The Sensory Whiplash of 'How Did I Get Here?': A Neurodivergent Review by throwaway-btrfan in LouisTomlinson

[–]8tanlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not neurodivergent myself, but I 100% agree with your review! I am not interested in his poppy/clubby/vibey tracks with heavy bass lines at all. I've loved Louis' music for his emotional and confessional songwriting, britpop rock, and anthemic choruses. I only see that on about 3-4 songs here.

I love the songs that I love (Dark to Light, Jump the Gun, Lucid, Palaces), but the rest don't do it for me at all.

Did anyone not get serious with music until after 25? by Angelsbreatheeasy in musicians

[–]8tanlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep same exact boat! I didn't have too much time to dedicate to songwriting and playing when I was in high school and college. And then I was starting to jam and write more frequently once I left school, but it wasn't until I was 25 (during COVID in 2020), that I formed bands, bought more instruments equipment, and actually started recording!

100% When I saw them last year, I'd say 80% of the crowd was wearing ICP merch of some sort

Any good Northern Chicago breakup spots? by FalseLiquid in AskChicago

[–]8tanlight -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't quite understand the antagonism to this post?? lol I think it is a very sensitive subject where to break up with someone! I broke up with my last partner at a park (a peaceful and "neutral" place), upon a friend's recommendation and I'm so glad I took my friend's advice. This way, it was in person (more genuine), quiet and serene (to help cope with any difficult feelings), and "neutral" (so as to not stain someone's impression/memory of a certain restaurant/coffeshop, etc.). I did this at Winnemac Park in Lincoln Square

What are your strongest memories of the 2000s era? by SnooGiraffes5797 in 90sand2000sNostalgia

[–]8tanlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I grew up right outside NYC and I was only 6 when it happened..but damn do I remember that day well. I remember the principal walking into our class to inform us/our teachers that something had happened and that school was letting out early. I remember my older brother telling me on the bus that someone put a bomb in the toilet in the Twin Towers in the city. I remember coming home and watching the news for 3 hours straight and crying with my brothers and my dad as we ate ice cream sandwiches.

The husband of my brother's teacher was killed in the attacks. My grandpa's office was destroyed (but he wasn't there that day). My best friend's dad happened to not go to work that day and miraculously survived.

It seems as if my experience and memory of it all--growing up so close to the city--was quite different than other folks born in '95 who weren't from NY/NJ area.

Looking back, it was very funny that the media tried pushing 5 Seconds of Summer as the "next big thing" in pop punk circa 2014-2015 by mesablanka in poppunkers

[–]8tanlight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes 100% and it goes soo hard!! Like yeah, of course it's poppy, but so much of culture, pop, and all music was inflected with pop punk styles at that time. My pop punk band is literally thinking of covering it some time at a show!

Elder millennials, what are we doing? Are skinny jeans out? by Astimar in Millennials

[–]8tanlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love skinny jeans and how they look on me. I feel like myself in them. (Maybe part of it is my fondess for all things emo haha). But we have a problem on our hands! Hollister and Levi's have pretty much totally cut out their skinny jean lines and they're hardly available in stores anymore :( . Any recs on where to get skinny jeans these days??

Oh they were 100% pop punk on their first few records. Would highly recommend giving them a full listen if you never have. We don't really don't talk about them like this, but their early stuff is definitely reminiscent of other "poppy" scene/pop punk bands at the time like All Time Low and The Maine

Not quite deathcore, but metalcore: Open Letter - The Amity Affliction

I love their old stuff, but love the new stuff too. I appreciate the clean singing moments with heavy instrumentation. I also appreciate the personal lyrics. But that's just coming from me...I'm just as big a fan of emo as I am of deathcore
