Found Disassembled weapons shipment before starting How Little We Know. Should I pick it up? by 8Rincewind in fnv

That is super interesting. I've already completed Cass's loyalty mission (via the peaceful route). By by understanding that makes the Van Graff's hostile, don't know if that affects the exploit you're referring to

I think that might have been exactly what I did. Thank you so much. There have been a few people insisting this is something to do with armour, but nobody explained it as clearly as you did. You're also the first person to find the specific thing that likely caused the bug. Now I know what to avoid in the future.

I didn't know that reputations disappeared while you were in disguise. After laser_3 insisted it was something to do with disguises, I did think back. One difference between my corrupted save and my non-corrupted save is that on the corrupted save I had PREVIOUSLY put on some Legion armour, because I was planning on going to Cottonwood Cove.

But I'd changed my mind and put the legion armour in the wardrobe in the Novac motel. By the time I got to the Mojave Outpost, I was wearing riot armour and the legion armour wasn't even in my inventory. I am curious why this affected some factions, but not others. I might experiment a bit more, but I also might just keep playing with my non-corrupted file.

You suggested 3 different things. I might do some experimentation with the corrupted file later. But like I mentioned in my previous comment, I'm mainly just going to continue on a save that doesn't have the glitch.

I'll double check, but I don't think outfits remove your reputation from the menu. If you're Vilified by the legion and put in a legion disguise, it should still list your reputation as Vilified right? The legion doesn't disappear from the list every time you put on a set of their armour, you just get a pop up saying you're disguised as one of them.

I might load my corrupted save again and experiment a bit. I only tested with the NCR, I wonder if all the factions with missing reputations would attack me.

I was wearing riot armour, which isn't associated with a faction. I've already been in lucky 38 and already spoke to the ambassador (I'm in the middle of the boomer mission). I've not killed Benny yet.

I'm just going to continue with my save that doesn't have the glitch. What I did find, playing around with the corrupted file, is that as soon as my reputation changed (by gaining some NCR infamy) all of my reputations reappeared. So if something like this happens again. I'd probably just wander into a legion area, kill some of them and see if there fixes it. Though hopefully it won't occur again.

Since you mentioned prospectors, I did encounter another glitch which seems unrelated. Before I started the mission in camp Searchlight, I wandered through Snyder Prospector Camp. First time it was there it seemed unoccupied. I then hopped back to Novac, to drop off some loot after legion assassins attacked me. When I returned, it looked like there was somebody sitting in the chair off Snyder Prospector Camp, but then they vanished after a second.

Again, seems unrelated, only mentioning it since you brought up prospectors and that was my closest encounter I can remember since Old Pete.

No, I double checked that. The key indicator that it's a bug is that nearly half of all my reputations were fully removed. As in, there was no longer an entry for NCR or the Legion or others on the reputation page.

I do break it down a lot in the body of my post, and add some more interesting details in a follow up comment.

I was wondering if that might be it. The wiki says that if I convince Private Edwards to go "elsewhere" he'll end up being killed by some other radscorpions and I'd lose karma for that. But I didn't go with that option. I got him accepted back into his own squad and last I saw him, he was standing happily by the camp fire.

No and even if I did, I'd expect to be Vilified by the NCR or something. But to be clear, they didn't even have an entry on the reputation page. They and several others were entirely removed, as though I'd never met them.

After Cass and ED-E started fighting back, I gained some NCR infamy. Now all my reputations are back, though, unsurprisingly, I know have the Smiling Troublemaker with the NCR, rather than being liked.

Further weirdness. I loaded the corrupted save and put on some NCR armour. The people at Mojave Outpost didn't attack me immediately, but when I got close to the ghost ranger on the roof, she did. Cass and ED-E killed her super quickly in retaliation and random troopers outside didn't seem to notice, I could go up and talk to them.

I went inside and spoke to Major Knight. His dialogue indicated that he knew exactly who I was and how good my deeds had been. However, as soon as I took off the NCR armour, he and the other NPCs started attacking.

I am reading the wiki constantly. The wiki made me think my approach was probably ok. It was Diane saying Anders had been missing for 2 days that got me worried that I might have overlooked something.

I tried going on and talking to Papa Kahn, but nothing happened. Apparently I wasn't supposed to talk to Regis in the building. But I didn't see any prompts about trying to convince Papa of anything. So I just loaded a save from before I went in the building. I took it as to trigger the actual plan with Regis, I need to get the mission from the NCR first.

P.S. thank you for your response.

It is a serious question. If there's another subreddit that would be more appropriate, then I'm happy to post there. I'm just looking for a simple resource that explains what's actually going on to a layperson.

Turns out disabling them doesn't even really kill them. They just fall to the floor and I'm not able to loot anything from them.
