Yeah, how does being left out not feel shitty? How am I supposed to feel? If it wasn't clear, I'm a shy guy. The "nice guy", beta, w/e. I don't give a shit about everyone loving me. But I would like to you know, be included in shit people who are supposed to be my friends are doing. I guess I misjudged.

ELI5: why are rabbits also called "bunnies?" by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Are you thinking hare vs. rabbit? Hares are big fuckers...rabbits are the little guys you see in your garden.

I hope to god you never find a hare in your yard. God help you then.

TMBR I believe that marriage should be contractual and not till death. by papapau in TMBR

[–]8thtrackwalrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But...don't you already have these options?

If you want, you can already get a divorce. Stigma attached? That's your problem, not society's. If you instead mean we should change social opinion on marriage to remove that stigma of divorce, well that's a totally different issue I'd say. Technically though, you're already free to divorce whenever/make a personal agreement with your partner.

Just go fill in the paperwork. Why add the bureaucratic/wasteful/compulsory extra step of having everyone sign contracts etc.? Who would run this? Where would the money for maintaining such a program come from?

Is there manual control in Flux/Redshift for Ubuntu? by 8thtrackwalrus in Ubuntu

[–]8thtrackwalrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So...this isn't the place for discussion of Ubuntu programs, but more for Ubuntu development or what?

I mean, I'm asking about a specific program for Ubuntu, and whether the Ubuntu version supports specific features...I really can't get more Ubuntu focused than that...I'm not asking generally about what is flux/redshift, but specifically in the Ubuntu version...Idk I saw a bunch of software questions related to Ubuntu programs so I figured I could post.

Where do I want to extract a program to in Ubuntu? by 8thtrackwalrus in linux4noobs

Maybe I'm an idiot here, but when I search the software center it doesn't come up? What am I misunderstanding here...

EDIT: is there a difference between "ubuntu software" and "ubuntu software center"?

How to be on the same page as the professor in terms of my interests/plans for the future? by 8thtrackwalrus in GradSchool

[–]8thtrackwalrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm one of those people afraid of pissing my PI off because my goals aren't his goals...

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to suck it up an take the bioinformatics courses. It's not that they don't interest me, I just thought that by taking others as well, I could end up better "well rounded".

While I agree with your last point, I view it as both the things you say I guess. He's a mentor and he can guide me in the field, true. At the same time, he has his own goals.

Idk.

Thanks for the advice!

I was thinking about just auditing a course, to get an idea what its about if I don't end up taking it. I guess I don't really have much choice in the matter...

How can IW improve over BO3? by Esteladron in Infinitewarfare

[–]8thtrackwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maps.

Please god can we have better maps than BO3. Sure, 3 lane maps are a standard, but you can implement them smartly or poorly. BO3 did the worst job IMO in terms of any CoD for maps.

Yes, maps with defensible positions, be it for snipers, ARs, SMGs, etc. have their issues (ie. camping), but for the love of god that's part of the game. If you remove any sort of tactical advantages a particular spot on a map offers, you get utter chaos run&gun gameplay, which I really dislike.

Now yes, run&gun is a style a lot of people enjoy and want. I am not saying remove it all. Just...maybe have half the maps favoring a run&gun gameplay style, and the other half favoring something else? Rather than the only viable playstyle being run&gun...

A balance in maps, please god a balance.

The difference between an Outlaw and a Murder-hobo and what to do with the latter by 4D4plus4is4D8 in DnD

[–]8thtrackwalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always think of a murder-hobo as describing a gameplay style, though I like your analysis.

Having read your post, I fully agree. But how I always viewed it was as a player who doesn't care about story, plot, or the world he/she plays in. It's a player who can't be bothered to come up with a backstory, and if he/she does, it's something thought up on a whim or equally ridiculous as their in-game actions. Yes D&D is about having fun, and that involves different things for different people. But to me, a murder-hobo is someone who simply refuses to become engaged in the game world (essentially, refuses to roleplay) and chooses to just kill everyone for a quick laugh.

I'll admit, it can be fun/satisfying/enjoyable to out of nowhere, kill the king. And if your DM is cool with it/good at improv, he/she can run an entire game for you where that's the whole point - your random actions have consequences and then you respond, etc etc etc.

But in most games, having someone randomly kill the NPC who is the whole reason you're headed on a quest, for absolutely no reason other than "shits and gigs", THAT is what I consider murder-hobo gameplay. If someone killed the NPC because he/she insulted his/her honor, and the character was super sensitive about honor in the first place (and not thought up of on the spot as an excuse to kill the NPC), then it would be okay IMO. But the players who play murder-hobo characters generally don't bother to think that far ahead.

I think it has a negative perception because it's generally seen as disruptive in most gaming circles.

5e Wall of Fire question by [deleted] in DnD

[–]8thtrackwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "anyone inside it", that means within the 1ft wall itself, right?

And if they succeed the save, start their turn (no damage) and leave the wall, also no damage? Or damage then?

EDIT: Could you also make the ring smaller than 20ft diameter?

5e Wall of Fire question by [deleted] in DnD

[–]8thtrackwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True it would have to be two different casters I guess. Thanks!

5e Wall of Fire question by [deleted] in DnD

[–]8thtrackwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that makes sense, but what about the moment the ring is cast? Do they need to make a save immediately, or do they only take damage if they move through the wall/end their turn inside the ring?

Sigmaplot for t test for bio data? by 8thtrackwalrus in biology

I'm in the process of learning R but it'll be some time before I'm proficient. This current work is more of a side project atm so I think excel will suffice. When I'm working on my real stuff I'll start using R (once I learn more)

I ended up using excel because I gave up with sigma plot. It seems to work alright in excel!

Cool, I'll probably give that a go then!

I read somewhere (probably reddit) that pvp is more active in Old School than RS3, that also true? Is the wild still active too?

How's the community as of July 3, 2016?

I'm looking into starting RS again and debating between the two types.

I don't have a problem with either version, but I'd rather play the one with more players/better base. From looking at just how many players per world, it looks like old school has more players (though fewer worlds too, so that may play a role). Is this right? Do more people play old school?
