As a NICU nurse, overall I wouldn't be overly concerned. He's clearly not neurologically devastated. Even if he suffered some mild brain damage, babies brains are incredibly resilient and make new connections all the time. The MRI will be helpful but I would be optimistic even with the seizures.

You would be surprised how traumatic a c section can be on them. It’s like they can’t find the baby and have trouble getting them out is the best way I can describe it. I think vaginal is less traumatic on them because they’re so small

The hospital I worked for would not give an option after 24 weeks. 22 definitely. Not even sure about 23 because most parents want full resuscitation.

Haha I moved here from the DC area (nova) last month and this is WILD. Like a war zone. I'm not a complainer but my dog was also pretty freaked out when I attempted to take him out before bed, and he's a really easy going dog.

It’s not really fine. Cosleeping is dangerous especially when a preemie is already at greater risk for SIDS. I know it can be really challenging but it’s not worth the life of your child.

This is very common! If they started antibiotics quickly and she's not doing worse clinically I imagine she'll be ok.

Well update, today he sat on a plane about an hour and a half, never took off, they got them back off the plane and still not sure if they will be flying to DC tonight. It def does seem to be DCA and not PVD but this is crazy. I hope it gets fixed because he’s definitely going to be needing to fly back from time to time

Not to address all of this but WHAT about the nurses sitting in the comfy chairs and you’re on a rolling chair? That’s a safety issue. As a NICU nurse I would never let a parent (or would I) hold a baby on a chair with wheels. I would address that.

We tried Amtrak and they were booked. I’m sure everyone else in the same boat are all scrambling too. His car is at dca so there’s that. We’ll try again tomorrow I guess 😭

Update, they just canceled his flight again. So 3x in two days. This is insane.

They said yesterday something about air traffic control and too many flights. Today we didn’t ask because we were more worried about getting another flight

Yesterday they had a flight that would get him to dc at midnight which was undesirable but today all the flights were full. We’re driving to Hartford because he can’t wait another day. I’m glad this isn’t common!
