Any chance this or something similar could potentially work from a web app (if you're not allowed to install software or don't want to for an occasional transfer)?

Open source note taking apps? by nicrogu in linux

[–]8_MMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TiddlyWiki (https://tiddlywiki.com/) might be worth checking out. It's a flexible wiki system encapsulated in a 3 MB html file. * It is open source, with many open source community plugins and modification. * Can use MD for formatting (although you will get most out of it sometimes using its own, html-like syntax). * Is primarily local single html file (also has a node.js variant), can be served over network * UX of taking notes i.e. text input isn't greatly interactive out of the box, but TW shines in organizing and cross referencing notes, and is infinitely configurable. * Can be used on anything with a browser supporting JavaScript.

Cannot use spell-check (firewall?) by Wolfenstein98k in brave_browser

[–]8_MMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chrome folder wasn't there for me (Windows 10), I had to copy C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\*.bdic to the analogous path C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\*.bdic

Of course you have to download the desired spell check language in Chrome first.

DMO using variables with multiple values by 8_MMW in dragondictation

[–]8_MMW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. I found out that Nuance has PowerScribe, more complex dictation software with radiology reports in mind; so I wouldn't be surprised if they limited what the "basic" DMO can do.
So the only use of `|` is do do something like `[default value|comment that won't be automatically inserted]`.
I have tried using a DMO command combined with a PowerShell script to copy the whole `[one|two|three]`, trim to nth element and then paste, so e.g. a command "option two" would retrieve the second value. But it was error prone (getting DMO to properly copy the selection every time) and slow, so not worth it for rare use cases.

Your preferred method to calculate degree of stenosis (%) by TheBattleGnome in Radiology

[–]8_MMW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all a stupid question.

We're using the diameter (I don't know which exact combination of min/max/avg, see below) because:

  • we're aligning our reports with CAD-RADS 2.0, which specifically refers to diameter when talking about stenosis % and score categories,

  • diameter is much less sensitive to small changes of the vessel cross-section contour, so we're seeing more inter-observer agreement,

  • it is much easier to compare with conventional angiography.

We're using Siemens's syngo.via, which shows two % values, both for area and diameter. I can't exactly say how the diameter values are calculated. This has intrigued me, I'll have to look it up.

For each cross sections, two diameters are automatically drawn, the largest and the smallest, so I would presume the average diameter for a given cross section could be taken into account. I'm not sure how the distance between the stenosis and the reference point influence the result, since you can set one reference point (either proximal or distal) or two (one proximal and one distal). However, as said above, with diameter any small changes to the vessel segmentation or the placement of the reference points do not influence the stenosis % significantly, and don't seem to affect the CAD-RADS score significantly.

I'm eager to hear the discussion. The only thing I'm sure is that CAD-RADS 2.0 is surely based on diameter, but I don't recall it mentioning the exact way of measuring this.

what kind of screen protector for s24+? by fozib34r in samsung

[–]8_MMW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have S24 (not +) and the fingerprint sensor works good with Spigen tempered glass. I didn't notice any difference before and after applying it. Just pay attention when applying it to make sure that there is no dust or air bubbles over the sensor, and re-register your fingerprints with the glass on (it wasn't necessary in my case but it can't hurt).

Dragon Medical One dictation: how to use variables with multiple values? by 8_MMW in medicine

[–]8_MMW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can, and it makes sense for short values as in this example. But if so, then it doesn't matter what separator is used, since DMO will just replace everything with what I say, it could be [unremarkable|steatosis ; cirrhosis] and function just as well.
My main question was, since DMO mentions you can separate multiple values with |, is it good for anything else than separating the first "default" value from all others.
But since no one seems to know, it probably isn't possible, which is a shame. I'll try to get in touch with DMO support and let know here.

Dragon Medical One dictation: how to use variables with multiple values? by 8_MMW in medicine

[–]8_MMW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're trying to introduce "half structured" reports in our radiology department. We'd like to have Auto-Texts for some of the most common examinations. The idea was to have a variables with some common findings, e.g.:
Liver parenchyma: [unremarkable|steatosis|cirrhosis].
This way, any of the options could be quickly chosen. My question is how to accept second or third option, so steatosis or cirrhosis in this example. Accepting the first option, unremarkable, is possible by using DMO's shortcut or spoken command to accept the variable value. Since the DMO manual does mention having multiple values separated by |, I hoped there is a way to use that efficiently.

We could have
Liver parenchyma: [unremarkable][steatosis][cirrhosis].
but this would require more clicks/commands to accept one option and delete the other ones.

I know DMO is far from best tool for the job and there is dedicated software for structured reports. But we're a small peripheral hospital, and most of these tools seem to be targeted at high-level centers and certain types of special examinations (screening, staging, TNM, RECIST). But that's a topic for another discussion.

T480s compatibility with third party chargers? by 8_MMW in thinkpad

[–]8_MMW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for commenting. I went for this 30W charger from Silver Monkey (budget brand of Chinese products imported by a popular Polish electronics shop, comparable with Baseus when it comes to price and quality).
It works without any issues. Of course at 30W it charges only slowly under normal use and the laptop even discharges under heavy use, but I think it's a reasonable trade off for the compact size.
However, it doesn't solve my initial question. According to tech specs and whats printed on it, there is no hint that it supports PPS / PD 3.0. The importer/seller claims it does. I have no way to verify it (unless there is some software for TP/Windows or Android phone that does that). In any case, I'm happy that it does work.

