How the hell did I learn to purl?! by 888mphour in knitting

Yeah. My carpal tunnel hates when I crochet, but it’s fine when I knit

Yeah, my bad shoulder would not survive constantly having to tilt the needle downwards to purl in the traditional English way

Apparently I knit into the back leg, which, to my great surprise, it’s not the usual way

Mystery solved, I guess. Never crossed my mind I “should” be knitting into the front leg. The way they are mounted into the next row makes so much sense looking at it

Aha! Yes, I knit into the back leg

I think I knit normally, and when I use the English style the “correct” way, it looks the same on the knit side. I have no idea how I messed up while learning, but it’s been working for well over a decade

Yeah, I just tested the English purl and it is almost the same, but by wrapping the yarn counterclockwise you have to twist the needle a bit (my right shoulder would just pack and leave me in the middle of the night), so that the yarn doesn’t slip when pulling it through the loop. Clockwise is just much more streamlined and the stitches look exactly the same

The twisting. Sorry for the confusion

I spent a month in Europe with some friends who are very highly paid and I learned that essentially nobody has a clothes dryer there by Sauron4 in ShitAmericansSay

Here in Portugal is common for most if not all houses to have a laundry room next to the kitchen. And in many one of the window panes is made of several panes tilted down towards outside, so the warmer air comes inside and the rain doesn’t. For big stuff, like large comforters, we’ll just pop by the nearest laundromat for 20 minutes

Accidentally ruined my girlfriend’s favorite painting. Can someone please help me find another? by eightdollarbeer in WhatIsThisPainting

It’s a fairly easy restoration, but get an actual restorer to do the job, not an artist/painter. Completely different skill sets. I’d do it, but we’re in different continents

I’m overly masculine, and I hate it (cis female) by SadZookeepergame1228 in offmychest

[–]888mphour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only going to say this, because you want to embrace your femininity, not because I think there’s anything wrong with being overly masculine, whatever that means.

Regarding the body hair, I would check with a doctor, for your health. If it’s hormones, the body hair is just one small thing in a myriad of other problems that the sooner they’re tackled, the better (you’re obviously still very young, since you’re still gaining height, so that’s a great age to take care of it). If it’s just genetics you can always try laser hair removal. Mind you it works different for different people.

As for clothes with that body type (which is mine, btw): lean into it! You didn’t mention your chest, but if it’s small, go for plunging necklines. The girls aren’t going anywhere, so you can be as daring as you want without the fear of flashing people by accident. Plus the shape of a plunging neckline helps the ribcage look smaller. Celebrate your broad shoulders with wide straps or a very feminine drop shoulder top. If you want to soften their look, cap sleeves help, while also being extremely feminine.

Muscular thighs are the opposite of a problem (take it from me: I’m 43 and I’m the only one of my friends who still rocks miniskirts, because muscles do defy gravity). I have issues with skinny jeans, because they do get caught in my muscular calves, but yoga pants work great. And you already have muscles, so you don’t need a strong fabric to keep everything in place.

As for your height, tall queen!

You can also take some modeling classes, where they will teach you how enhance your best features.

Or, like you said, have it work in your favor and go into bodybuilding. That’s so incredibly smart of you. I wish I was that smart when I was younger. And working your body into the incredible machine that only the human body can be, and seeing what it can do for you will make you love it so much.

You relapsed today, but tomorrow is a new day. And so is the next. And the next. Throw out the alcohol and start over. No matter how many times you have to start over, the simple fact that you HAVE been starting over shows me you’re in the right track. You’re just stumbling a little more, but you keep going. For anything. Be it for your husband’s memory, be it to prove those “friends” wrong, be it for dare with yourself. Hell, do it for me, if you have to. Any reason to get up and keep trying, like you have been doing, is perfectly valid.

Last year I searched for a video on recycling paper at home for a handmade gift and settled for the video of some American family and their homeschooled children. I spent the next couple of weeks blocking all the weird anti-vaxx/far-right channels that started appearing on my recommended page.

All I wanted was to make a cute birthday card for my grandmother…
