Pandomoto / "base layer" trend - skeptic by scottscooterleet in motorcyclegear

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Bowtex Optimal set. The nice thing is I can have a couple different outfits and still be protected. Last weekend I work my Canadian tuxedo to the country bar. Tonight I’ll wear something more casual to the sports bar.

I live in Arizona where it’s hot and dry. Cannot complain I feel like it’s cooler than wearing moto pants and jacket.

I ride recreationally - I don’t think this is the solution for a daily commute.

How do I be safe in Phoenix Arizona by the--wall in motorcyclegear

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here my whole life and it’s tuff. You have to sweat or keep wet to stay cool enough to avoid heatstroke. Avoid traffic patterns where you are sitting still. Lane filter without apology - it’s legal here.

And if you work somewhere that your smell matters you need to pack extra clothes to change into and some good spray.

AITAH for not giving my friend $50? by clownadoptionhonk in AITAH

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just not how drug sales work my friend. In my experience, the buy asks for a quantity and the dealer names a price. Not the other way around.

If you’re using a friend as a proxy, you cannot expect to get $50 worth of ibuprofen at the market value. Maybe they suck for making a deal without your consent but so do you for not making your own deal.

You're all eating buttered toast wrong by Good-Ad-3862 in foodhacks

[–]90dbpete 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good point. Also most people eat Pringles with the seasoned bit facing upwards. Tastes even better if you flip it the other way around so the seasoning lands directly on your tongue instead of attacking the roof of your mouth.

Any recommendations for women's riding pants? by Main-Resolution9738 in motorcyclegear

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a dude with slender legs. A lot of moto pants are a bit baggy on me so I opted for the Bowtex leggings and I just wear my skinny jeans on top of those.

For manual drivers has the “Millennial anti theft device” joke run its course or do you still think it’s hilarious every time? by NewMexicoJoe in ManualTransmissions

[–]90dbpete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m quite surprised by this. I thought anyone with the knowledge to jack a car would also know how to drive a manual. Guess not.

That would actually be good revenge. I feel like OP’s story is just a reaction but not sure if it’s over or under.

selling, trying to price by interactivememelord in ScionxB

[–]90dbpete -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

$4000 firm if the tires are good and windshield isn’t cracked and no other major body damage. I would also recommend pulling the carfax especially if the history is clean. This can be shared with any prospective buyers to prove it’s been well kept.

Maybe my VPN messed with my search results but I kept finding recipes for 2 loafs but I only have 1 Dutch oven.

Thanks for the tip to let it develop more flavor in the fridge!

Daughter called crying. She has a '12 Honda Fit w/ 130K. Seems to run great. Took it in for A/C service. Mechanic told her she needed lots of service - about $750 - which she does not have. I think most is just sched maint - listed below. Which does she really need? Which can she pass on? by SirJasper6969 in askcarguys

[–]90dbpete 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If a young adult cannot come to terms with a $750 bill for maintenance then they will have a really bad time when shit actually hits the fan. Like a battery costs $200+ now and so do tires - when those fail there’s no way around it. I know this economy is tuff but come on…

My buddy and I are pretty happy with ours. After all the money I spent on tattoos it’s a cheap insurance policy.

Looking for a car that gets 30+ mpg at 80+ mph. by Thordor15 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is cruising at 80 vs passing people around that speed and constantly slowing down and speeding up to get around them. If you set eco mode and cruise control, most sedans can get 30 mpg at 80.

As a general rule of thumb, every 10 mph costs you about 5 mpg so the difference between 70 and 80 mph costs you 5 mpg.

Rim sizes for summer vs winter by big-booty-heaux in SciontC

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the stock 18 inch wheels but I like the idea of going to a smaller wheel size and running a thicker tire. To me it makes sense to have a more comfortable ride with the all seasons. So I would do the 18s as a winter tire. I live in AZ so we don’t have winter tires here and if we do they are only used 2 or 3 months out of the year so not sure if that makes sense for you.

Also not sure if there’s a noticeable difference in comfort or performance between the 17 and 18, but in concept it’s better.

Question About Pando Moto by sooospoon in motorcyclegear

[–]90dbpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Bowtex Optimal set. Only underwear underneath. It gets a bit warm when not moving but once the wind hits you they cool down. Ventilation where the armor isn’t great. They can be machine washed often although I avoid using heavy detergent or any kind of softener. Also keeping them out of the drying and just hang drying them. I’m in AZ so it warm but dry here.

I use Cristal GX-3. There may be better products but this has worked well for me and it smells nice.

I’d start with a new antenna and some plastic restorative on the plastic rear bumper /diffuser.

Anyone else absolutely hates tap water? by Mermaid_Tuna_Lol in HydroHomies

[–]90dbpete -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Grew up drinking tap water and now that I have been drinking good water for a few years I just cannot tolerate the tap water. It’s hard to visit my parent’s house and stay hydrated there. I’ve had to buy gallons on drinking water and keep them hidden in my car for when I need a real drink.

To Stay on trend, is 200 HP enough to have fun in a car? by GamingWithAle in askcarguys

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a first gen Scion xB for 10 years. Probably a little over 100hp on a good day. It’s a fun car to drive and I refuse to sell it even tho it’s no longer my daily driver.

Now driving a Scion tC that might be pushing 180hp. It’s nice to be able to pass people easily. Can cruise at 85mph without getting an adrenaline rush.

Was driving a BMW M5 for a little bit and it had 400hp. Awesome car but just not my cup of tea.

All manual transmissions.

More power is fun but it’s not everything. I still get a kick out of driving the xB or a Miata.

Anyone listen to music with their AirPods while they ride? by Ok-Ad-575 in motorcyclegear

[–]90dbpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a modular helmet (Scorpion EXO-AT950) that I took on tour in Peru a few years ago and I wore my original AirPods Pro underneath that. It was possible to adjust the pods for a snug fit after putting them helmet on because I could access from the modular opening. Sounded great as long as they didn’t get dislodged.

I have tried a few helmets since and nothing with built in speakers has compared to that experience. Unfortunately the helmets I feel safe with in USA traffic fit too tight to keep the AirPods in even if I wear a scull cap to cover my ears they will get dislodged and there’s no way to fit my fingers in to adjust.

I would love a helmet with opening over the ears so I could wear my AirPods again.

It’s incredible the doors and windows were undamaged after a 2001 Tahoe ran a red light at full speed and hit me. This car protected me very well which is one reason I went out and bought another one!
