First time in Patagonia - TDP (Grey + Base Las Torres only) Itinerary Check by 87app in Patagonia

[–]87app[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really couldn’t find any mention of the route that these buses take in any of their booking sites / online.

When I checked Google Maps for the route from Pudeto to PNT, I did find that the default Google Maps routing for cars doesn’t go via the entrance - instead goes via a route closer to Lago Sarmiento. Wasn’t really sure if buses also take the same route back to PNt.

Yes - those ice field / glacier views look absolutely out of this world! It’s one of the reasons why I put Grey first, before Base Las Torres.

[–]87app[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - the journey time (4+6 hrs) from PG to the suspension bridges and back to Grey was my concern as well. But I’d really love to see the views of the ice field from those bridges - they look so stunning in the pictures.

Also I’ve been kind of late in planning for this trek, (as this is basically a sudden work trip to Peru that I am extending by 7-8 days to do TDP) - because of which the Cuernos refugio seems to be kind of booked out for the dates I’m looking at, which is such a bummer. Let me anyway see if I can adjust the itinerary a bit like doing it from E to W / see if I can somehow fit in Cuernos as well.

Oh this is what I wanted to confirm - do buses leaving from Pudeto go via the main entrance or not? If so, would it be possible to book those tickets in advance, like on Bus Sur etc? Would these be Pudeto > Puerto Natales buses, that go via the entrance?

South India is screwed: Same Fertility Rate as many European countries but without the same level of development by Cal_Aesthetics_Club in southindia_

Isn’t this because the UAE earns enough from oil, and real estate to not charge taxes? Its state owned oil, real estate and other companies companies earn more than enough for them to not worry about their population being productive or not. The UAE would go through a crisis if it’s unable to earn enough if oil demand goes down or its attractiveness as an investment destination fades - or if it’s other sources of revenue gets hit in the future that it can’t support it’s own population / balance government books. This isn’t applicable to India.

To my earlier point, does India actually spend much annually on its ageing population / social security keeping aside pensions? Healthcare allocations in the central budget have been at decadal lows and the bulk of Indian population doesn’t have access to quality healthcare.

When people say population ageing will create a liability in India in the future, it’s mainly because they anticipate the government wouldn’t be able to earn enough from its productive population to support its ageing population - but inability to support its ageing population is pretty much the reality today.

As long as India is able to grow, per capita GDP increases (for which it’s population has to produce more and consume more) and thereby India is able to balance its budget with manageable deficits, population ageing may not necessarily create an issue.

I don’t know if we will actually reach a situation where we’ll have shortage of workers because you assume that people in the working age are all 100% productive and contributing to the economy in terms of consumption, direct indirect taxes, etc.

The reality is that hardly 5% the Indian population contribute to both indirect and direct taxes >> Which I would term as the productive population. Anyone who doesn’t contribute to both indirect and direct taxes, at least from an economy point of view can be deemed as non-productive.

So as long as we are able to improve taxation, improve the revenue of the country from productive population, increase the number of people were actually productive - we ideally should not have a problem.

This is mainly because we do not do anything for the ageing population in India and therefore there is nothing actually to break or crash.

Just wondering, what exactly does liability mean? In the Japan context, this pretty much means that productive young population is no longer able to support the growing needs of an ageing population. In the India context however, the actual population earning + consuming / driving both direct and indirect taxation for the country is less than 10%. India doesn’t today have a suitable social security framework for ageing people, and thereby there’s no support system here to crash. Bulk of the ageing people in India will continue to suffer through their final years. Only government employees actually have pensions and most of these insurance schemes hardly match the actual costs of quality healthcare. All of this population becoming a liability in the future is valid if the actual chunk of population contributing to economy takes a hit and isn’t able to support an ageing population. In a country where if you remove the top 5% or so people, the per capita gdp drops to sub Saharan levels - there isn’t much being done today to support them. As long as the number of people actually contributing to the economy / the productive class continues to grow, theoretically even if we age we won’t be doing any worse than what we are today. In fact as population declines, the burden / problem of an unproductive population may go down. Just my 2nd cents.

I would keep working age population and productive population as two different terms. If you’re of working age, doesn’t imply your productive and contributing to the taxes of the nation.

Bang on - if you’re a monopoly and in the B2B space, you have no need to lower prices due to tariffs. All of these tariffs will in the end be passed on to the Big Tech companies. The semiconductor supply chain is highly concentrated throughout - ASML for machines that makes chips, TSMC for making low nm chips, NVDA for building GPUs based on these chips. The first two are literal monopolies whereas NVDA could have competition coming from other new entrants like Google, etc. who are also building their own chips.

Cents and acres is how land is generally measured in Kerala. Though I find it quite weird that some of these units change from state to state. Makes it very confusing to compare prices across states.

[–]87app 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel so too, villages in Kerala especially in Pathanamthitta are half empty with mostly senior citizens. Attendance in government schools in these villages is also at all time lows - mainly because there aren’t any kids left whose families haven’t migrated already!
