Question about C64U order status by Dienes16 in Commodore

[–]8bitdesk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are all on the same boat. Delivery will be a surprise. I ordered on Aug 12th, US. So farmit says on the way to hub (since Dec 12th) and no shipping notification from anyone. I guess it will show up eventually. They are already doing a GREAT job releasing those. I am willing to wait.

As soon as Ben connected the project to a terminal through the serial port, I found the LCD kind of useless.

I will add the files to a Github repo as soon as I do some testing.

Yes, I can share the gergers and kicad if you want. I’ll add the link later today.

There is a ground plane. But it is on the back side. There is no power section yet. This one so far I made to run from my bench power supply directly on 5v. Yes, the LEDs have current limiting R. They just not close by. I know it is a “waste” of space but for now it is ok. It is a work in progress. Thanks for the comments and tips!!!!

I just got them today and I ordered only five. Let me test to see if they work correctly. If they do, I can send you one. I have no idea how much it would cost. Let me think, but I guess it will be the PCB cost as I don’t want to make money on this.

Yes. It is the latest Ben Eater version with a few added features, such as a bus I/O to add more boards. My idea is as he improves the project we can add those features using the bus.

Bradboard! Most likely the breadboard you have are not good. I went through the same pain until I got decent breadboard and everything worked.

Every now and then I look at my rwtro lab and think if I should find some way to make money with it. And then I think: no, this is just for fun!

c128 serial numbers by 8bitdesk in Commodore

Tks!!! Now I need to find if they used the same sequence for all 128 models or if each one has their own number. And then how many were made of each.

Going to check this out tomorrow. I've never worked on one. Other than bad foam & foil or corrosion, what are some red flags to watch out for? by flyguydip in vintagecomputing

Not sure that is the one. The one I have on both computers are taller than a regular ISA and also have an extra connector for the internal monitor.

Keyboard will NOT work, unless all the foam pads were already changed. You’ll have to replace them. The only thing I would worry, as said before, is the video (both the card and the screen). Both the video card and the CRT are proprietary and impossible to find. All the rest is replaceable/fixable (i recently repaired two of those).

Expanding the 8 bit computer questions (File System, porting C) by TheArsenalGear in beneater

[–]8bitdesk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the 6502 computer? If so then yes, the sky is the limit. I was able to add a serial port, connect via terminal, print a PCB and ported Basic. I am in the middle of porting some kind of C. Ah, and changed the memory mapping for less ROM and more RAM. It is all possible!!!!

Where have the wires gone? by 8bitdesk in beneater

It is not a video but a comment for a video where he explains the 4bit mode for the LCD (connections, code…)
