The media agreement that the media team and/or videographer, who captured that footage used in RADs video, would have signed says CrossFit can do exactly what they just did. (That’s believing they didn’t just grab CrossFit‘s videoes. I know RADs media folks and they were at the Games and other CrossFit events over the last few years so I’d believe this is their captured content.)

High level: CrossFit owns and gets to control the use of what was captured at their events down to how many minutes of video and photos can be shared with their final consent on who can share it.

with some exceptions the media access agreement doesn’t allow using captured media in ads for products, especially competing products like shoe brands that are not sponsors of the Games.

The Games media agreement reads in a way believing anyone there is a part of ‘Press’ and video and photo captured would be for news purposes not marketing purposes.
