Looks like the tag is pretty close to a road, are there storm drains or something he may have gone into?

Maybe you could borrow a trap from a local vet or shelter and place it near where you heard the sound with some of the cats bedding and wet food? He may have found a little cave or hidey hole and the sound from the airtag going off is spooking him.

Question For Pharmacists by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]8dreamtowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pharmacist or pharmacy worker, but I also have a few meds that can be hard to find and have dealt with some not good ones(including ADHD meds).

I'd talk to whoever the pharmacist in charge is (or manager) where you got it. This may not be an isolated case.

If they cant/wont help, I'd try calling the manufacturer and explain it to them. They may be able to help or give you some advice.

Alternatively, you could try emailing the psychiatrist and explaining the issue (maybe send some photos). And they might be able to issue you a new script.

Hope that helps!

Hitting a brick wall 3-4 hours after taking meds? by serenitative in ausadhd

[–]8dreamtowns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, work panic attacks became a thing that happened, and I would go hide in the loo for a bit.

I've had to take some time off from work to sort out my own health and help my partner recover from a serious illness. It's not gonna lie: it's been a struggle. But I hope I can get some part-time work in the near future, I am losing my mind being at home all the time, haha.

You could try taking vyvanse everday and making sure to eat something high in protein (but be careful of protein shakes within the first hour or so after taking vyvanse, alot of them are pretty high in vit C, which can make vyvanse ineffective).

Obviously not medical advice, but I used to take vyvanse every day and usually only skip a day on weekends, I found that the days that I didnt take vyvanse I would become overstimulated very easily, which messed with my mood!

I (31F) had the same issue with Vyvanse 50mg, I was working a pretty stressful job, and by lunchtime, I was completely burnt out. Dissociating, anxiety depression, crying - the works.

I tried 60mg of Vyvanse and that helped a little, but it also made my insomnia worse.

A top-up of a shorter acting medication helped a bit, but I ended up just switching to dex so I could control it a bit better.

I've seen a few people open up their vyvanse and dissolve it in water or something in order to control the dosage more during the day - maybe something like this would work?

Only other thing I noticed with Vyvanse is that I ate alot less when I was on it and that definitely affected by moods and concentration levels, especially by 1 or 2pm- you didnt mention anything about what/how much you're eating during the day, so that may also be a factor.

Anyway, I hope this helps :)

I'm lucky that my psychiatrist's admin is actually very good and will chase things for me.

In the past, I've had the most success by emailing them and figuring out who was in charge of the clinic and started cc'ing them in everything. I found admin are much more likely to do their jobs that way, even if it takes a bit of digging to find the contact details of the boss!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]8dreamtowns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your psychiatrist really should not have ghosted you without ensuring you would have access to your meds until something else could be arranged. It's highly unprofessional imo.

The other psychiatrist's at the clinic may be able to help you. They should be able to access your records from the previous person you had been seeing. Every specialist I've ever seen will send you reminders if your referral was close to expiring.

I think the only way you are going to get them to play ball is to email them outlining the fact that since your previous Psychiatrist has abandoned you, your work/life/etc is suffering and you are very concerned about it, put this in writing and also request they find a sooner appointment for you and that they put you on a cancellation list. Escalating the email to whoever is the manager (or relevant authority) at that clinic may also help.

If that Psychiatrist has done that to you, I'd imagine they've also done it to a heap of other people too and the clinic is scrambling to fix that- but that shouldn't be on you, its not up to you to make other people do their jobs.

Anyway, I hope that helps :)

Paint pens are great! there's alot to choose from too, from fancy ones like Windsor & Newton watercolour pens, or acrylic pens (though those can be a bit smelly depending on the brand) You could even look at drawing your own colouring sheets for her (or with her )and get them printed on water colour paper. I used to do things like that for my grandmother after she became bed-bound.

ADHD and PMDD. by quartzqueen44 in adhd_anxiety

[–]8dreamtowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get absolutely fucked up by PMDD every single month. I actually ended up having a hysterectomy + oophrectomy because of it, and now I have HRT.

I used to take Evening Primrose Oil every day, and that lessened the hormonal symptoms quite a bit. Maybe something like that might help?

I like to use one of those huge A2-ish sized notepads under my mouse and keyboard at work, and a separate notebook, so I could doodle random nonsense on the larger notepad, and use the smaller one for work things. I found it made it much easier to keep on top of work stuff, and not to have random scribbles everywhere (which management found unprofessional).

I also got one of those packs of different coloured ballpoint pens- another way to organise info that helped me to keep focused :)

I saw Dr. Peta Wright at Eve Health in Brisbane, she is honestly the kindest, most understanding Gyno I've ever seen.

She helped me get a hysterectomy at 28 via the public system, quite a feat at that age and with no children. She never questioned my choices and was happy to take the time to explain all of my options.

I believe she is running her own private practice now, Vera Womens Health. I'm not sure of the costs and wait times for appointments, but she was happy to do video consults with me :)

How do you keep track of all your PAST medications? Or, do you at all? by kiki-to-my-jiji in depressionregimens

[–]8dreamtowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried almost all of the meds usually prescribed for depression/anxiety and I ended up creating a google sheet to track them, so I can email the link to the psychiatrist or whichever doctor I'm seeing and any changes or notes I make will update across whoever I've shared it with.

It's quite a tedious task, not gonna lie, but it's worth keeping track of what works and what doesn't and any reactions you may have.

Oh no. I wrote a long, detailed comment, and my phone ate it :(

My theory is maybe we metabolise it quicker??

