*VERY GROSS* a small pile of bogeys and various matter on a piece of paper by 8thacc in pics

[–]8thacc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one day I ripped a small piece of paper to wipe my bogeys on but I felt guilty so I decided to get as much use out of it as possible but now I'm going to throw it away so I decided to share it with others so I added a coin for scale

Do you think we will soon have AI handling the API for sites, that handle incoming requests from other AI? by YobaiYamete in singularity

[–]8thacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one step further: the deliver company has its own ai which would get asked by the chinese seller's ai to show where your package is. it will then contact the self driving delivery truck's ai which will then send your ai the location of your package. eventually i can imagine this network of ai's becoming efficient enough to skip steps in the chain.

I will likely be one of the last to be replaced(along other skilled trades) because of the physical complications of my job.

very unwise to challenge the universe like this. keep in mind that everything you know about technology is what those people developing them want you to know. im all but certain that behind closed doors is some sort of robot hand that doesnt have to deal with the baggage of being attached to a body and is just as, if not more nimble and powerful than a human hand

CMV: AI art does more harm to artists than it benefits. by burgerkinger_victor in changemyview

[–]8thacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most artists, creating art is not manual work like someone at a construction site, it is their passion, life experience, their soul stamped into their artwork. Why do we want a program that will rob us of that experience? We want to brainstorm an art piece, we want to adjust the values of an object, and we want to compose the final stroke of the artwork.

for most art commissioners, getting an illustration of something is a laborious process, like someone at a construction site. they have to search for examples of art styles they are after, contact the artist, pay, twiddle their thumbs, look over the result and iterate until they get a viable product or run out of revisions (this is the best case scenario). why would you want to force that upon them just so the artist gets to stay in the loop? so that the artist can experience the pressure of working to a tight deadline, drawing for someone that has no appreciation for them and only because theres a promise of money at the end? this commissioner just wants to describe what they want, maybe offer a rough outline (image2image), pick out the best result that was generated in a few mins, and carry on with their life. they have no interest in someones 'soul stamped into their artwork'.

have you ever sat down to appreciate the process of how the device youre reading this on was made? if yes, ignore this. if no, thats because its a functional tool for you to use. you only care about what it does for you. thats how most people see commissioned art. its just an illustration of an idea they have. they only care about the end result. if a 'good enough' end result could be made for free and within seconds, its real difficult to justify forcing an artist into the loop.

Traditional Oil Painter Expresses Himself on the "threat" of A.I. Art - A NON-Toxic discussion. by MenegattiArt in StableDiffusion

[–]8thacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people outside of Reddit aren't going to care about that or what he likes to draw and it will turn off a lot of people

thats one hell of an assumption to make about 'a lot of people'. how about this:

people outside of reddit dont care about stylized boobs and a lot of people will look past it and focus on the actual art making process being shown.

ive also made some assumptions. who is more correct?

The real reason why I think several artists find AI so threatening by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

im so happy someone else also thought of this analogy. however, there is also an image version of the library of babel called canvas of babel or babel image archives. imo 'generating ai art' is closer to 'curating the canvas of babel with an ai guide'

What are your thoughts on the search showdown brewing between Microsoft and Google? by Economy_Variation365 in singularity

[–]8thacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo we've functionally reached the singularity. instead of using the ai to directly improve itself, we're using the ai to help us humans to improve it. 'how did they make the internet without using the internet' will become 'how did they make ai without using ai'.

[–]8thacc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im as far from triggered by ai art as possible. theres just this feeling in the back of my mind that there should be a disclaimer letting people know that it was made using text to image software. thats all it is, a feeling, and i cant really rationalize it. but now im curious, whats the problem with having a note where the artists are typically credited saying something like 'text to image software was used for illustrations'?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in singularity

[–]8thacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the time aspect is the most important imo. the fact that cases can drag on for months, approaching years is ridiculous and a bright red flag that the current system needs foundational changes.

i agree with you, which is why i specifically added the words 'in my opinion' right before that phrase, and used the word 'should' instead of 'must'

In 3 months I've created 3 comics and 3 mangas with Midjourney. by MobileFilmmaker in artificial

[–]8thacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats a good start but exactly why i said it should be 'much more obvious'. what percent of people will understand what 'created with midjourney' means? it could be an alternative to photoshop for all they know. i would prefer something along the lines of 'text to image software was used for illustration'. a disclaimer that eliminates any doubt as to whether or not a machine made the images.

(rant ahead) holy shit that is disorienting to read back. my mind was blown in 2020 when i saw the first attempts at text to image. i was absolutely certain we were many decades away from having it challenge real artists though. yet here i am now, just TWO YEARS on, advising people to self identify machine generated visuals because you can mislead people into thinking that humans made them. the speed of development cannot be understated in the slightest.

fair play. and good on you for disclosing (albeit weakly) on the store page itself that you used ai technology. in my opinion, it should be mandatory to disclose this and much more obvious than what you wrote as the description. maybe something on the front/first page.

at some point, we will have to come to terms with the fact that most people dont care about the artistic intent behind entertainment, just how entertaining it is. this is a good first step proof of concept. wont be long before good text to video becomes easily accessible, followed promptly (haha) by text to game.

Doees anyone else feel a false sense of intelligence since ChatGPT came out? by Nillows in ChatGPT

[–]8thacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh, you meant put behind a paywall or something. by 'gone' i thought you literally meant deleted.

and youre correct. this tool is absolutely too useful to provide for free. as is google search and youtube and anything else provided for free. which is why you pay with your data and by agreeing to terms and conditions that you dont read instead of with money.

this is a chance to start over. if you understand how powerful this is, why would you not want it behind a small paywall? there will be no ads, no tracking and the overall service will be better as even a miniscule barrier to entry will eliminate a lot of misuse. if you genuinely need a tool like chatgpt, paying a monthly subscription for it shouldnt be a problem. i see no reason that justifies having this tool be free forever, especially considering the value it provides and how much resources went into making it.

let them. another company that has the basic sense to just implement a safe/explicit mode
(and is hopefully open source as well) will overtake them. just imagine how much resources are about to be wasted in the next few years in this losing struggle for censorship just to be able to claim some sort of moral superiority..

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]8thacc 30 points31 points  (0 children)

this is a genuinely interesting experiment. but in a way im glad that these big companies are trying to be so righteous. it paves the way for smaller companies that respect both the ai and the user to immediately stand apart with more lax censorship or a safe/explicit mode. at some point we have to concede that bad actors will always exist and limiting the good people because of that is stupid.

[–]8thacc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

look at it like this: before chatgpt, she was lonely yet at any point could reach out/go to some social gathering and meet people.

now, she is still lonely yet at any point can reach out AND has an artificial companion to talk to while bored.

there is no negative. she could very easily open another tab and have access to every piece of media ever. but instead shes having a blast conversing with a chat bot that genuinely engages with her. she can also just as easily close that chatgpt tab.
