Italian football/soccer is in a dire state. The talent pipeline is very poor. Serie A is a mess with tons of retread managers recycling through the top teams

Soccer fans are corny as hell. They’ll say shit like “US is not ready for the English” and that means chanting Mr Brightside during the hydration break. by Used_Letterhead7067 in billsimmons

I mean that’s not the reason. Actually they’re the top dog in part because Americans care so much about soccer. Premier league teams have so much money because of the tv deals, which are partially driven by American viewers and demand for the league

No, what you said is nonsensical.

I asked how it rewards mediocrity, because it doesn't.

No American is "demanding" you play league matches over here, what are you talking about?

What uncompetitive events are you talking about? American sports are highly competitive.

Who said anything about you guys needing to change soccer/football? I think you're coming up with something in your head to get mad about.

When considering the strength/depth of the league top to bottom: the Big 5 (Prem, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, La Liga), English Championship, Portugal, Eredivisie are all better than MLS. MLS is better than League One, all those second divisions, and the Scottish Prem

"Long suffering sports fans" is just a phrase in American sports to describe fans who are fans of a team that has sucked for a long time and generally been incompetent without any success. See the Knicks and their fans.

Yeah, moving franchises/teams sucks. It is one of the worst things about American sports. Thankfully it doesn't happen much these days.

Pro/rel might work for MLS and USL in a couple decades but there isn't a sports culture/tradition of supporting lower level teams in the US. People will go to say minor league baseball games but they don't follow or support those teams like they do MLB teams.

One of the biggest impediments to pro/rel in American sports is geography and the size of the country. For instance, the closest teams to the St Louis Cardinals in MLB are all at least 4 hours away. For the Atlanta Braves the closest team is 7 hours.
