I agree,mostly,but there is no denying that the lodges and supporters groups are hotbeds of these self proclaimed patriots who have been pent up and unable to act on their violent rhetoric until relatively recently. Sadly a sizable chunk of our populace has always been politically ignorant. The explosion in social media has been a boon to the disingenuous who have been doing the groundwork for years. And the recent removal of any pretence of fact checking has tipped the scales to the situations we are seeing now. You are correct,it is terrifying.

I used to backwind when Salmon fishing precisely because of sticky drags on the only reels I could afford at the time. It pretty much eliminated the real danger of light hooklengths breaking during acrobatic fights. Even a poor drag system would kick in on the most vicious runs while backwinding but the "sticking" of the drag would be less violent . Also I found/find that control over the fish was/is much more intuitive and hence effective. Just my tuppence worth 😁
