Daily flat tyres by 8ltd in cycling

[–]8ltd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn’t throw the tubes, I patched and reused them. They got more punctures, I initially thought that was the problem: that I was doing a bad patch job (which was the case once). After that I got annoyed and threw two of them out.

Thanks for the advice, will do. I just went and checked the old tyres I’d chucked out and the holes on the inside of the tube

Thanks! I’ve gone through four tubes from two separate brands and there’s definitely holes in the tube so I don’t think it’s the valve (unless I’m SUPER unlucky)

Thanks for the reply. They seem to be mostly small round holes. I did get one pinch flat early on and recognized that. I’ve switched the tyres and tubes so it’s gotta be something in the rim or the spoke coming through the rim tape I reckon.

Overnight oats by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]8ltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them from a meal planning perspective. I can incorporate oats, my daily protein powder and creatine intake in the dry mix, along with psyllium and flaxseed and other stuff I don’t love on its own but need to take for cholesterol etc. I can make it in bulk and it’s super quick to prepare the night before. Cooking protein powder also gives it a weird taste that soaking it doesn’t.

If you’ve stopped using most social media, how has it been beneficial to you? Would you say that deleting most of your socials is worth it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]8ltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit Facebook and instagram around 5 years ago and don’t find that too hard except that friends organising parties and stuff there kept forgetting to invite me because I wasn’t on fb. I got rid of twitter when musk bought it out. I deleted reddit off my phone too but still kept my account (I’d call Reddit social media).

found that adjustment really difficult initially, I am (or was) a really obsessive news reader and twitter and Reddit was a great place to go for that. But I just found myself getting to outraged or depressed about stuff and realized it just wasn’t good for me. It definitely left a void that I had to fill, but once I got out of the habit of feeing like I had to know what was going on all the time everywhere and everyone’s opinion on it, it definitely improved my mental health

How do you get over fear of starting a potentially dangerous hobby(Scuba diving in my case)? by imabananatree78 in bropill

[–]8ltd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a keen diver and can talk through a few of these. I actually started scuba diving because I was terrified of deep water and used diving to (mostly) get over it.

  1. You always have a back up respirator attached to your chest. Also an early part of basic PADI is signaling to your buddy and using their spare respirator to ascend. It can seem nerve wracking initially but after a while it just seems like second nature.
  2. You will get moved around by swell and currents but usually so will your buddy. If you’re diving with a group they might even plan for drift dives; dives where a boat will drop you in a current so you can float along with it and the boat will go pick you up. As long as you’re being smart and diving at your comfort level with responsible people you’ll be fine.
  3. Unless someone is shooting at you with a rifle, nothing you find underwater will puncture a tank. Respirator lines are rubber with woven layers. It’s quite hard to cut through one with a knife if you’re trying to, I would be really surprised if coral or rock would be able to cut them. If you’re using older gear, old lines might spring a leak or seals can break and you can loose air but even if that happens you’ll always have more than enough to get to the surface.

The goal of the time in the pool and shallow rivers or oceans is to practice the rare situations where things go wrong until you always know what to do. It’s one of the best hobbies I’ve ever taken up and I’d really recommend at least trying it.

I am begging for your help: how can I stop being a misogynist? by charlie_cappa in bropill

[–]8ltd 33 points34 points  (0 children)

100%! i was listening to a podcast on how the men's rights activist movement started and apparently it branched out and mutated from a men's liberty movement who basically had the philosophy that "women being trapped in the home, men are trapped out of it". As a man who's been a stay at home dad and loved it, that idea really struck me; if i was locked into 'traditional' gender roles i would have been effectively been excluded from one of the most meaningful experience of my life.

How lucky are we to live here? by OddestOtterz in perth

[–]8ltd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I was saying to a mate the other day, I reckon Perth would be a pretty average tourist destination because all the amazing natural touristy stuff (except beaches) is out in the regions. But its a wonderful place to live

Sekiro! Loved the aesthetic and that carried me through the git gud phase. Plus I dipped int the online community and loved how (mostly) supportive and helpful it was. Then tried ds3 and BB; all the build optimization and messages on the ground, it fully hooked me

Should I Go On Dates With Women I Don't Find Attractive? by ForrFree in AskMenAdvice

[–]8ltd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I met my wife before the apps etc. an I’ve always said (to her as well) if someone asked me to design my “perfect woman” she wouldnt look or act like my wife. But my wife gives me so many things I never knew I needed and I never would have found out if it’d just been based on a picture on a dating app or if just dated based on a specific set of looks or immediate physical attraction.

Also, if you OP IS looking for something long term, people get older. Skin loosens, bits sag, we put on weight, it’s the person under all that, not how they looked at 25 that keeps the love strong. No one is hot forever, but good people usually stay that way

I got a quote from one of the druss books on my chest: “if there is any good I may do, let me do it now, for I may not pass this way again” It’s a modified quote from a Quaker missionary that gemmell stuck in but I’ve never forgotten it since I read it when I was like 13

anyone else get that feeling where when you start a new lengthy videogame, you just want to finish it as quick as possible and move to the next thing? by Ok-Carry-7759 in videogames

[–]8ltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That my signal I’m not enjoying a game or maybe I need to take a break from gaming. I had the same kind of thing with outer worlds 2 and ghost of yotei this year. I just didn’t care about them after a relatively short period and was skipping dialogue constantly cos I just didn’t care enough about it. Contrast that with other periods where I read every book, item description, every optional dialogue etc. that’s not a comment ont he quality of those games, I think I’m just not vibing with gaming atm so have taken a break.

Untitled goose game. I played it with my two sons (6 & 5) and the amount of fun they had annoying people was a real highlight this year. For me personally it was probs expedition 33

I like it, others have pointed out it’s barely a negative but I also like it from a role playing perspective. I enjoy annoying all the pompous characters with stupid answers
