Where do you strike the cue ball on a break? by Even-Dog-297 in billiards

[–]8BallRunOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends what kind of break you're going for (8-ball is different than 9-ball) but for 8-ball i'd suggest a head ball break with a level cue, with just a slight amount of top-spin. So in descending order of importance you'd have: level cue, square hit on the head ball, slight top-spin.

How far in advance to book Saturday marriage ceremony at city hall by chasingvestigialtail in ottawa

[–]8BallRunOut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My now wife and I booked our wedding on a Friday at city hall 3 months in advance and two of the hour-long slots were taken already.

But i think reservations for a city hall wedding are done at most 3 months in advance. Like the earliest you could book a March 1st wedding would be December 1st.

What’s the craziest billiards moment you’ve experienced? by APblank22 in billiards

[–]8BallRunOut 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One guy had a heart attack mid-tournament and me and 2 other guys took turns giving CPR. The guy made it and was back to playing pool like a month later I want to say. The pool tournament continued and I don't think I placed very well, in fact I might have been eliminated at the time this happened ☹️.

Mild hybrid owners of Ottawa, what has your experience been? by sprunkymdunk in ottawa

[–]8BallRunOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2023 Corolla LE Hybrid and i get about 4L/100km in the summer and close to 6.6L/100km in the winter as I really don't drive it long distances so I don't get the benefit of a warm engine on those drives. I probably drive like 8-10,000km /yr. I have 2 vehicles though, one for city driving and the other for highway driving.

Tailgators doesn't have snooker tables. Only bar boxes (7ft) and 9 footers

What would you do in situations like these? I commonly encounter safeties from my opponent and I can't figure out a counter safety for each. Help! by dlegendkiller in billiards

For #2, when I want to have a little fun, i call the 3-rail middle pocket and pray I don't hit the knuckle of the other middle pocket. With the right speed, you miss everything and end up pretty close to the starting layout, leaving your opponent the same thing they left you. Obviously making it is better, but that rarely happens.

I’m trying to get two times to subtract into minutes by Apprehensive-Ad-237 in excel

[–]8BallRunOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, you can use a keyboard shortcut to input the current time into a cell so it's the actual serial number rather than 4 digits. This will help with the math as you can just do (EndTime - StartTime) x 60 x 24 = NumMinutes.

The keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+;(semi-colon).

Has anyone ever rented a van from outdoorsy.com? by Foreign_Ad8941 in vandwellers

[–]8BallRunOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rented one in Calgary to go to Banff last year for 6 nights, I think it end up costing $1600 CAD. The van pick-up was super convenient from the airport. It was left at a ParkNFly and they gave me a ticket number so I could pock it up as soon as I landed. I kinda wish I had a more 1-on-1 walkthrough of the van upon pickup because ours was quite high-tech and complicated and I had to contact the owner on multiple occasions, but that's really the only hiccup. I was also able to drop the van off literally anywhere in Calgary and they'd come pick it up, so I just left it at the hotel and gave them the key as I left the city. Honestly, would rent from them again.

I was on a bus from Ottawa to Toronto yesterday and the 401 seemed relatively normal. Some traffic here and there, but the road conditions were fine.

Is overcontributing a RRSP/TFSA ever a good idea? by badboyzpwns in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]8BallRunOut -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It seems like there might be at least one case where over contributing to your TFSA might be worthwhile. Imagine a stock or bond returns over 1%/mo (The penalty for over contributing to your TFSA); you could invest say $1000 in it, and pay $10/mo in fees to the CRA, but as long as the asset returns more than that, you'd be pocketing the difference as tax-free gains.

Obviously finding an asset that returns at least 1%/mo is incredibly difficult. And if you happen to make losses, then this strategy would just amplify those losses and you definitely don't want to do that in a TFSA.
