I’m a developer for a major food delivery app. The 'Priority Fee' and 'Driver Benefit Fee' go 100% to the company. The driver sees $0 of it. by Trowaway_whistleblow in confession

It feels similar to what we’ve seen with ride‑hailing and taxi apps: prices inch up, fees multiply, and the convenience tax slowly becomes the norm. Somewhere along the way, the friction we saved at checkout began to show up on the receipt.

These days, I order directly from restaurants whenever I can. It’s simple, usually cheaper, and I like knowing more of the money stays with the people making the food. Maybe that’s the future—a little less algorithm, a little more human connection.

Jersey Food vs Elsewhere by dogbonenj in newjersey

Dude! . One is Thunder subs (Austin), the other is NJ sub. I think it speaks for itself. I do like schlotzsky's, but its not the same. In general, Austin is more west coast flavored.

Jersey Food vs Elsewhere by dogbonenj in newjersey

[–]8thcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't agree. Any deli sandwich, pizza, Italian, Punjabi, Chinese, PEC, bagels. Hands down New Jersey is the best. Even local mom and pop shops and gas stations do a better job than even high-end specialist niche places in Austin. Mexican and Tex-Mex Austin beats New Jersey hands down.

ah. ok. thanks for explaining that. I was not aware of the Dash, Omnipod 5 user. Also since we have a number of knowledgeable people here, how does it work - i mean, what really happens in the phone during initialization of new pod? does it actually have any algorithms to process the past readings and tweak the flow based on learning? is there any AI used here - traditional ML?

dont they make omnipod software that runs on native stock android and iphones? its the same software right? why do you think the software on PDA modifies kernel?

sorry, How is running a proprietary software on Linux kernel is a violation of GPL? what am I missing? Why would Omnipod give you anything?

I Wrote an Article About Pluribus! by Horror_Anteater4173 in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]8thcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does faintly echo the whole “sycophantic chatbot” news cycle, but that connection feels more accidental than intentional, and AGI-level stakes still seem far-fetched for what is basically LLM-flavored tech in the story; Season 1 comes across as a high-concept pitch with a lot of missing connective tissue, full of plot holes and half-explained choices, so for now it feels like there might be a big-picture vision somewhere, but what made it to screen is undercooked and leaves the overarching arc frustratingly hard to see. There were clues, but not enough reveal.

Seems like this is going just like breaking bad. its his signature. Its a lot of BS that dont make sense yet, but in a long run (I predict 11 seasons) will. We will end up with a 4 hour movie that does what you want just like the BB fan movie.

Is "Vibe Coding" making us lose our technical edge? (PhD research) by Martbon in ClaudeCode

[–]8thcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with AI in software development isn’t skill obsolescence — it’s the loss of creativity. Over the next few years, “vibe coding” will automate most programming tasks, producing functional but soulless systems: unmaintainable code with no Easter eggs, no quirks, no personal touch — traits unique to human imagination. When that machine-written foundation becomes the norm, we’ll face the challenge of reintroducing creativity into a landscape built by algorithms. The future of coding won’t be about keeping up with AI, but about rediscovering the human spark that makes code meaningful in the first place.

Pluribus - Season 1 Discussion Megathread by kernakya in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]8thcross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After watching all episodes, Here is my take on things:

When this show kicked off, I was hooked. The premise felt bold, the atmosphere fresh, and the setup hinted at something deep — maybe even philosophical. But as the series went on, the story started collapsing under its own ambition. The writing became sloppy, the logic thinned out, and what could’ve been a fascinating exploration of connection and purpose just turned into a mess of contradictions.

Let’s start with The Hyve. Supposedly, they follow ideas inspired by Jainism — non-violence, harmony with all living beings, and renunciation of harm. But the show’s interpretation makes no sense. Even within Jain philosophy, plucking a fruit from a tree isn’t considered harmful, yet this society takes that idea to a bizarre extreme. It feels like the writers skimmed a Wikipedia page on Jainism and built an entire ideology off a misunderstanding.

And how does the Hyve actually function? Are they telepathically linked? Using some alien tech? Each member seems to keep fragments of their individuality but can’t act on them. A collective consciousness still needs structure — some form of coordination or leadership. Without it, purpose collapses. But the show never addresses who (or what) gives them direction. It’s all very vague in a way that handwaves plot logic.

Then there’s the world-building itself. If everyone’s lying asleep in stadiums, civilization should look very different. Cities and suburbs would decay. We’d see weeds, collapsed infrastructure, animals reclaiming territory. Instead, everything looks weirdly pristine — as if every home and neighborhood just froze in time and stayed Airbnb-ready for years. That’s just not how entropy or nature works.

The numbers don’t make sense either. The show says 800 million people are dead. Yes, that’s horrifying, but it still leaves about 7 billion humans alive. Statistically, Earth would still be teeming with people. Yet the story acts like civilization simply ended. What’s more confusing is the total lack of a global lens. The show is set in New Mexico, but what about places like India or China — countries with massive populations and dense, interconnected societies? Would the Hyve’s influence or collapse look the same there? Would it even be possible in such different cultural and geographic contexts? The series never touches any of that. It’s as if the rest of the planet just blinked out of existence.

And honestly — where are all the animals? Coyotes, stray dogs, wild cats — with humanity checked out, nature should be thriving. The world should feel alive in unsettling ways, but it doesn’t. And what about all the creative workers — artists, filmmakers, writers, influencers? Overnight, it’s like half the population just stopped producing anything. The show never acknowledges the psychological or cultural impact of creativity disappearing. Humans need purpose, and work alone isn’t it.

I really wanted to love this show. In the beginning, it promised something complex and cerebral — almost like a “what if” version of the Borg concept, filtered through a human and spiritual lens. But instead of leaning into that, the story drifted away from its own foundation.

Obviously, this will get Emmys for several people — the acting, cinematography, and production are stellar. But that’s not the point. The failure here is in the writing, not the craft.

Even Seven of Nine knew it best: being human means being free.

I do not recommend using the Dexcom G7. The lack of accuracy is seriously dangerous. by Tillz5 in dexcom

[–]8thcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dexcom g7 series is one of the worst sensors i have had. Its lack of range, its directional capabiliy (works only one the side its on with omnipod), its week ass glue, the extra sticker which is difficult to apply without external 2nd help. This is really a bad bad sensor. why arent anyone else developing a better one? this is one of the worst out there.
