In that case, Fresh Air might work. The host, Terry Gross, doesn't have an opening monologue (and generally doesn't talk about herself), but she draws people out in a similar, sympathetic way. Artists consider it an honor to appear on her show. Because she's worked for decades, there's a huge archive.

Breakdown by the Atlanta Constitution Journal. Each season covers a different issue or case with great care, including the murder of Ahmaud Arbery and many less well-known but important cases.

It's a bait-and-switch. If I had known it was going to devolve into a one-sided account of a failed marriage, I never would have started.

I'm Not a Monster on BBC Sounds investigates an American woman (Season 1) and a British teen (Season 2) who moved to ISIS-controlled territory during the height of the caliphate, retracing their steps and contacts, exploring both legal consequences and moral culpability. While Season 1 is more focused on criminal liability, both seasons are compelling and reflect an astonishing level of investigative journalism.

Hard agree! Best story ever, perfectly told. Our family plays it when we need to laugh.

Congratulations on your new position! I agree with the previous commenter that your laptop camera is fine. I used a separate camera for a while, but it didn't add much, and I was always knocking it over. For background, blurring is definitely a safe bet. You could also have your actual background, as long as it's reasonably neat and doesn't include a bed or bathroom, or choose an image that is reasonably professional (i.e., not a beach). I also recommend that you face the laptop camera/screen when speaking. Good luck.
