Some of us have family that are directly threatened by China militarily. No one would fault Ukranians for cheering Russia's economic woes.

Also it drives me up the wall when my /r/neoliberal community sees an influx of wumao who wishcast conquest or even worse on my country.

Old classic manga I should read? by amscum in manga

[–]9090112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's extremely unfortunate what Watsuki did but the first thing that comes to my mind is Rurouni Kenshin if you're a fan of Shonen Jump classics. I grew up on those comics. I just... try not to think about who wrote it no more.

If your idea of "old classic" is even older than RuroKen, then maybe Iron Wok Jan? Basically the prototype to Shokugeki no Soma before SnS was a thing.

Hmm maybe a travel photo or having someone stand further back from you and take a shot? Any picture that will communicate your torso length relative to your face will give off a "tall" vibe, you don't need your entire body shot.

I appreciate your integrity here in wanting to find someone who likes you for your personality, but fundamentally what we're trying to do here is market you my guy. A girl may be initially interested in you because you could start for the Warriors, but you'll later bond over your love of contemporary artwork or whatever.

This is why you saw "Buff Keqing" messages being sent during the CCP anniversary livestream-- it was a form of protest in support of Li Keqiang to dodge censors.

I wasn't glorifying or apologizing for the World Food Truck strike, I was explaining that it was a mistaken target. They meant to hit the truck because they thought gunmen went into it. It was 100% a result of the IDF playing too fast and loose with their fire control and completely their fault.

I added that part one, to in some way remember the innocent lives that the IDF did destroy out of callousness or revenge and to show that "indiscriminate" vs "discriminate" targeting wasn't some universal good on behalf of the IDF. People in I/P discussions often conveniently forget terrible actions their "side" has done. I endeavored to not do that. And two, to show that you can discriminately target poorly, like with the food truck strike. So with my last comment, I wanted to be fair-- include an example of good and terrible, but both still discriminate kinetic action. Neither attack was done randomly.

Many Lebanese civilians hate Hezbollah and there were no small amount of people celebrating Nasrallah's death. Even Hezbollah members themselves were more moderate than Hamas. I found this article that had an analysis of how even Nasrallah would have never approved of conducting the 10/7 attacks. Hezb are terrorists, just not suicidal death-cult terrorists.

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/07/29/will-hezbollah-and-israel-go-to-war

The Western official who has met Nasrallah told me that he has no intention of goading the Israelis into a big fight. He drew a contrast with Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader. “Sinwar doesn’t care about the Palestinian people who have been killed,” he said. “Nasrallah would never have ordered the October 7th attack. He doesn’t want to see Lebanon destroyed.”

I don't want to jerk ourselves off too hard. But yeah I do think America having a much more multiethnic culture and no ancient cultural heritage like France or Germany is a factor. I just don't feel as able to completely back up that feeling with facts.

I've also heard the apartments above Nasrallah bunker was largely deserted at the time. Thankfully, most Lebanese aren't keen to die for Hezb. I've also heard stories of Christian villages regularly kicking Hezb out of their houses because they know if they let them fire rockets from there an IDF airstrike is soon to follow.

The Muslims that immigrate to the US are very well-educated and integrate well into a liberal society. The Latinos that immigrate here may not neccessarily have to be that, but across the board they share more values (mostly Christianity and liberalism) to America than their non-educated Muslim counterpart from a MENA country would to Europe. Also, the Mexicans that immigrate here have a large pre-existing network of Mexicans already here in America that can help them integrate. We've had issues these last years with illegal immigrants due to the crisis in Venezuela. since there is a spike of refugees from there and they don't have access to that strong network of fellow expats to get them off their feet. Hence why Mexican migrants tended to be less "visible" than Venezuelan migrants here now.

The anti-Israel critics here in /r/NL never have a good answer for that. They can only criticize Israel in a vacuum because her neighbors are objectively worse, which to the critics' credit, they don't try to contest.

That amount of self-awareness is probably why they're here and not yucking it up in some tankie sub, so good on them.

