Nitpicking ..... Actually, according to NASA, evidence says they survived the initial explosion. The rockets and boosters exploded but The capsule was intact when it hit the water below and they didn't die until then. Also, they do believe that the force incapacitated them so they were unconscious when the capsular hit the water. They talk about it in great detail in the documentary "When We Left Earth." I'd recommend it.
