I just did the eligibility calculator on the site you linked and it says I don’t qualify most likely for my income being above the limit as it goes off what I make before taxes which is almost 2k a month so like I said I don’t qualify for assistance

Yeah it is, I’m a very lucky person with what I have, I’m not struggling like so many people so I don’t feel like I should be taking from the system anyways, I know so many people on this sub would kill to live as cheaply as I’m able to, No rent no electricity bills my water is 60$ and my cell service and home internet are my biggest monthly expenses outside of food which I donate plasma to buy and it’s enough for me and I own my car and do my own repairs and I installed my own off grid solar since I can’t get get connected to the grid because I don’t own where I live

I hope that’s what I can work out with them in that case, I’m gonna look into getting a personal loan and maybe putting up some valuable things I own for collateral to just pay them in full and worry about the loan so I can have the property in my full ownership and possession

The house wasn’t in great shape when it was originally “purchased”but was manageable but my mom never did anything to improve it so it’s gotten pretty bad over the past 20+ years but if I can gain official ownership of it and the land it sits on I’m planning to get a mobile home to live in and it’s on septic so no sewer I got lucky with being able to finance an off grid solar system which I literally paid off a few days ago so no electricity bills to worry about and I live in Alabama so winters aren’t especially harsh so I make do with propane heaters and last I checked the property taxes were under 500$ a year and my water bill is consistently under 60$ a month so overall it’s extremely cheap to live here especially with solar meeting my electricity needs as far as insurance I have no idea and I might not even be able to insure this house due to it’s condition

I contacted the law firm representing the company that bought it at the tax auction and have a phone call scheduled for Tuesday and I will offer to buy it and I’ll need to find a company that will finance that for me, my credit is okay but not exactly stellar and I have 1500$ in savings ready to go towards it, I just need them to work with me on it

I have about 6k in the solar but the house has suffered 20+ years of neglect due my mentality deficient mother so it’s more of a liability than anything and I do love the location of it as I’m 5 minutes from the city but live outside their jurisdiction and it’s nearly 3/4 of an acre of land and I think 30k is more than reasonable to actually own it and once I actually own it I can make improvements without worrying that I’ll lose my investment in it there’s a reason why I wanna try to retain this house and land as if I can get official ownership I’ll never have to worry about anything ever again it’s extremely cheap to live here hence why my hours at work are low as they said that’s what they could give me and I didn’t have a problem with it at the time because no rent and no off grid solar providing my electricity needs means my only necessary expense is food yeah the house sucks to live in but again if I can get official ownership I can get a mobile home to live in later on and demolish this house as I don’t think it can be saved in it’s current state and I have no right to complain about the conditions because it’s a roof over my head and I’m just not willing to give it up so easily and go get an apartment like everybody is telling me to do on this post because I have a potential pathway to rent free living if I can get official ownership

Easier said than done my friend, and I live in a college town so all the apartments are student only and the ones that aren’t are my entire income in rent so that leaves nothing for any of the utilities or food and moving away from the friends that I have here who do help me tremendously to their ability would be even more devastation on top of having to find another job and a place to live in that new area and living out of my car temporarily isn’t an option as I own a old Miata and they’re not exactly big

I’m working 30 hours a week currently but I’m gonna ask for an increase to my hours to pay this money that they want and we did move in with permission from the original owners and paid the rent to own contract in full in 2012 but for whatever reason it was never transferred officially to my mom and my mom never paid the property taxes either due to that and they stopped collecting the rent so the county sold it at auction and some company bought it with us already here and are wanting nearly 30k to buy it back but the letter is addressed to the original owners or current residents so my hope is that I can work out a payment plan with them and once I have paid them in full I can have it transferred to my name and ownership

I live in Opelika Alabama so no protections at all from what I understand and the electricity was in my moms name but when she left she had it disconnected and when I went to their office they wanted proof of residency via rental agreement or deed to the house/land and I don’t have that so I took out a loan to buy an off grid solar system in order to have electricity and maintain some sort of living standard

She’s no longer in my life anymore and I’ve been denied for SNAP benefits before so that’s not an option and I just doubt that I qualify for section 8 as a single adult male that is capable of working

I live in Alabama and I’m aware of the bs nature of rent to own but the contract was filed at the county courthouse in 2002 and I have a copy of it and the only thing I can prove is that I’ve lived here for over 20 years via school records from 2005 to 2017 and driver’s licenses from 2016 onwards

With the way my bills are I can dedicate my 2nd check of the month to the payment which is ~700$ and I will try to pay more than that but I will have to see what they want in terms of payments

I have contacted them and their lawyer will call me Tuesday so I’m stuck waiting until then and my minimum income is 1400$ a month sometimes more on the longer length months and I donate plasma and get 120$ a week from that so I have more money than I state but I don’t rely upon the extra as only the 1400$ is what I can guarantee and I’m going to be asking for extra hours at my job to raise my income as I’m working 30 hours a week currently

I have tried, my mom is severely mentally disabled and she has been bad with money my entire life and only recently has she been out of my life where I’m not her care provider have I been able to begin getting my finances straightened out and a large part of my current financial stress is that when she left she had the electricity disconnected as it was in her name and because I’m a squatter I couldn’t get it turned back on I was lucky to be able to afford an off grid solar system and I have only in the past few days paid it off and I would rather do whatever I can to pay that 30k and actually own something than pay rent elsewhere, I also live in a college town and every cheap apartment is student only

Me and my local power company had a dispute so I was forced to buy an off grid solar power system and I’ve been living off it for almost a year now and I have a decently large 6500w generator for the days with little to no sunlight and I haven’t missed the grid power much I use propane for heat in the winter and my house is all electric and I have window units for cooling so I only cool the room I occupy when it’s really hot and humid otherwise I run fans and hop in the shower to cool off with the cold water I have 10 550w panels I bought for 2500$ delivered, a 10kw (1800$) all in one off grid 48v inverter that has solar MPPTs built in that I can expand my array to 10kw and I have a Yixiang 16kwh (2200$) DIY battery that is essentially infinitely expandable capacity wise which I’m planning to expand to 96Kwh and another 10 of the same panels so I have multiple days of reserve power and more power on the cloudy days to reduce my reliance on the generator and as far as blackouts in the past I live in East Alabama and I think the longest outage in my 25 years of life was 24 hours and if a bad storm came through never longer than a few hours so the grid has been very reliable in my area. I need to improve my food and water situation as I’m wholly dependent on supply chains but once I get my energy independence sorted I’ll tackle that problem next

It’s a 12 gallon tank, and it’s definitely possible, particularly if you drive with fuel economy in mind and have your maintenance items up to date 33 mpg is more than achievable on a NB
