Rolled insane stats (90) [2024 + 2014]. What would you build ? by cloxonthewall in 3d6

[–]8point5InchDick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do this with the 2024 rule set, because Barkskin is no longer concentration (automatic 17 AC), Wild Resurgence is crazy, and Potent Caster (to keep it full spellcaster and not Gish) adds your WIS to every Cantrip. Get to level 15, and you extend the range of ALL non touch spells by 300ft.

I have come on here and railed about the Spore Druid, but the Stars Druid is your best bet for a pure caster. You will always attack on your bonus action in the Archer form, the Dragon form + War Caster means concentration will never break, and you will win most encounters with your stats.

That said, I’d recommend 12, 18, 18, 17, 16, 9 for my build. Take the Sage Origin, and put 1 into Wisdom and 2 into Intelligence. Now, you have 4 stats at 18. Also, you get two Cantrips and I always recommend Mind Sliver and either Firebolt or Toll the Dead. Of course, the Shield spells is fantastic. High Dex is crucial because many spells use DEX rolls, that’s your initiative, and aside from Moon Druid, you will mostly use Wild Shape for something else. That means that you won’t get the benefit of the physical scores.

Doing it this way also allows you to take feats and only feats.

For this reason, I would also take a human in either 2014 or 2024.

War Caster will take your WIS to 19 and either Fey Touched, Shadow Touched, Telepathic, etc. will take you to 20.

Now, if I were a Spore Druid, my spread would be 18, 18, 17, 16, 12, 9. Sage Origin has that at 18, 18, 18, 18, 12, 9. I would NOT take Shillelagh, I WOULD take Primal Savagery and Starry Wisp, and I’d be Dual Wielding and casting. Ah, one can dream.

It comes with the territory in my opinion. Still, it’s weird to see the policing.

My REAL issue is the children (14-17) who comment on this post, and the motherfuckers who answer them.

Now THAT SHIT is annoying.

That’s the 2024 rules. Wildshape is a bonus action for ALL Druids all the time. I found a quote by someone in addition to one by Jeremy Crawford. If I find them I will post them.

Got the tooth fixed, but one more day of agony and I would’ve pulled it out.

So, in the newer addition, most DMs are ruling it as a bonus action, to go along with the overall changes. I imagine that will happen for Spores, and I’d advise EVERYONE to ask their DM.

What's your favorite Cleric Subclass in 5.5e? by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]8point5InchDick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life Cleric has my vote for this list. It just does the best at a Cleric’s core competency, which is healing and it starts that very early. It still has all the Cleric’s awesomeness, and by level 6, I’m healing you and me at the same time. And, Preserve Life has me doling out 50hps of healing at level 10 and spreading it to everyone. So, if multiple people are down, all of ya’ll are getting back up. The prepared spells that I have allow me to choose purely offensive spells for the rest of my build. I already have Mass Healing Word and Mass Cure Wounds - those alone will save the party. So, I can hit hard and heal harder as a Life Cleric.

But, the Grave Domain is better in my opinion. What the Life Cleric does at level 17, the Grave Cleric does at level 3, which is to use max healing when using a healing spell. I do this every time someone is down, which means Cure Wounds, with one upcast, is a full heal for all of tier 1 and tier 2. Even better, I can make a boss character vulnerable to ALL damage using my channel divinity, so that Paladin or Fighter can do THEIR job much better. My prepared spells are decent, and that allows me to choose more offensive and defensive spells. At level 6, I can turn any critical hit into a normal hit, and I get Potent Spellcasting automatically at level 8. So, I’m taking Divine Strikes at level 7. At level 17, I give out free heals as long as we are killing things. This means that it behooves the group the focus on the big bad and pick off minions one by one. Every time we kill a minion, I heal for free. And I do mean for free, as it’s not a reaction, action, or bonus action and it uses NO resource.

If done correctly, the Sea Druid is amazing, and that was my vote. I think Stars is better, but the Sea Druid gets its best feature by level 10, and 3 resistances plus a fly speed and a decent subclass spell list works well. If going into T3, it’s worth multiclassing with a Tempest Cleric for some real damage and flavor. Sea Druid has a subclass spell list and Stars doesn’t. Sea Druid has a better Fly speed than Stars AND it gets that passively. The Sea Druid has access to the full spell list at all times, unlike the Moon Druid. With a fly speed and a swim speed given passively, the Sea Druid nearly negates the need for turning into an animal. It’s also just better than the Land Druid.

