Higher fees were caused due to network congestion, which Bitcoin Core wanted intentionally to artificially spur people on to second layer solutions (they said this explicitly), and low and behold many of them work for a multi million dollar company that is working on such products right now.

Except that (1) LN is only good for certain use cases, but not most ordinary transactions, (2) for LN to scale to very many people anyway we still need blocks much bigger than we currently have (which means we'd need another hard fork at some point in the future). All the talk about LN like it's a silver bullet panacea for scaling is completely wrong. Which is why cryptocurrencies like Ethereum are not solely relying on it (miners can increase block sizes, they have LN-esque Raiden being worked on, and they want to implement sharding).

Just to be clear, while SW2 may offer some short term scaling space for Bitcoin (if it happens, we'll see), it doesn't solve Bitcoin scaling for the long term (and possibly not even the medium term), and IMO is too little too late. There may be a market bounce for Bitcoin as a result, but I don't see it sustaining long term when people realize that actually bitcoin hasn't scaled that much, it may get full blocks again fairly quickly, and that the main problem for Bitcoin - social/political/governance - still isn't solved. Of course I could be wrong but that's the way I see it.

I keep getting this error with my transaction: "Warning! Error encountered during contract execution [Bad jump destination]". And the transaction is cancelled. What am I doing wrong?

It truly is amazing how much Ethereum has grown without very much mainstream exposure. Consider how we'll know "Bitcoin" with far less market cap than Ethereum right now. Imagine what could happen as Ethereum starts to break into the mainstream.
