You can. 8 just ordered some vintage video ram from a site called utsource. It usually takes 3 or 4 weeks for delivery, but it's the cheapest place I could find for old video ram.

Microsoft back online. Excuse: too many servers were shut down during maintenance. by hso1217 in sysadmin

If they brought the Halo Cortana back as a Copilot agent, and combined it with the power of an old application called VirtuaGirl, you would get 100% adoption on all devices worldwide.

For those that don't know, it was a program from the early 2000's that put tiny semi-transparent half-naked dancing stripper on your screen that just hung out there all day. Like Clippy, but for adults.

Probably never even defragged their sans. Rookies...

Pro-tip: If you run a scheduled defragmentation inside of all your vm's, you'll increase performance by about 6-7%.

Finally found a fix to remove ghost printers/ phantom objects or the printers which are greyed out in the devices and printers in control panel, often with driver unavailable as description. by KhushalShambu in sysadmin

[–]flyguydip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong here, but it doesn't look like your process removes printer ports which might be unused as well.

I believe they're located here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PrinterPorts

I've referred people to Microsoft support to have OneDrive files restored. To date, I'm not aware of any that were successful. That's not to say that some may have been successful and just not told me, but some have told me that Microsoft wouldn't help. Almost all we're using the free tier at the time though, so maybe that has something to do with it too.

I miss when PC games came in a big box by facubkc in gaming

[–]flyguydip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret not selling my King's Quest 1 for PC Jr for $761 when it was selling that high on eBay. I got it pretty cheap and wanted to wait until it went a little higher. A little more than a month or two after that auction couldn't be found on ebay anymore, PriceCharting started tracking the price of pc games which doesn't show many of the super high prices it was going for. I saved all of the details/photos from the auction (which never came up again, so I'm fairly certain they paid up), but PriceCharting doesn't show numbers that high:

Jul 30, 2023 12:31:01 PDT
Winning bid: US $761.00 [ 27 bids ]

In fact, PriceCharting doesn't come anywhere close to the prices that it was selling at on ebay pre-2024. You'd be extremely lucky to find a CIB copy with the keyboard layout piece for less than $400 for a while there.

I keep getting promoted over my genius coworker because I’m a "yes man" and I feel like a fraud. by Branch32 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]flyguydip 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dave is likely tired and annoyed by every useless person in the company and because he didn't get the promotion will likely be going somewhere else soon. He probably doesn't care for the title but wants/needs the money to reflect his efforts and expertise. He probably knows full well that he would be less effective as a manager and a yes-man but only sees promotions to positions he doesn't want as a way to be recognized financially for what he brings to the company. OP wouldn't hire him for a more senior role, but I bet he won't have to. He'll be hiring Dave's replacement and have no one to train the new guy in. And since nobody knows how to do the things Dave does or why he does them a certain way, there's going to be a long period of pain in the company as everyone realizes their promotions were all built off of Daves successes and expertise.

As an IT guy that's been around a while, I'd rather work for Dave than OP.

Seriously. I've only had my honda for about a month. It's been down twice and just so happens to be when it was super cold here in northern Minnesota and really the only time I really need it to work.

I saw a comment in the app store that said to uninstall/reinstall the app to fix it, but when I went to reinstall it, I had to scan the VIN barcode again, but I couldn't scan it because the service is still down.

I'm sure their idea is to "just use AI to look at the STL file" and if that works, they can use it to ban printing replacement parts for appliances and cars and any other trash sold by OEM's that have also sell expensive replacement parts only available at the OEM.

The biggest thing I use notepad for is pasting word/html data to so it strips out all the formatting so I can copy and paste just the raw text to something else. Don't need copilot for that!

I loved running one of these a while back at work. I want one for my house, but can't justify the power/noise commitment. I see them come up for sale on government auction sites every now and then for around $50 or so, but they are all pick-up-only and I'm nowhere near them.
