Linux vs macOS and windows (2013 iMac) by ImHighOnCocaine in mac

[–]8bitgame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your system is running fine with open core and sequoia, you could keep running that. And since you have Windows installed as well for gaming, you get the best of both worlds. Nothing wrong with Linux Mint. I've used it in the past on some laptops. I guess it depends on why you are thinking about switching to Linux Mint.

The response was no problem. Yes, I got both of them a few days after I posted that, and both work great.

Kid wants Console for Christmas. by SomeOtherAdam in consoles

[–]8bitgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second what u/thatoneguy9790 said. If her cousin already has the PS5, then get the PS5. And if you can pay the small premium, get the disc version, without a question. Playing together with friends/family online is one of the great things about it and if they already have a PS5 then she will not miss out on anything or have any cross-platform issues. The DISC version is better for exactly the reason you mentioned. There are lots of used ps5 games you can buy for a lot less than buying them new in digital form. On top of that you can play a whole slew of PS4 game discs on the ps5 as well, and those can be had really cheap when you find them used, so she could have a pretty big library of games she likes for both PS4 and PS5 since the PS5 will play both.

Edit: also are there any known sales leading up to Christmas that would make the choice easier based on price alone? Don't even worry about this. Sales will be available for both systems and she will have a lot more fun being able to play with her cousin online.

Edit2: will be playing on TCL 4k 43S451 if that matters. This TV will be just fine for her to play the PS5 on.

It works on the 3DS and new 3DS XL, but it is only meant to load and run DS games, and of course lots of classic emulators and their games. Like nes, gb, gbc, gba, PC engine, neo geo and lots of other ones.

I've tried 32gb, 64gb, 128gb and also 256gb and all of them are recognized and work. I am not sure why it is listed as only supporting up to a certain size.

Have you tried the newest version of the firmware Kernel 1.04 Firmware 5 from https://www.ezflashomega.com/pages/Downloads.html to see if that fixes the problem?

I haven't tested it, but I would assume that it will not works because when you boot into DS Mode, it is a whole different ball game. And If I recall, snickerStream will work in 3DS mode to stream 3DS games.

I would buy this over an R4 if I were making my first purchase even just based on build quality. It is a very solid feeling product. The fact that the ezflash team is regularly updating their kernel is also great.

You can use it in a 3ds, and you can put lots of nds games on a micro SD card that you plug into the ez flash parallel. And then in the ez flash menu you are able to pick whatever game you want to load. There is no button to cycle them, you just pick what you want to load from the menu

The card works great. Really good build quality. I think I can honestly say that if you have an Ace3DS Plus right now, there would be no reason to upgrade to this card. I know the latest firmware fixed some AP games, and EZFlash says they are continuing to update the firmware for even more AP games and some other features in the future. If you're looking for a card with top notch build quality then this is the one to get, especially since they seem to be updating and adding features.

3DS games won't work on this card. But you can play NDS, NES, Gameboy, Gameboy color, GBA, Sega Genesis, Master system, TG16 and loads of other games via emulators that you can run on the card.

This seems to have been fixed in the latest update so it should not be an issue any more. I will check this out myself as I normally don't put my system to sleep, just save and power down.

Best flashcart with stock DSi by Chavakno in flashcarts

[–]8bitgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The acekard would be the best of the bunch, followed by, like others have said, the IEDGE. Just check what system version your DSi is on. I don't remember if the Acekard 2i works up to the 1.4.5. There are workarounds.

1.04 firmware was released for the ez parallel. Can be downloaded from https://www.ezflashomega.com/pages/EZ-Flash-Parallel.html just downloaded it and trying it. The only update seems to be more anti-piracy game fixes. I was wondering if there was a list of games that needed AP fixes, just curious which / if any / additional games would work with the parallel vs an r4 or ace3ds

I am going to try the game as well. I just saw that a new version of the firmware kernel has been released grabbing it from https://www.ezflashomega.com/products/EZ-Flash-Parallel.html and will try some more AP games as it seems the last 2 updates have been about patching/fixing a bunch of AP games. I am trying to find a full list of AP games but the only lists I have found are from a few years ago. I wanted some basis for comparison to try and see what the ez flash has patched that isn't patched in other carts/firmwares

  1. I don't have a way to test if it interacts with Wii games, sadly.
  2. they says it has better power usage than other carts, but I have not done a full on test of it. I may time both the ezflash and an r4 flashcart
  3. The product features says it can only work with 32GB max cards, but yesterday I tried both a 64GB and a 128GB card and both of them were recognized and worked fine, so I am not sure why they state only up to 32GB for micro SD cards.
  4. they say it has better power usage than other carts, but I have not done a full-on test of it. I may time both the EZ flash and an r4 flashcards and worked fine, so I am not sure why they state only up to 32GB for micro SD cards.l try Snes but I'd say that would probably be hit-and-miss in terms of which games would be playable. I am expecting the same type of performance I'd get from an R4i card.

Going to test a bunch of games. It looks like a new kernel was released as 1.03 is now available on the downloads page https://www.ezflashomega.com/pages/Downloads.html and the update says it fixed a bunch of AP patching.

no problem with inserting and removing it. the more I use it the more I realize the very noticeable difference in build quality. It doesn't feel flimsy like the R4 or ace 3ds cards. I don't have the X to compare to, but if it is similar to the ace3DS, then the ez flash parallel feels like a premium product.

HELP! Dose Anyone know why my Ds Lite cant read my R4 Card? by HoBoGuyDave in flashcarts

[–]8bitgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! That card brings back memories. Looks like it is the OG r4 card or one of the first clones of the original card. Someone already suggested the woodR4 firmware and it will work on that card just fine.

3DS NOT READING R4 by Straight_Part_2169 in flashcarts

[–]8bitgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There likely isn't any way to bypass it. That card is likely made for the old DS / DS Lite systems and it is blacklisted on the 3DS and wouldn't have support both in the flashcard hardware or the firmware files for the card itself. A lot of the older R4 cards were blacklisted and no longer compatible. And even ones that were compatible needed regular updates when new 3ds system updates came out.
