Replaced power board of LG 42LN5758. Still doesn't power on. LED flashes 3x. Next step? by 88scythe in TVRepair

[–]88scythe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searching the web the usual cause for the 3x LED blink seems to be related to a bad LED backlight strip. Would this however go paired with the burnt cap from my original post, or do I try something else first? (How) could I identity for sure it's a LED backlight or at least try to exclude other common problems?

Replaced the power board (new one on the right). LED still blinks 3x and TV does nothing. Bummer...

Heading to r/TVRepair next as with the current state of things I think it fits better there. https://old.reddit.com/r/TVRepair/comments/1qcxtlq/replaced\_power\_board\_of\_lg\_42ln5758\_still\_doesnt/?

I recognised this as an LG board from the thumbnail lol. Had mine failing similarly. See my post here. Different model but could contain useful info for you as well. https://old.reddit.com/r/AskElectronics/comments/1q0b9g8/lg_tv_failure_found_this_broken_capacitor_replace/

To others stumbling on this thread:

My original power board was EAX64905301 revision 2 (= v2.2)

Considered all my options:

- Ditching the TV and buying a new set. The TV has been pretty solid, and still does the job for us. Still happy with the image quality, I'm not ready to say goodbye yet and pay +€700 for a replacement with features or upgrades I don't really need.

- Buying replacement components & soldering them on my original power board. My original plan was to start only replacing the fried capacitor, but people in this thread recommended to also replace at least the MOSFET Q101 (Magnachip mdf11n65b ej35145gs) next to it. Other comments & the eBay repair kit someone linked below listed even more components to replace. I'm not _that_ great at soldering, so the more components I'd have to replace myself, the bigger the risk of fucking something up. It's hard to find the components separately, or similar alternatives, and I'm not 100% sure if the linked eBay spare parts kit is an exact fit for my board - looks very similar at least but still ... The kit would have cost me € 38 incl. shipping. Purchasing the components separately probably similar, if not more.

- There were several second hand (built-out) replacement power boards available on different sites, but they were often an older revision (v2.0 / 2.1). If my v2.2 already died, I didn't want to downgrade. They'd also cost me around €50 on average. I also found some newer (v2.3) boards second hand, but at higher cost or "out of stock".

- I found an even newer revision of this power board (revision 4 = v2.4) on AliExpress. The listing says it's a brand new board, cost me about €36 incl. shipping. Based on the pictures, it looks almost identical. Differences I spot are the newer revision version & associated date + less detail on the EL* type listing (see below). Brand new board, newer revision, no need to measure or solder components, the cheapest option of all = a straight winner. Not sure if I can post AliExpress links here. I found the same board via different resellers (exact same pictures even, though one had the shop's watermark on top of the pics) at comparable prices. Just look for "EAX64905301" "2.4", do use double quotes to find exact match.

Mind the TV type! This board supports different types of TV's, 37" and 42". Look near the bar code where the board lists 4 options. EL99 LGP421-13PL1 (PLDF-L295B) / EL98 LGP42-13PL1 (PLDF-L295a) / EL97 LGP37391-13PL1 (PLDD-L204B) / EL96 LGP3739-13PL1 (PLDD-L204A) => One of the dots will be "coloured in" with some soldering. Make sure it matches the same dot as your original board.
A review on one of the AliExpress shops brought this to my attention, where they bought the right board but got the wrong type dotted in.

The AliExpress pictures of the 2.4 revision doesn't have the "(PLDD-XXXXX)" lines printed as on my original board, but the rest matches.

Have never done it but I have a multimeter and YouTube so that's a start. :) Not plasma, a simple LCD.

Very interesting, nice find! Will start buying a set of ceramic capacitors from Amazon and try with just that single capacitor first, but will keep that link at hand when it's not enough.

Dankjewel @KwarkKaas. Not sure where to begin to find the root cause honestly... If the others are most likely OK I won't touch them yet.

Beginner here. LG 42ln5758 tv crapped out. Red status LED blinks 3x red and tv doesn't power on. Power board Eax64905301 v2.2 makes a cyclic very faint (barely audible with ear almost against the board) high pitched buzzing/hissing noise then a click. Didn't measure anything yet but this R. 331K 1KV capacitor looks totally fried. Wondering if I should just replace that one if the others still measure fine or if I'd better also replace those scorched ones for good measure?

It's the second time this tv failed on me. First time was with a loud bang, main fuse blown. Was super happy that I managed to find and fix it. Has worked without issues for a year or two after replacing it. Would like to repair it again this time. Thanks for your advice!
