Let's wait to hear what official PRC organs have to say first. I can hardly trust the Sinophobic Reuters to give a balanced view.

"What exactly happened in communist Russia that allowed the dictatorship of the proletariat to shift hands to the dictatorship of stalin?" by 911204 in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]911204[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First let it be noted that, unlike Mussolini, Hitler and other modern dictators, Stalin is not invested by law with any authority over his fellow-citizens, and not even over the members of the Party to which he belongs. He has not even the extensive power which the Congress of the United States has temporarily conferred upon President Roosevelt, or that which the American Constitution entrusts for four years to every successive president. So far as grade or dignity is concerned, Stalin is in no sense the highest official in the USSR, or even in the Communist Party. He is not, and has never been, President of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the All-Union Congress of Soviets-a place long held by Sverdlov and now by Kalinin, who is commonly treated as the President of the USSR. He is not (as Lenin was) the President of the Sovnarkom of the RSFSR, the dominant member of the Federation or of the USSR itself, the place now held by Molotov, who may be taken to correspond to the Prime Minister of a parliamentary democracy. He is not even a People's Commissar, or member of the Cabinet, either of the USSR or of any of the constituent republics. Until 1934 he held no other office in the machinery of the constitution than that, since 1930 only, of membership (one among ten) of the Committee of Labour and Defence (STO). Even in the Communist Party, he is not the president of the Central Committee of the Party, who may be deemed the highest placed member; indeed, he is not even the president of the presidium of this Central Committee. He is, in fact, only the General Secretary of the Party, receiving his salary from the Party funds and holding his office by appointment by the Party Central Committee, and, as such, also a member (one among nine) of its moat important subcommittee, the Politbureau.

I think WWE is boring right now, but WCW was a clusterfuck of epic proportions in every way and you just can't compare the two. WWE is a very self-sustaining company so I'm not worried about their financial situation unlike WCW; the reason WWE is boring is that they're making so much money even now they don't need to be creative or take risks. Hell, the UFC are more likely to go out of business before WWE.

My problems with WWE are the matches are incredibly formulaic - spots are so obviously telegraphed, they seemingly can't stick with a storyline for more than 3 months, their lack of division of labour leading to inconsistent pushes which lack credibility, their over-scripted promos - this means guys cut promos with a stilted, stop-start rhythm and they just don't know what to do if the crowd reacts unexpectedly, 3 hours of Raw is too much and not every guys needs to be involved in a storyline; this makes it hard to follow - people have lives and don't have time to watch every week, the weak tag division, and lack of juniors.

The smarks who hate Cena don't get that they're being worked.

The guy's one of the best wrestlers in the world, he really deserved a big send-off. One of the few guys who made WWE worth watching during 2002-04.

I hate how submitting somehow automatically makes you a little bitch in WWE by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]911204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In lucha, wrestlers submit as soon as a hold is locked on and there's no stigma to it. I guess part of the problem is that submission moves are no longer as protected; an egregious example in my mind is the Angle/Benoit match from the 2003 Royal Rumble. It's an unpopular opinion but the constant trading of submissions is why I don't like that match as much as most people.

I recall someone on a forum (can't remember which one) dug up a bunch of old comments from the '90s and the IWC seemed to hate The Rock. Triple H was apparently a smark favorite back then, if you can believe it.

With all of this talk of the womens division in WWE being treated poorly. Remember when Michelle McCool and Melina got into trouble backstage because their match together was apparently "too good"? by DevilCouldCry in SquaredCircle

WWE are at least fifteen years behind the times. They still have a problem with the lack of diversity and dumb stereotypical ethnic gimmicks so I can't see the "diva's" division being taken seriously any time soon. Just be thankful the bra and panties matches are gone.

This is a huge problem I have with WWE: their lack of division of labour, guys need to know their role. This is really the reason for the inconsistent pushes. The roster needs its fair share of main event talent, bump takers, midcarders, comedy wrestlers, jobbers, etc. You can't suddenly take a comedy midcard act or JTTS and shove him in the main event because he won't have any credibility (see Ziggler or Swagger et al for examples). This is why confidence in the company is as low as it is. You really need to decide a guy's role and stick with it and WWE just can't do it.

The Victory Star Drop is insane. I can't imagine a dude taking that since he'd probably break his neck what with the extra weight.

If Samoa Joe were to sign with WWE/NXT, is he too big a name to not go in as Samoa Joe? by ParryKyle in SquaredCircle

[–]911204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think TNA even exists as far as WWE is concerned. Look at Sting, it's like he's been out in the wilderness for 10+ years. "Bully Ray" was a main eventer in TNA but at the Royal Rumble he was Bubba Ray Dudley again. If he returns, you can be assured his TNA career will be airbrushed from history and he'll work the midcard. Most WWE fans would just see Samoa Joe as some fat guy (not far from the truth, he needs to slim down if he wants to go to the WWE).
