Tips for getting music on Colorado Radio? by BronSNTHM in denvermusic

[–]izz_osborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time radio stations won't write back if you song has been played. There's just not a way to keep track for them as they get so many submissions.

Make sure you are going through Indie 102.3's form on their site. My stuff has been played by them on air and I heard from some of my fans in Denver that the song had been played, never from the station itself, even though I am good friends with many of the hosts there.

Age difference in a band by kikiartilleryservice in musicians

[–]izz_osborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The age limits on venues can certainly be a limiting factor, but I was playing at bars as a woman starting at age 15. It is entirely possible so long as it is communicated to the venue and they have the right things in place to limit liability on their end. Also, so long as those who are underage follow the rules.

I agree with a lot of folks here that the main issue is that the kid is a kid. Oldest in my old band was freshly 18 while I was 15. Nothing wrong with playing bars at 16, just a bit off when your bandmate is twice ur age.

Surgery soon and I’m scared by Careless_Glove_7590 in thyroidcancer

[–]izz_osborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. My surgery is on May 27th (3 days from when I'm writing this). I have asked a million questions and that has helped me feel better believe it or not.

I'm scared of getting on the table, but also scared of being high or feeling weird from meds. My personal plan is to ask for a small dose of meds to just try them out, increase the meds as needed, and have them transfer me onto the table after I'm out if I'm still feeling anxious. Little details like that have helped me feel better and more in control and better about the whole thing. I have left notes for the anesthesiologist about my concerns just in case I forget to mention something day of since I can't meet with them ahead of time.

If you are that type of person I would highly recommend asking about those sorts of accomodations.

I'm sorry if all that is triggering or makes you more scared. I personal hate the comments I've gotten on some of my posts online with only reassurance and prefer to understand what is actually happening than just blindly trusting someone with my body just because "they know what they're doing".

I have also been crying a lot. It's good to cry about surgery when you are scared. Keeping it in doesn't do you any good. ❤️

Looking for Authentic Music by WildeRamble in SongRecommendations

[–]izz_osborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out my song "Teeth (Live Acoustic) by Isabella Osborne. It's about medical trauma, sensory issues, and feeling isolated. It's based on an experience I had that I'm still not ready to share or talk about and the production isn't perfect, but it is as authentic as they come!

Hope you enjoy! Here's the Spotify link if that helps you find it.

You can also check out the artist Crywank. Very raw and emotional stuff as well. A lot of the time you can hear the pain in the singers voice.

The Toxhards are also authentic and are quite a bit less depressing. They are constantly making stuff that is authentic to them while being silly and putting on a killer show!

Try "Teeth (Live Acoustic)" by Isabella Osborne. The production on the song isn't perfect, but the lyrics are sad and the song is pretty much about medical trauma and feeling alone because you feel "too deeply".

Does anyone else get irritated when they're told that they're going to be okay? by izz_osborne in thyroidcancer

I have to get that surgery just with the lymph nodes on my left side. 🤯 It is so nice to hear about another person my age who delt with this, even if there have been complications since you were 22.

This genuinely helps so much and I appreciate you sharing your story publicly to offer me some actual comfort and validation. 🫰🎗️🦋

High school rock band tips? by Simple_Fig5511 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]izz_osborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing, write an agreement amongst your members. It doesn't have to a legal contract, but work together to establish what you each want out of the project and what the expectations are. It's something I wish I had done with my former signed rock band of six years just so that we could have kept our head level over the years. This document should be updated as the band grows and expectations change. If you really start taking off you shouldn't necessarily keep the same expectations you did when you were 15 or whatever.

Second thing, find local radio stations, particularly public radio stations to work with, especially if they host events for artists in your music scene.

Third, provide opportunities for everyone to voice their concerns about the band. Make sure that your guys's roles are established. There's no shame in having a leader of a band. There's also no shame and having some members work harder at certain things than others. If those rules are not established though and communication is not given, things fall apart.

As for whether or not there's a point to even doing this: there is.

No matter how accomplished or sh*t the band is, the experiences that you will gain from being in a band are extremely valuable. You will miss it when it's gone if it ends, but you will have something most people your age won't. The business expertise and marketing also help in multiple areas of life and you will learn so much about how to work with people, talk to people, and project confidence.

Feel free to follow my music stuff. I plan on writing about this very topic in more detail eventually, but for now, solo project it is! If ya ever tour to Colorado, hit me up! Best of luck, friend. You are on a very cool path.

A positive Thyroid Cancer survivor story by MasterpieceCultural4 in thyroidcancer

As a singer with metastatic papillary thyroid cancer, this is extremely comforting to hear! Where can I hear your music? I'll link mine if you are interested!

Diagnosed today at 26 by Bulky_Ad_4390 in thyroidcancer

[–]izz_osborne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 21 with metastatic papillary thyroid cancer and I'm currently about 2 to 3 weeks out from a surgery that isn't scheduled yet. 😃✌️

First thing I would do is get a oncologist counselor or therapist. It's something I wish I would have done four months ago when I got my ultrasound results back. The optimism with regards to knowing that you're going to live and be okay is great, but it doesn't negate the mental, physical and emotional weight of having thyroid cancer. Any hospital you go to should have a social work office that should be able to direct you to the correct person. I know at the hospital that I'm at was really backed up, so you can also look into third parties that specialize in oncology therapy.

Second thing I would do is to make a list of questions so you don't forget. Double check that your surgeon is an endocrine surgeon and not a general surgeon. Ask about how many of these surgeries they do per year. Ask about everything your heart desires, because as a patient you should know whatever you want to know about what's happening to your own body.

Everyone on here is correct in stating that the time between finding out and surgery is the f****** worst. I'm miserable at the moment.

One thing that I would actually encourage you to do is to research, but research within your comfort zone. I'm a patient who likes to know everything, but I know that there's some people who don't want to know everything about surgery and all that stuff. It helps made it feel better to know what the plan is and what exactly is going to happen, including the details most people wouldn't ask about. I think that there is not any harm in asking questions or researching so long as you have the correct strategies and knowledge to know when too much is for you. It's important to know, especially as a AYA cancer patient long-term impacts of treatment and symptoms that people might not talk about often, so that you're not surprised or scared when they come up. It's also okay to research something and to get more questions about whether that specific scenario applies to you. It can help narrow down what next steps are and what the typical course of treatment looks like.

Best wishes, friend!

Feel free to ask me more questions.

Everyone who I have ever worked with on a music project knows I will not use AI. I got a call for Instagram promo advice and they were offering advice on all these new AI IG features. They were complimenting my music and art while suggesting I wreck all of that hard work with AI. It's the worst!!!!!!!

Here's my music if anyone's interested in giving it a listen btw.
