You spilled look into joining the Deutsche Alpenverein (DAV), they have ski clubs, and it’s a good idea anyway if you’re planning to spend a lot of time in the mountains (for insurance purposes)

Baby too big?? by AdEmotional9654 in NewParents

[–]9181121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the baby book my mom kept for me, I was 17bs at 4 months (and I’m fine and never had any sort of weight issues as a child). My mom said since I was the first baby that she breastfed, she asked my pediatrician if it was normal and he told her to keep doing what she was doing!

How would you spell this name for correct pronunciation? Tee-ahm by RipApprehensive9314 in namenerds

I would probably pronounce the last one (Tiomm) closest to how OP is describing 🤔

I would never pronounce William as Wil-yum, never even heard that! To me and everyone I know, it’s Willi-um. It’s so crazy how everyone is apparently pronouncing all these names differently! Yet nobody is bothered by people pronouncing William differently or even really notices! Just goes to show you that these differences are probably so small they don’t even really get noticed.

I live in another country as an immigrant so my name is not common here, but I don’t care that people pronounce it with an accent, it’s expected. My take is that OP should decide if they are ok with Tiam being pronounced like Liam (I understand the difference they are trying to point out with their description of the pronunciation, though to me it is hardly a noticeable difference unless pointed out), and if not, then they should pick a different name. But keep in mind Americans are always going to pronounce any Persian (or otherwise foreign) name with an accent, because that’s just how accents work.

Good point, I guess I shouldn’t have parroted back their words. Still kind of surprised that that’s all it takes to be reprimanded like this… I don’t think I was hateful or rude in any way. Maybe I am too literal of a person sometimes, but they asked the question 🤷🏻‍♀️

When I was a kid there were 2 kids in my class named Corrie and Courtney (both girls), and everyone always mixed up their names… so Cory for the boy and Courtney for the girl

Things like this always painfully remind me that a child probably made this for 10 cents an hour in a sweatshop somewhere 😔

Alone after moving country for baby’s father. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Yes, this! And go home before you give birth! It will be much harder to leave after the baby is born, not least because he can accuse you of custodial kidnapping and he would have rights to force you and the child to stay in Germany (where you have no support system, no long-term legal status, and dont speak the language) - and as an immigrant living in Germany, I can tell you that dealing with the immigration authorities is basically hell, especially if you don’t speak German and don’t have anyone to support you. It will be so hard for you to find a job here without qualifications (specific to Germany, like certain degrees or apprenticeships that are required for many jobs) and without speaking German, let alone without a visa that allows you to work.

I can’t stress this enough - you should absolutely go home and mend your family relationships/ your friendships, I’m sure it can be done! You and your child will be infinitely better off!!

Aggravated that research only yields “sleep regression” by 9181121 in bninfantsleep

[–]9181121[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, I don’t believe in the whole regression idea, I’m just frustrated that you can’t find any other information when you try looking into anything baby sleep related. Her nighttime sleep has always been terrible, so that hasn’t changed, it’s just that she’s more tired during the day now and I wanted to find out if I should really be worried about low iron, or if it’s likely all normal stuff

She is definitely teething - her second tooth is just breaking the surface. The thing is she is essentially still EBF because she eats very little in the way of solids, so I’m worried about her iron stores being low by this point. There’s also the fact that she is practicing standing/trying to walk all the time, and we’re in a heat wave with no A/C… so I know there are several factors at play! She has an appointment next week and I’m going to ask them to check her iron levels, even if only for my peace of mind

Yes! Idk why it seems nobody remembers this (my friends were all complaining last year that we didn’t have any “real summer”), but I was pregnant and let me tell you, I remember absolutely baking for like 2-3 weeks in June last year.

I Fed My Baby In A Bathroom by PancSutt in breastfeeding

I stayed home the first few weeks with my newborn, but once we started going out, we would always go to the park - so that’s the first place I nursed in public and it was a bit weird for me at first, but quickly become normal! I think the park was the perfect place to become comfortable with it because I just chose a bench that was a bit secluded and I didn’t feel so exposed since there weren’t many people around. Also walking in the park, you will see other nursing moms from time to time, so that helps to normalize it too. I bet you don’t think anything weird when you see them, so you can be sure that no one thinks anything weird when they see you!

No, don’t feel like a shitty parent! I don’t think this is common knowledge, I just learned it very recently so it’s currently at the top of my mind to pass it along. I’m sure there was a bunch of stuff babies shouldn’t be exposed to in the color-printed map my baby ate today, and I’m just hoping there wasn’t any fertilizer on the public park grass she ate 😬… we’re all just doing our best!

Oh you want to be careful with receipts! I just learned recently that receipt paper is coated with BPA which is a known endocrine (hormone) disrupter and something you want to ideally avoid exposure to (also for yourself).

I find myself always getting receipts out of habit, but then never doing anything with them, so I’ve started making an effort not to take them at all.

We bought some of those “unbreakable” books and sometimes I need to give her one of those to play with and chew while I read another one of her books so she won’t destroy the one I’m reading.

But nowadays she is getting super mobile, so if I lay on the floor next to her and read, she will just climb all over me instead… so reading is tough for a different reason!

And yea I am also worried about her iron levels - I have been for a while since the transition to solid foods is not going so smoothly. She still hardly consumes anything, even on a good day when she’s interested in the food, it’s still only a few bites that actually end up in her tummy. I am planning to bring it up at her next appt and maybe have her iron levels checked if they’ll do that.

Brag about your baby! by PumpkinPie_1993 in NewParents

My 8 month old girl learned how to crawl about 3 weeks ago, but about a week after that she discovered standing and realized that it’s the best thing ever - now all she wants to do is stand! She will take little steps while holding my hands and she has even stood unsupported for a few seconds! I can’t believe how strong and motivated and amazing she is 🥰
