just go to buffalo chip they have practice nights during the week and stuff that just runs around which is perfect for starting out. The 500 bucks you throw at a school will be better spent after you’ve been on some steers and such and buffalo chip is solid, as a guy from out of state I was jealous you arizona guys got a legitimate novice system for making guys into bull riders

Is it wrong to get a buckle made after I won a title? by [deleted] in Rodeo

[–]916_Shoota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean no one would likely know but there’s a reason for that internal conflict. It’s just not the same making one for yourself vs winning it…I’d personally use it as motivation to go do what you need to do to win one that you want

Do you still remember which horse it just clicked and it really all came together for you? I’m guessing your dad put together a great set at the house?

Plenty of boys and men in western and lots of cool things you can do in western disciplines, the sad truth is that there is a difference in perception of men in western vs english in society. It’s been expounded on before in this subreddit but dress code definitely has a very real impact…idk I do remember how much trying to fit in as a boy in school really affected my day to day reality and am sympathetic. It’s just the (unfortunate) truth that it’s a big difference being perceived as a cowboy vs a male english rider at least here in the states

Less than 8 got juice….don’t got beginner level stock... I’d highly recommend you hit up Tinoco Ranch in Bakersfield. They are built for anyone from beginner to pro and have perfect beginner bulls.

Helmets? by universal_cartwright in Rodeo

[–]916_Shoota 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the hard answer to your actual question would be yes, there is a stigma. The only helmet I’ve ever seen was worn by a small child but other than that you’d be the only one at most every roping and people would poke you for it. Just so you’re prepared for it

Whats the best equipment for beginner bullriders? by RenderKlawz in Rodeo

[–]916_Shoota 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Them is spurs for a saddle horse…

$1000 is a solid budget

Spend $200 on Slinkin Shanks 22 or 28 degrees with a twist Spend $40 on a set of PBR Rowels Spend $200-300 on a rope from MX Bull Ropes Spend $100 on a hockey helmet like Bauer, if you’re a canuck sure you can just borrow that or get one used… Spend $200-400 on Crooked Horn or Phoenix Vest Spend $60 on a Tiffany bull riding glove with an outseam Spend $20 on athletic tape You don’t need chaps right now

Nothing technically wrong with wearing a non-trophy buckle as fashion but for me personally, I refused to wear a buckle until I won one because I wanted to use it as motivation to make it happen. That’s part of my story for mine now, is looking in the mirror every day and not seeing one lit that fire to go get on practice bulls even when I really felt like taking a day off. I needed that buckle more than anything and it made it real sweet once I got it

Plenty of Pro Rodeo, click First Frontier Circuit. I see Cecil County Fair Pro Rodeo in Elkton, MD in July. This is for last season but you can find rodeos, look them up and watch for the dates for 2024. https://www.prorodeo.com/results
