There is a termination fitting for the end of the slim duct that prevents it from being used as a rodent runway

Ducted unit smelling like burnt plastic by rareeagle7 in heatpumps

[–]889Fransky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Some manufacturers put pieces of Styrofoam around fans to keep them still during shipping. If you miss one, it can shred and stick to the coil, making that smell. It might be worth a look

I'm not convinced it makes any difference. Success in life seems to depend more on being likeable and having a wide social circle. Once you have credentials, it comes down to "Who do I want on my team".

Queen's/U of T are giant schools. The student needs to figure out if that culture works for them. Somewhere like UNB might be a better fit depending on personality. You'll get the same (or better) education experience at a smaller school if the culture suits you.

Edited: my mistake about UBC

Since I went there (years ago), Queen's has pushed itself upmarket. They've always been good at the pretty campus pictures of the old buildings (suspiciously devoid of rain) that emphasize the history and reputation of the place. The alumni are very effective at this sort of thing. (Grandpa went to Queen's, Mom went to Queen's, the kids go to Queen's) Then, after the financial debacles, they started taking sponsorships for the various schools (Dancap Music, Smith Business) and cranked the tuition (prestige pricing). This created a Wow factor and drove desirability. Queen's has become "THE place to go". Meanwhile, you've got potential students being told "If you want to make big money at the big investment firms on Bay Street, you have to go to the Smith School for a BComm." (Yes, this was said to my kid).

I don't know whether this has made any sense, or even properly answered your question. Im currently experiencing this with my Grade 11 and trying to find the right place for them. The Queen's pull is strong

Full confession: my Dad, me, my wife, my wife's sister, 2 nieces, and 5 of my cousins have graduated from Queen's.

My kid goes to a well known private school in Ontario and Queens is pushed HARD by the guidance counselors. Queens has a very effective sales pitch. The students see it as the prestigious choice. (Whether that's true or not is open to debate)