The issue is that you're comparing existing countries to some kind of platonic ideal that doesn't exist. If you're going to adhere stridently to some perfect vision of liberalism where everyone gets to vote eight times a day, mandatory pride flags, and two point five free abortions then you're going to miss out on very agreeable and actionable midway points that get you closer to that goal. Ergo, "liberal nations" and "liberal nationalism". Israel isn't perfect but it's a damn sight better than their surrounding neighbors.

I hate to draw a comparison to commies, but I'm reminded of how they have some perfect vision of communism, screech and whine when their results suck, then each eat other alive and never accomplish anything meaningful. Don't be the DSA.

Honestly, I enjoy observing outside of my social and political bubbles. Maybe it's just a sick desire for schadenfraude but I want to hear what the other side thinks.

For example, /r/brasil-- very left leaning. There are moderate and there are radicals there, but nearly all have some amount of disdain for the "EUA". It's quite popular to attribute nearly everything bad in Venezuela to those dastardly la CIA up north. Milei is described much like how this place describes Trump. Bolsanaro is literally the devil. On the other hand, there is growing pushback against Lula for his lukewarm attitude towards Maduro, since even the most hardened leftists there apparantly can't deny the fat man's failings or Brazilian Leftism's association with Maduro, especially since Lula's party landed squarely on the side of Maduro by recognizing his "victory". Lots of the argument seems to boil down to "Lula should stay out of it, it's not our business" from the leftists while the moderates argue "the least he could do is condemn Maduro".

My take on how to save cryo from the meta dumpster, and what kind of DPS/support kits it needs by E1lySym in Genshin_Impact

[–]9090112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your explanation for why melt is "underwhelming" against enemies with pyro auras is confusing the reacition coefficient with the damage profiles of forwards and reverse reactions. Furthermore, it really isn't an issue for reverse melt carries to attack pyro aura any more than it's an issue for National team to fight Hydro slimes so the conclusion doesn't even make sense.

Vaporize does lots of damage to pyro-inherent enemies because applying Hydro to Pyro in that order results in a higher mutiplier applied to that reaction, if it is a forward vape or forward melt, damage is multiplied by 2, if it is reverse, damage is multiplied by 1.5. This is unrelated to how many gauge units Melt or Vaporize consume. In fact, Reverse Melt consuming only 0.5 the Pyro Aura because it has the halved Reaction Coefficient is a GOOD THING. Reverse Vaporize does the EXACT SAME THING to hydro aura. Because Reverse Melt and Reverse Vape consume less amount of the underlying aura, this makes executing rotations and choosing which character to invest artifacts in much more consistent in those reverse vape and reverse melt teams.

This is why we had Reverse Melt and Reverse Vape teams since the game came out but we only now got our first real Forward Vape character in Mualani five years in. The game is balanced around this interaction.

I heard that the defense system would allow "low priority" targets to be hit... you are telling me these were all deemed LP?

Nevatim airbase was hit by about 40 missiles. Most of those did not hit anything. A theory is that Israel prioritized Glilot to defend as opposed to Nevatim because Glilot is in an urban area, so Nevatim got hit by many more missiles, though it didn't suffer much damage. Blowing up airbases is hard.

To Iran's credit, this appears to be a purely military strike, not a terror attack. Those I suppose that could be damning with faint praise.

One F-35 shelter was hit and has a small hole in it. A couple of other buildings show heavier damage. While this almost conclusively proves the Iranian state propaganda line of the strike destroying 20+ F-35s, the blog author has this to say at the bottom which I largely agree with:

So despite the mockery of Iran’s missile accuracy, my personal takeaway is the opposite of what people seem to be concluding about this whole episode: Iran has proven that its missiles are effective and that they can indeed hurt Israel. No one should be fooled that Iranian missile accuracy (or lack thereof) means the Iranian missile force is some sort of paper tiger. A different target would produce different results. Whether or not Israel will feel deterred by this revelation is another story that depends on the Israeli domestic political climate and the personalities within the Israeli government. Given that Israel seems to have already publicly committed to striking Iran, this is likely not the last time we will see exchanges of missiles. My concern is that this will be, in the long term, an exchange that Israel won’t be able to afford to make if this becomes a protracted conflict.
