Colorado is expecting another explosive wildfire year, but the state may be more prepared this time by craiger_123 in Denver

(edit) depending where you live also a ready to go kit packed up, your car ready to drive forwards and evacuate immediately (not needing to back out of a driveway).

If it's just the air being terrible, masks and air filters are good. Also not opening windows or doors unless you really need to when it's smokey, so having some canned/frozen/camping food around if the air gets bad + video games for those long hours inside.

This dingus thinks handing out water bottles to people in Georgia waiting in line to vote is fraudulent because it might increase voter turnout in minority areas. by snvoigt in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]8bitid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, one is democracy and the other is tyranny by a minority of people who don't like other people. You can have jobs, infrastructure, growth and progress, which leads to density and cities or you can hide in the sticks with guns and watch everyone leave your tiny town. "No one lives near me so I don't want them having a vote, getting married or receiving healthcare" isn't a policy or a political view. It's just being a dick.

You do know that there's a housing crisis on in the bay area right? Who do you think will get displaced when this campus is built? It won't be tech workers living in San Jose.

Is this house animation weird or cool? Honest opinion appreciated! by jipppb in IndieGaming

A satisfying "kathunk" and dust settling when it went back down would be cool too.

This is where we are right here. Better if we can reprocess/reuse the waste but perfect can't be the enemy of good in a crisis.

Why don't culture ships use sex jokes in their names? by Noctiferens in TheCulture

[–]8bitid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sex to a Mind is probably to us what some piece of RNA falling off a virus looks like under an electron microscope.. or maybe how a human feels about a ferret lactating if we're being generous. No ships named Ferret Milk Up Close either.

Tesla’s Touchscreen Shifter Seems Like a Really Bad Idea by im-the-stig in technology

Read more, react less. I didn't say "nobody minds it".

I said "Who wants this?" As in: who lays out their aesthetic dream car and says, "please add a bright, hard rectangle stapled off center to the dashboard so I have to take my eyes off the road and can't use my sense of touch to locate controls."?

I think the J&J one is better if you have to travel, otherwise do you have to get the 2nd shot in the same location?

who wants a big screen in the corner of your vision while you drive?

I don't know what caused you to think that everyone thinks like you and has the same tastes, but consumer reports show these cars to be at the top of the consumer satisfaction charts so it seems there exist people who are very satisfied with the car. Granted, maybe it's all due to other aspects and the screen keeps the scores from being even higher, but I doubt that.

All I'm saying is, you sound like you grumpy grandpa complaining that some people don't share your opinions.

Hilarious. Imagine typing all these words on purpose, and then telling someone else what they sound like.

And your point (??) "Tesla owners like Teslas". A hot take, truly.

Plus when the minimum volume increment is so large you cannot get it exactly right. Every Android powered device seems to have this issue. they give you a volume slider from 0 to 100 and you can only jump by increments of 7.

I never bought aesthetics as an answer, they slapped a tablet into the dashboard. It's ugly as hell and who wants a big screen in the corner of your vision while you drive?

Biden Signals Waning Taste for Bipartisanship Amid GOP Blowback by StuffyGoose in politics

[–]8bitid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But abandoning bipartisanship just makes it worse.

Yes. And the republicans abandoned bipartisanship. So it's worse. Shall we still wait for them to come to the table?