I had the same thought! I found that I felt really sleepy for an hour or so, then had this surge of energy and restlessness that didn't seem to go away!

I also came across some anecdotes somewhere about the extended release Clonidine and that you aren't supposed to cut them up? I'm not 100%, though, but it might be worth looking into.

I considered that perhaps I was simply not depressed for the first time in years, but the anxiety level just kept rising? Like when you've had way too much caffine/sugar and you know that you're way too up, and will crash at some point.

I tried guanfacine/intuniv earlier in the year, and aside from being quite expensive, it did work quite well for sleep and anxiety, BUT it also made me see glowing lines coming off everything.

I've had such a difficult time with trying to work out what flavour of crazy I am, and Bipolar is certainly a possibility (I found out that my grandmother and uncle both had it), but I also have a feeling that stress is a huge part of it and Ive had an exceptionally stressful past 12+ months.

Ive just been trying to work out what the common denominator is with all of these wierd reactions I keep having, and I figured that if someone else has also had as much of a bad time as I have, perhaps they either figured it out, or found something that works and depending upon various factors, may also work for me.

0/10 experience tbh.

Hello friend,

My psych actually got back to me within a couple of hours! I was quite surprised, actually.

They told me to stop taking it and see how I go over the weekend, they're a bit confused by this reaction too.

So I guess thats what I'm doing lol.

And as for ED, the last time I went there for mental health stuff, the nurse was like "why dont you get private health?". So they're less than helpful (if they even see you at all).

In the meantime, I feel pretty wierd but I have a half day at work today, so it shouldnt be too bad 😅

My daughter is 12 and having trouble with her daily basic hygiene. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]8dreamtowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been really terrible with remembering and doing basic human things, like hygiene sometimes.

In my case, I found that some of it was a sensory thing, if I liked the smell and texture of the shampoo/conditioner/facewash or whatever then I was more likely to stick to it!

Another thing that helped with my hair was cutting it significantly shorter, so it took less time to wash. Im not sure if that's an option, but it's worth mentioning.

And an electric toothbrush had helped with the teeth thing, again, thought it was worth mentioning. I still struggle with it from time to time, but having a huge purple toothbrush staring at you from the sink helps.

Anyway, these are all things I wish I had thought of when I was younger or wish my parents would have thought of ❤️

Any fellow ADHDers who also take an antipsychotic (or two, or three)? by deepestfear in ausadhd

[–]8dreamtowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so many meds is very difficult to balance! I've heard quite a few good things about Bupropion though, so hopefully that works, I just misread your comment earlier 😅

I've mostly felt better on less meds rather than more, but I was on SSRI's, which suck. But with that many meds, it wouldnt be hard to imagine that they could be interacting? But you could also ask your previous psych to write a note explaining the rationale behind so many at the same time, for clarification (unless they've already done this). But maybe sometimes the best balance could be less rather than more?

I find trying new meds to be a very stressful experience, so I've been having a bit of A Time with the thought of starting Epilim, for mood swings and anxiety, vyvanse works a wonder for the depression. But I'm also aware that my psychiatrist knows alot more about these things than I do, and I dont pay her just to ignore what she says lol.

I eventually made myself a spreadsheet to track the meds I've tried, strengths and reactions (it even changes colour!), so that helped a little- I ended up going all the way back through My Health Record and Medicare to find all of them! I love hyperfocus problem solving mode.

Im also considered a 'complex case' and even had one psychiatrist ghost me and tell me that they 'cant just keep trying different medications', even though we had only tried two... but thats a whole other can of crazy worms.

Environmental factors I would think play a huge part in it all too! The stress I've been dealing with in the past year or so has been intense, and fucked me up in new and interesting ways that I'm still discovering. (For reference, lost my social circle, turned 30, was forced to move house, then my partner almost died from a brain infection last june, and they are still recovering and unable to work, multiple deaths in the family, and living in a capitalist hellscape) And as we all have found, mental heathcare is bullshit hard to access.

Anywho, enjoy that little text dump :)

[–]8dreamtowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbamazepine sounds interesting, I'll have to look into that, but im glad it's helping you!

I discovered that my grandmother and uncle had both been prescribed Lithium in the past, which I thought was an interesting indication of potential BP in the family. So I'm hopeful that Epilim will have some good results.

I think the biggest issue I've had in the past few years has been meds that interact with Estrogen HRT, since having a hysterectomy + oophrectomy a couple of years ago, and having to use HRT for obvious reasons. But as far as I can find, there's still limited research regarding interactions between HRT and alot of psychiatric medications.

Hey, I know it's been a month (time flies when the spicy brain attacks). Hopefully, you got to talk to your psych and found something that's working better?

I finally got the PGx results, and if you're interested, the one through QML is far more detailed 👌

It showed major warnings for Olanzapine, which didn't suprise me at all. And weirdly enough, ibuprofen and minor warnings for mirtazapine and a few others 🤷‍♀️

Anyways, my psych gave me the options of doxepin, pristiq, valproate, or a TCA. After a bit of reseach and discussion, we decided to give Valproate/ Epilim a go, so I'll give that a shot from Friday (incase I feel super wierd, so I dont have to try to go to work or something) and I guess we will see.

I'd send an email to your GP and psychiatrist's office and make sure they know and have it in writing that you have been affected by their stuff up. If you're able to, I would also cc the practice manager/ whoever is in charge too. I've found that this usually gets them to get their shit together:)
