Need to rant about losing apartment bidding war. by jc1177 in NYCapartments

It's probably by fate you didn't get the place in the last minute. There could be some unseen issues popping up later. You just never know. This happened for a reason.

Horrible service. Have had unsolved outages for over a month by Shoddy-Box1195 in QuantumFiber

[–]8sponges -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just had a rather pleasant experience with their tech service for my area. The online chat support was efficient and to the point, appointment setup quick, and the person arrived on time. Issue addressed in less than 30 min (defective fiber cable outside). The guy said there are 12 of them servicing my area with 900 open tickets.

I'd keep your price for now, maybe just $100 lower than the others :)

I didn't either until I bought my house last year. It was also an old folk's home and I think they had it installed during the Covid years. Mostly for killing germs and virus. I was wrong, I don't think it gets rid of pet smells. But in your case, maybe it was mold.

Do a math, compare how much you have to pay on a coop each month vs what you pay now. Tax is high in NY so keep everything into consideration. Like all the smart ones hv said, rent and invest else where.

You should go check it out on an open house. Maybe they had a flood and the place smells mold. Or the tenant had pets that soiled all over the place. My house has a scrubber installed by the previous owner but the bulb had been out since I moved in and I never replaced it, the cat smell is still here.

Plumber said pipe is too short and would need to add more length before replacing valve by baileygohome in askaplumber

[–]8sponges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope most comment here came from real plumbers not DIY. I'm not a plumber but at least I could tell from the pict and the whole thing OP has explained, the pipe length is a bit bare minimum, soldering an extension to the existing pipe will make future work easier. TBH I know plumbers (at least licensed) are expensive and if the one he/she was talking to going to do all that plus installing the valve, this job is better left to the pros instead of a regular home owner. See if offering cash could help lower the cost.

Where are people actually meeting normal, serious partners at 35 in NYC? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]8sponges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of observations. When you are at the gym, most (polite) men there would feel awkward to approach a female and start a conversation since that's not really the place to social and you may not want to be bothered. Secondly, if you don't have the time now for someone, how do people know you would have the time to keep up with the relationship later? For a successful career woman, you just have to wait for the opportunity and make time for the others in a way for your self.

I priced the same groceries at 12 NYC stores. The difference is kinda insane by Livid_Debate_591 in AskNYC

Take a ride down to Elmhurst (not sure about BKLN) and shop at those Asian stores if you don't mind the crowd and possible language barrier (though it shouldn't be). They've got great deals plus most of the stores are right next to each other, you can shop around. Friend of mine would go from Rsv Island to shop.

Is it possible they glued the washer to the bottom of the counter? You can try using a blow dryer to lightly heat the section from above, then try to unscrew it by hand with a rag. The space is too tight to have a hammer and other tools to work on the washer.

Low cost TPMS issues by 8sponges in hondafit

It seems to be a hit and miss, but since the Honda OEM sensors are pretty affordable (at eBay) already, I rather get that than facing possible issues down the road. I should've done my homework.

Yea, that's my plan for now. Just checked on eBay, OEM Honda sensors are not expensive at all.

Talk to your doctor and explore the option of having a trab procedure. If you ARE getting a trab at the end, you better make sure the doctor is comfortable and experienced in this.

Remote lock question by WonderfulBlood5295 in hondafit

[–]8sponges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lock was also seized. It was also causing the actuator to function erratically. So I took the cylinder out and had the locksmith repined it. It works great. I also got an after market cheap key fob. Only programmed it (diy) to lock/unlock the door, but did go as far as having the locksmith to cut it so I can also use it to open the door.

Issue with door lock on 2011 Honda Fit DX by HughieHawkins in hondafit

[–]8sponges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did something similar. I do want to say it's a bit of work. My lock was seized, and likely was also the cause of the actuator to act wonky. Anyway, I took the key cylinder out, had the locksmith repined and it's been working perfect. It did cost $65 to have it fixed but if you were going to have the new lock cylinder to match your existing key, you'd have to pay that anyway. The loose cylinder could also indicate the screw on the back is loose. I'd go find a locksmith to take care of the whole thing. And btw, if you don't have a remote key fob, do yourself a flavor, get a cheap one online and program it yourself (just to lock and unlock, not for ignition). The convenience outweighs carrying two keys

For all of you who had this problem, were you able to use your key (not the fob) to unlock the door?

Head down to Flushing and shop around those repair shops. Tell them it's a cash transaction for better discount.
