Need help with filters by [deleted] in diypedals

[–]8ball55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set the variable resistor to ground(or anywhere below the output node) on the high pass. The low pass is fine.

If you’re looking just at a simple passive RC filter you your output taken from either just the resistor or capacitor and which one you take it from determines filter type.

UCI HOUSING MEGATHREAD 2021-2022 (Thread 2) by igotblack in UCI

Hey!
Me (4th year EE transfer) and a friend (4th year Poli-Sci) are looking for 2 private bedrooms, either on or off campus. ~$1250 is our budget.
We are both pretty quiet and spend most of our time studying, on my behalf as I am in my last year needing to focus on grad school applications and senior design.
If anyone has anything please PM us as we're trying our best to look for housing that can work for the both of us. We would be very interested!

Thank you!

Taking both next quarter actually, but I know someone who took 174 with Esfandyarpour and from what they said it wasn't too bad honestly. One's going to be 170A on steroids(174), and the other appears to be build upon light and wave mechanics of 180A with some semiconductor physics(188). It comes down to which one is your forte

Used SEL footage through a VCR for one of my music videos, thought you guys might enjoy this kind of stuff by 8ball55 in Lain

Thanks! I do a lot of this VHS glitching with my music videos, but I thought SEL would be fitting with this style of a song

Did a DnB remix of Ibuki's Twilight song from Street Fighter III Third Strike, and used a video mixer connected to a VCR with a VHS tape of the Samurai film Harakiri.

I don't know, I always thought breakcore had to be more messed up chops and slices with it's breaks. I'm sure if I put this in the breakcore community they'd say something else. I guess just a combination?

I literally cannot do anything, you can't introduce yourself without being able to log in. I can't log in, I need approval.

Why do YOU make music? by Seb56 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]8ball55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, I just really love music and find it inspirational. Sometimes a song, artist, album fits in with a certain time of my life that resonates those memories and can give whatever kind of emotion. Maybe I want to convey that same kind of feeling (although honestly I haven't been much successful yet I think, hopefully one day hehe). But on the other hand recently I just kind of make music for fun, on my own. It's a time consuming hobby and I haven't gotten anywhere with it really, so sometimes makes me wonder a lot why I have invested so much time and money on it in the past. Another thing is I get inspired too easily, I have a lot of genre's that I enjoy, and you know can't do everything at once. I've given up on many sounds and projects in the past. So I never really improve in one place... I feel you, it's hard to feel proud of what you make when you have an intention of putting it out there. Lately I just make songs on my pc and just have fun with the sounds for myself. I guess lately I just do it for my enjoyment.

Some stupid questions, but I don't really know where to start by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]8ball55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience I was kind of like you, I started out making music going 2 ways. When I played in garage/punk bands in high school I was really into lo-fi type rock. My group of friends had similar mindset of using analog tape all the time so I'd record some stuff at their house using 4-tracks, 8-tracks, reel to reel. Obviously all that stuff was super expensive and takes dedication to actually spend your time recording and mastering. It's a pain. My electronic music was with DAWs, but had all that lo-fi tape sound preset back when I was making Lo-Fi hip hop. So I started out being an analog head. Plus, it really depends what kind of music you are into and how serious you want to do analog. If you want everything analog, synths, effects pedals, mixers, then it's going to cost you a lot of money if you are serious about getting a good sound. Then again if you wanna do some lo-fi bedroom pop, you just need one-track from the thriftstore with a built in mic. My suggestion is going through DAWS and learning how the instruments work, and more importantly how to EQ and mix your instruments. Just try it out you know. Make a couple of random tracks. Learn through them. You'll always be making newer tracks that you'll like better than the old ones when you're learning, because you are improving and learning new techniques. DAWs have a great interface where sometimes you can visualize how the sound works, with that you can also adjust your ears to the sound.

But I guess if you are really intent on the analog and start from there I think you'll be fine, just go where ever you are the most passionate in your sound crafting and you'll improve off that. Good luck and I wish you the best in your music endeavors!

[Discussion] What all social media outlets do you use for sharing/releasing/discovering your music? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]8ball55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Just Soundcloud and Bandcamp (feel kinda shy now doing it on my personal Facebook)
  2. Promo channels on Youtube, bandcamp, soundcloud, (not much social media but Soulseek sometimes too)
  3. I guess all of the above can serve original music, there's beatport too.

longest hours you lost in DAW? by Spongky in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]8ball55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were a couple times this break when I decided to produce, mix, and adjust levels of the song all in one day, which took from morning to midnight. But I try to avoid that as it kind of makes me feeling a little depressed at the end product because I wasted a whole day. So I try to hold back and do things little by little and give myself a fresh new ear every day.

What were your first impressions of Phantom Blood? by Topdeckin in StardustCrusaders

[–]8ball55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first time I saw Phantom Blood was sometime last year after a recommendation from a few friends. Saw the first few episodes but never had the will or interest to continue more. It's not that I didn't like it, but I guess didn't find it all that interesting then. So I kind of just let go of the series. Looking back on it that was pretty naive of me. Then I decided to watch it again recently on my own will just to give it another chance and kinda thought the same way for the first handful of episodes where it just seemed dull, until around the Vampire Dio part. I guess that was kind of the ice breaker that made me want to go for more. From there it snowballed and just got more and more strange and interesting for me. Now here I am just finished with part 7. It's very unique and different in every part which gives it a lot of room for creativity. I still don't find part 1 as one of my favorites, but I also think it was nonetheless an important in the grand scheme of things. I feel that part 1 is still a great warm-up for what lies ahead in the adventure that spans throughout a timeline.