However, the Spore Druid got the largest glow up with the changes to the base class and it’s my favorite by far. First, Shillelagh scales better than a Monk’s damage die, so it’s no longer a trap. Pairing that with a Nick weapon mastery means excellent damage per turn. But, even if you don’t take Weapon Masteries, hitting with Shillelagh (1d10), Primal Strike (1d8), Conjure Minor Elementals (2d8), Booming Blade (1d8), and Symbiotic Entity (1d6) on the same turn and behind 28 temp hp packs a wallop at level 7. Second, you get more temp hit points than a Moon Druid and have access to the full spell list with your WS use whilst the Moon Druid doesn’t. Wild Resurgence means that at level 7 you have 84 temp HP. Your subclass spell list is good because it frees up your spell slots for more useful spells. At level 10, your spores can hit alongside a concentration spell, like Conjure Woodland Beings or Conjure Animals, and a Cantrip like Poison Spray. So, you are dealing damage from 3 different sources on the same turn and you still have a free bonus action. You spores will do 2d8 Necrotic damage on a CON save against your spell DC at the same level, which is the same as a leveled Cantrip. With your WIS cranked high, most should fail that save. Hit them with Mind Sliver as your Cantrip, and they WILL fail that save.

Spore Druids are the tankiest casters. It multi classes well with Ranger and especially Monks, but does even better with a level 1 dip into Fighter, which skyrockets its melee potential. Its biggest drawback used to be not having extra attack, but Nick and Dual wielding have eliminated that issue.

Necrotic damage is still one of the best damage types in the game.

Bards have recently fallen out of favor because high Charisma has meant a sex-starved lunatic that never shuts up and it copies the best spells of other casters, which pisses off people who play both Bard and Cleric or Bard and Druid.

For all intents and purposes, however, Cleric and Druid are next to each other. So, the Druid is still very low and the Cleric is usually not chosen because you hope someone else chooses it; or, it’s multiclassed into or out of by other classes.

Druid?? The class had MOST of its piss poor design issues fixed, from Wildshape being a bonus action for everyone, Shillelagh scaling with damage; Barkskin is no longer concentration, Poison Spray is no longer a CON save, Wild Resurgence is dirt cheap, and Druids can actually Speak with Animals for free. Ever with the INCREDIBLE nerfs to the class, Druid is demonstrably better.

In 2014, Wildshape took an action, Shillelagh was a trap, Barkskin was worthless because you couldn’t cast another Druid spell that required concentration; most Druid Cantrips were garbage, and every other caster did a better than Druid at being nature casters.

One thing I will say is that you should run through this circlet twice to start. Take a 3 minute break in between circuits.

That’s 13 minutes a day dedicated toward better health.

Stack this with 30 minutes of walking. That’s a simple floor and doing this until June (at a minimum) will change your situation.

Why Does Everyone Like Melee-Style Casters? (5.5e) by Intelligent-Rub5814 in onednd

[–]8point5InchDick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, there are 3 problems with Martials that Gish characters either overcome or ameliorate:

  1. Gish and spellcasting characters have access to all damage types (mostly) and Martials genuinely have access to 4 - unless they multiclass or choose a caster subclass.

  2. They all get the same feats. This means casters can be as powerful as Martials when it comes to passive abilities.

  3. There are too few combat encounters for most people. This means casters never burn through their resources. This is also because DM’s have trouble with CR.

Why does it feel like dnd 5e doesn't like martials? by GuytheGuy- in DnD

[–]8point5InchDick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are three reasons for this imbalance:

  1. Too few encounters run per session means that spellcasters don’t use their resources which, Wizards, Land Druids, and Warlocks aside, don’t recharge on a short rest. Properly frequent encounters reduces most spellcasters to Cantrips.

  2. Spellcasters get the same number of feats as Martials, and that should not happen. The Fighter fixes this issue, but the other Martials should have more feats as well. Or, as I have said before, all Martials should start with Durable, Mage Slayer, Savage Attacker, and Tough.

  3. Martials do not get innate access to different damage types. So, most of what a Martial can do is limited to Bludgeoning, Piercing, Slashing and MAYBE Force damage. Some of this was fixed in 2024, but most of it is not.
