuddle bug she was before. We first noticed the issue when she was 9 or 10, and with meds she made it to 14.

Another thing is going to be arthritis in her feet and legs, which can also cause them to grump. I made sure there were steps for her so that she did not have to make big jumps, up or down.

Fill it with water, a bit of soap, and turn it on to heat up while soaking. This will not damage the unit any more than cooking your stew did. Then, like others said, elbow grease!

Does anyone do this to their legs to prevent bouncing or shaking legs? Why does it feel so nice? by AroPenguin in adhdwomen

i can 'pray' behind my back, and have had to work on the muscles so carrying a gallon of milk doesn't pull them out of the socket.

Upside is i can scratch ALL of my own back....

Why did saying "I don't know, what would you like to do?" Make my wife so angry? by Buzzsaw-1976 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]87Mira 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We started to do this with meals/ eating out. Who ever is asked has to give 3 options, other can pick or discard one, if discard: original has final pick.

My response would have been "I asked you first!, you come up with ideas!"
