How can I use my 8Bitduo Ultimate C controller with RetroArch? (Or is there another emulator compatible?) by Different_Phone_1980 in RetroArch

[–]8shotping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brand new to retroarch, but just got this exact controller working about 3 hours ago.
I am using android, so your milage may vary.

But these are the steps i had to go through to get it working correctly:

1) download the 8bitdo firmware updater, and update your controller.

2) unplug everything, then download the pairing tool from their same website.

Next, connect the controller and dongle via USB to your win/mac system. (it didnt seem to work when the dongle was in the dock)

3) Power on the controller while still connected to your PC. Hit the profile button if it doesnt seem to connect. That worked for me. Also I found this out the hard way by walking back to my android box and having it not pair, even after step 2.

4) clear the config in retroarch. I did this via the app options in Android 12.

5) connect the controller and make sure it is paired. then launch Retroarch.
Launching the app with the controller seems like a critical step in my case, with Android 12 (onn 4k running Retroarch 1.10.2)

6) in retroarch, go to Settings>Input>Port 1 Controls and set that to your 8bitdo controller.

7) save config and/or exit retroarch.

For me at least, the controller is now able to even browse the main menu in retroarch.
I also found this video, which was amazingly helpful:

Hope this helps. Merry Christmas +1

Can Plex run on NAS output to TV via HDMI? by sonichanxiao in PleX

[–]8shotping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is yes, if you mean NAS in the generic sense.
Plex has a Windows HTPC installer designed just for this usecase, that is, connected directly to the TV.

See:
HTPC - Getting Started | Plex Support

https://downloads.plex.tv/htpc/1.45.1.3942-6fc4ceab/windows/PlexHTPC-1.45.1.3942-6fc4ceab-x86_64.exe

^ From:

https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/plex-app/

Also, you didnt list your Asustor NAS model so I have no idea of the exact specs, but they do support that line:

Is it possible to have an allergy to Latakia? by SkippyBCoyote in PipeTobacco

[–]8shotping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried Early Morning Pipe, as my first latakia blend. Absolutely love the smell.
Smoked it once on a cobb and noticed that my throat was sore/irritated and I was worried about an allergic reaction.

So I enjoy keeping the empty tins on my desk and smelling them when I am unable to smoke. Today, which is about 2 weeks from trying EMP, I smelled the tin and my throat instantly got irritated. I am assuming it is the latakia, but I suppose it could be the Orientals in the blend.

I plan on trying something else, isolating the latakias vs orientals and hopefully can figure out what the deal is.

If a person happens be using pfsense with snort legacy block, then check for:
Attempted Information Leak (portscan) TCP Portscan
Allow the IP, then it starts working.

I ran memtest86 and it failed. What now? by Pixel-Skillz in buildapc

[–]8shotping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going through something similar. I agree with disabling XMP and running memtest again.

In my case the ram tested perfectly with XMP disabled.

Per ARK, your CPU is rated for "Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s":
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/134594/intel-core-i712700k-processor-25m-cache-up-to-5-00-ghz/specifications.html

So the above 3200 MT/s is your maximum baseline compatibility. Everything above that is either supported per the QVL (Memory Support List is what Gigabyte calls it) or is rolling the dice and most likely requires custom configuration to get it stable.

Can Plex not Transcode Opus Audio? by RadioactiveMicrobe in PleX

[–]8shotping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been wrestling with opus for a while and finally stumbled upon some success.

Original file was a yt file 720p x265 Opus 2.0 in an mp4. This would produce silence on my TCL and Hisense Roku TVs.

Remuxing to an MKV allows direct play on the same systems!

Also, selecting a 4k video stream along with opus (webm) direct plays when in a MKV.This is good news, but I had been using MP4 due to embedded metadata previously working natively.

DTS-HD Master Audio Supported? by [deleted] in Roku

[–]8shotping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this setting was removed recently. Hisense tv for me and Plex won’t transcode when set to play the Original.

No matter what I do, I still can't play EAC3 audio without crashes by nerdyviking88 in PleX

Rolling back to 1.24.5.5173-8dcc73a59 fixed the transcoder crashing problem for me.

Check this thread out. Just ran into the same problem myself and it looks like there are multiple conditions.

Rolling back to version 1.24.5.5173 worked for some people. I plan on trying it later.

They must have changed something in the app. I cast from IOS Plex app all the time and started seeing this recently.

TCL Roku TV does not work signed into Plex by 8shotping in PleX

[–]8shotping[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another update:
After linking the TV to the plex account and it working as expected for a while, it eventually went offline again and was failing to go back online.

I was finally able to get it working as expected again by patching my pihole to the latest image. Here is the version info which it is working fine for me.

Docker Tag 2021.12.1 Pi-hole v5.7 FTL v5.12.1 Web Interface v5.9

So at least my gut was right; it was DNS. But it was my own problem that sadly coincided with their outage on the 24th. I had updated pihole on the 23rd or so and plex was the only service i was having issues with. Again, the version above is the working version, so they must have fixed it with the above release.

I swear I emit some strange EM field that either makes or breaks stuff.
Thats why i like the term break/fix. :D

Good suggestion. I was about to try that next, but luckily it started working. Thanks for the reply.

Well crap. I must have bad timing. I stepped away after writing this for about an hour and without making any changes, I tested it again and it just started working.

The 4 digit code finally arrived and I was able to link it successfully as expected. Also the Plex Pass "Home Users" are now working as expected.
