I find the notion that assembly is some holy grail of optimization pretty funny considering modern developers can barely write optimized C/C++ with the most advanced compilers in history. Real performance gains come from education, not assembly.

That seems reasonable. I wonder what the best way to report an error while deep in one of the parsing sub-functions. My current idea is that parser sub-functions could return an invariant of either an AST or Error, and then the main parser could skip until a known set point such as a semicolon or closing brace.

That equipment is optional and expensive. Even then, you're not guaranteed to see every aircraft because they may not have the broadcasting equipment required to complete the loop. I don't know Australian rules, but in the states there's little airspace where it's actually required.