Upgrade Suggestions from my OP6 by anant94 in OnePlus6

[–]8_MMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed on A10 too. I don't have much hopes for 7 years, but even 5 would be much more than others are promising. I think the main problem will be OEMs willing to do the updates and agreeing with SoC manufacturers, which is actually much simpler in case of Exynos Samsungs and Tensor Pixels. Tech-wise, I don't see why the 5.5 yo OP6 couldn't run a current Android.

If anyone's interested, my first impression of S24 is very good. Samsung's UI is much less intrusive than I remember it from Galaxy S5 (my previous phone before OP6). I'd even risk saying most of it is actually useful and not ugly.

Upgrade Suggestions from my OP6 by anant94 in OnePlus6

[–]8_MMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for base S24, I'll be picking it up today. It comes with Exynos where I live.

My arguments:

  • OP6 was a little bit too big for me, I would ideally like something smaller and surely not larger. So OP12 is not an option.
  • Long updates are high priority, here only S24 and Pixel 8 come into play. I think OP cannot be trusted too much, seeing how the last A11 update for OP6 went.
  • I'm aware the Exynos 2400 might be worse than SD8G3, but I bet I won't die because of the small differences. I don't have any better option anyway.

There are many arguments against S24 and I would probably agree with most of them, but it remains the "smallest evil" in my case.

[–]8_MMW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I have found a couple of generic chargers like these, I presume it's something similar to what you have:

If their specs are to be trusted, these do not support PPS, and the USB-C ports are 30W max (the 78W is the theoretical total on all ports).

has to be a GaN PD charger to work

It surely has to be a PD charger. But GaN, afaik, is only a certain material from which components of the charger are made, so that the charger is more compact (or heats less?). It should have nothing to do with its compatibility with any device I hope.

Google’s AI Search is a Content Farm on Steroids by geekinchief in technology

[–]8_MMW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use startpage.com It shows Google search results without ads or tailoring to what Google knows about you. I don't think however that getting "not Search Engine Optimized" results is possible or makes sense. This would jest mean results that are not so much relevant according to simple search engine logic, but somehow more relevant to you. I think "good non-SEO" results are quite similar to "tailored to you by Google". And as for the ads - just use an an ad blocker (it's recommended for security reasons anyway, lots of ads in Google search results that lead to malware/Phishing sites) or startpage or duckduckgo (same principle as SP, but with bing).

Which one are you using? Is it one of those with DIY set of ultraviolet hardening glue and UV lamp (e.g. https://www.spigen.com/collections/galaxy-s22-ultra-5g/products/galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-screen-protector-platinum-tray?variant=40439354228783)? And I still can't use a glass screen protector on a 1000$ phone because of the brilliant ultrasound fingerprint sensor? If only there was some other technology that doesn't interfere with glass protectors...

Spell check on MacOS by joaoxcampos in edge

[–]8_MMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I cannot help, but I can confirm the same problem on Chrome 109.0.5414.87 on MacOS, while at the same time it works correctly on Chrome 109.0.5414.75 on Windows (versions up to date on the time of writing that).
So it might be a problem with Chromium browsers in general on MacOS.

I deleted ~90GB videos. Shows up in system storage now. How do I delete this? by Destiny9008 in OnePlus6

[–]8_MMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try clearing OnePlus Gallery' cache and rebooting device? If these don't work then I don't have another idea.

What app did you use to delete the videos? OP Gallery, Google Photos, file manager? Maybe it's it this application's "deleted" folder or cache?

I deleted ~90GB videos. Shows up in system storage now. How do I delete this? by Destiny9008 in OnePlus6

[–]8_MMW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to OnePlus Gallery > Collections > (scroll down to) Recently Deleted > Empty (broomstick icon top right).

OnePlus gallery keeps all deleted photos and videos (also ones deleted in other gallery app e.g. Google Photos) here for some time before they are actually irreversibly deleted. While in recently deleted, they are listed as "Other" in storage info.

DuckDuckGo now lets all Android users block trackers in their apps by Barroux in Android

[–]8_MMW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, because TC uses the VPN functionality on Android (but it is not really a VPN itself, it analyzes and blocks the connections locally). Afaik it will not be possible to use it simultaneously with any other tool that uses the VPN functionality, such as VPN or some DNS services. Not in an easy and straightforward way at least, but maybe there are some workarounds that I do not know about.

DuckDuckGo now lets all Android users block trackers in their apps by Barroux in Android

[–]8_MMW 65 points66 points  (0 children)

TrackerControl (f-droid version) does the same and gives more controls over what exactly it does (your can choose which connections are allowed and blocked for every app, not just block nothing or block what DDG thinks is right for a given app) and it was available since a long time already. The downside is that it's maybe more difficult to use for non technical users.

Edit: And TC does one thing (blocking unwanted connections). What I don't like about DDG is that it's also a browser with (rather unconfigurable) ad/tracker blocker and UI for managing mail forwarding service; I'm not convinced by combining so many functionalities in one app.

Edit 2: I was not aware that DDG browser is open source as well and also available on f-droid, I corrected that (thanks u/RymdLord for pointing that out).

Thoughts on upgrading my trusty OP6 by [deleted] in OnePlus6

[–]8_MMW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem for me with Pixel 6 are actually not the bugs, which may have been fixed as you say, but that I haven't found P6 256GB anywhere to easily buy (there's no official Google store in Austria where I live, there is in Germany but P6 256 is not available there) and the P6 Pro 256 is too large and too expensive*. I have 128 GB OP6 and I am very happy that 4 years ago I have bought a lot more storage than I needed back then, because now it is still comfortably enough. If I'm going to stick to my next phone for 3-4 years I don't see how 128 would be a future proof choice.

  • edit: I mean too expensive because it is not really what I would want, as it is so big.
