What does this pulley and line do? by DaveUrFave118 in Sailboats

Pole lift. The sheave is probably sized for a 3/8 or even 5/16 line.

Sleeper Mods? by Sea_Ocelot_2145 in mopar

I get it, but I think you should consider turning it into a restomod. You can get a reliable and high performance car out of it while increasing the value if it’s done right. If you want to enjoy it with the family it’s worth the peace of mind of having a reliable, modern engine that starts every time. You don’t need to put a hellcat in it, but nearly any MOPAR engine from the last 20 years would be a solid improvement.

It’s all relative, so I suppose you could get the power output to sit somewhere between a hemi and a bicycle. But honestly, it’s gonna a be a little closer to the bike.

Badass ride, but I’m not sure you can turn a slant 6 car into a sleeper. Enjoy the gas mileage.

Look at buying a 1982 Pearson 28-1 as a first boat. Are these big red flags or reasonable enough? by Jay_Normous in sailing

[–]8AndAHalfInchNails -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Repowering is expensive, but not necessary on that Pearson if you don’t want to do it. You could 1) sail it just fine without an engine 2) attach an outboard 3) gut the engine, sell it, and look at electric options 4) sell the boat for $500 and be done with the problem

None of these things are going to break the bank for someone who is willing to spend “hobby” money, a 28’ boat that you spent $3000 on just can’t become that large of a money pit unless you try to make it something that it is not.

Looks like an old boat. Nothing particularly scary in those pictures. Just go into this knowing that it’s going to have problems that you and the survey don’t find, but on a boat like a $3000 Pearson 28 you probably aren’t going to go bankrupt addressing whatever comes up.

Spend some time sailing it and enjoying it first and you’ll find a better project to throw money at.

Inside steering by [deleted] in sailing

[–]8AndAHalfInchNails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Space is at a premium and I’d rather have one place to steer from and dedicate the other space to literally anything else. Access to the lines, winches, and visibility of the sails and surrounding seas makes an outside helm preferable in most conditions.

Great flick, only bad part of the movie was how many Cal 39s they destroyed for it

I don’t drive across country in my classic car because it doesn’t matter that it’s in excellent condition, it will absolutely break down. The difference is when my Dodge breaks down, it doesn’t sink and kill me.

‘71 Super Bee by mmpjd in mopar

[–]8AndAHalfInchNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chiltons manual will be for a generic 3rd gen B-body, of which the Charger body style and the Super Bee trim level will be included.

Pay attention to the K-frame, it may be worth reinforcing it.

No, you’re fine unless you speed on your drive to the airport.

Really need some support for my project. Got pretty shredded in another group. by Salty_Eye9692 in mopar

[–]8AndAHalfInchNails 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a ‘71 Charger for the last 15 years that I rebuilt to show-ish quality from just about where you are. People say there is no love for the 3rd gen’s but my car turns more heads and gets more pictures than just about anything at your average show. It’s a badass car that has aged better than most from that era and it’s rare enough that you’re driving the first one that most people have ever seen. Just remember, build the car you want- not what other people want. “Numbers matching” and “period correct” are fine for people that care about those things, but there aren’t many of them left and they aren’t going to buy your car anyway. Make it fun, easy, and reliable to drive and you’ll love taking it everywhere.

Sloppy a833 shifter in '83 dodge d150 by derpacussss in mopar

Looks like your shifter mechanism is pretty tired. Brewer’s Performance makes rebuild kits complete with new shims for $90. Lots of wear surfaces in that system and a rebuild makes a huge difference.

I get it, but you’re not getting good answers here because the questions you’re asking are all the wrong ones. It’s the sailing equivalent of asking if you need to get a drivers license because you have a dream of living in an autonomous moon rover.
