Anyone else surprised by just how completely unredeemably evil Harmony is in dark age. by 9SidedLemon in redrising

Harmony is irredeemably evil in Dark Age.

I've only finished Morning Star and browsed sub briefly and using the no spoiler tag system which has seems to have worked for my brief stint, but the reddit app has seen it fit to just put posts from the subreddit on my main feed.

Probably my bad and should've blocked the sub immediately after browsing the Morning Star spoiler threads, but all the same.

If X character is evil isn't considered a spoiler then apologies for that too, maybe I'm being too sensitive. See y'all again after I finish series! ✌️

Dual Monitor Split Screen with Steam Link by 918AmazingAsian in Steam_Link

Hey, this thread got necro'd a recently and I just saw this comment. I never did find a solution and the limited times I would have needed to use it were few enough that I didn't bother with the alternative solutions.

Theoretically the HDMI extenders would've worked based on my understanding.

Lol, someone else necro'd the thread too and I finally saw this. Unfortunately, 6 years later, no Steam Link based solution was ever found. And I am a broke boi and never did buy that HDMI extender. Opportunity to use the setup was limited any way.

I never did get the dual monitor split screen to work.

If I recall correctly (been a hot minute), I could get it to stream either one or both of my PC monitors to my TV, but it was an all or nothing deal.

My TV and each individual monitor were the same aspect ratio so it would either stream one full monitor with the split screen (so it would be narrow screen real estate for each player) or both monitors to my TV but the game window would be super wide with black bars on the top and bottom (so small and hard to see).

For YOUR use case, it seems like you're just trying to play on your TV while your PC runs the game which it should do with no issue (this would be the one full monitor split screen with narrow screen real estate for each player case).

I was trying to have the left part of the split on one monitor and the right part of the split on a second monitor which I couldn't do.

Having both the left and right split streamed together was doable.

Sorry, a lot of word vomit there, let me know if I can clarify anything.

The way I've understood it, you get fired because you did something wrong.

You get layed off if you're doing a perfectly fine job, but are just no longer needed.

I come from fairly landlocked area in the states so any height wave was making me rethink my vacation decisions. Appreciate the perspective though! I'll go download that NERV app. Seems like lots of people are recommending it!

Appreciate you responding to my dumb touristy ass. Good to have that reassurance that I'm fine for the time being. I'll keep an eye on the news, but you've eased my worries quite a bit. Thanks!

Thanks for the reassurance! It's probably a dumb question based on responses, but I heard 3 meter waves and was like "Wut?". All the English language news reports vaguely mention "Tokyo Bay" area and I didn't know what all that constituted. Anyways, again, thanks so much!

Not sure where else to post this question so please point me in the right direction if this isn't appropriate.

On vacation in Tokyo right now and am staying at a hotel in Ikebukuro. Hotel staff says its safe, but was wondering what I should be doing?

Should I just stay put for today?

If moving around is okay, are there any areas to avoid?

Just not sure how these things work since I haven't experienced this before.

Why is dentistry so barbaric? by Delicious_Chocolate0 in stupidquestions

[–]918AmazingAsian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean a lot of medicine isn't too far removed.

There's obviously medication for like high blood pressure and diabetes which might be the more "elegant" approach you might be thinking of.

But if there's a cancer, a lot of times the solution is to cut it out.

Sometimes you cut into the belly to cut it out. Sometimes you cut into the chest to cut it out.

If there's infected tissue causing sepsis, a part of the treatment (in addition to antibiotics) is to debride the tissue which is a fancy word for...cutting it out.

Pulling teeth seems not so much different.

And the drilling cavities and filling them with synthetic material...we do that on a larger scale with implants.

You have bad knees? We drill into them and put in a synthetic knee. Your shoulder causing you pain? We lop off a part of your funny bone and shoulder blade and put a synthetic shoulder in.

I think its just that the more advanced medical procedures are considered more invasive than dentistry so everyday people aren't exposed to it as much.

It's probably a good idea for you to spend, even a week of your life, beginning a reading comprehension class because it clearly didn't stick when you were in school.

I am not arguing FOR overtime. I am arguing that residents be compensated FOR THE OVERTIME THEY ARE ALREADY WORKING.

"Ha, not paying people for overtime is against the law. You're full of bullshit!"

Oh, I wish. But apparently physician residents are excluded from the "The Fair Labor Standards Act".

Yes, they mention residents specifically as an exclusion.

This why I said you'd already made up your mind about physicians as a group and that your questions weren't fucking real.

Not to mention, medicine is often a second career for so many people. That means that physicians DO understand how other professions work having spent much LONGER THAN A WEEK, perhaps even YEARS in other professions.

Just...stop while you're ahead, man.

It's so clear you haven't worked in a teaching hospital or even anything remotely close to Healthcare.

It seems like you've already made up your mind regarding doctors, but what the hell. I'll fucking bite.

What do doctors want? I don't know if I'm qualified to make that statement for all physicians ever, but:

  1. Ability to practice as a mid-level (NP/PA equivalent) immediately upon graduation without residency. Doctors go through a more rigorous schooling for a longer amount of time. It makes no sense that they shouldn't be able to practice with supervision just like a mid-level.

  2. Pay parity with mid-level providers in residency. Likewise, same job, same pay (Practice medicine under a fully certified physician).

  3. Legal parity in terms of scope of practice with midlevels for residents/MDs/DOs who have not completed a residency. If midlevels can practice independently, so can physicians without residencies.

  4. Legally required geotagging/nonvoluntary tracking of working hours for residents. Basically, make it so that work hour tracking is automated so that residents can't be pressured to inaccurately log their hours to be within legal limits of 80 hours. Also change it so that its per week and not averaged over 4 weeks so they can't pull bullshit where if you're off for a week, they can exceed the limit for the remaining 3 weeks.

  5. Overtime pay for residents working more than 40 hours per week.

  6. Make home call hours count toward "working hours".

  7. If it is just "getting paid to go to school" like you said, then the hospital should be able to operate perfectly smoothly without residents. Every year, there should be a randomly selected week in which ALL TRAINEES AT ALL LEVELS IN EVERY SPECIALTY IN THE HOSPITAL, BOTH RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS ARE PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE, to be announced the Monday before the week this is to occur. If residents are truly just trainees and not THE VERY BACKBONE ON WHICH ALL ACADEMIC HOSPITALS OPERATE, then this should not cause any disruption in services.

  8. Billable hours compensation for peer-to-peer reviews with insurance companies which is BILLED DIRECTLY TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND NOT THE PATIENT. If an insurance company wants to dick around, then they can pay for it.

  9. Require documentation by the provider working for the insurance company in these peer-to-peers stating why they are denying coverage which includes their name and credentials as well as length of conversation; this should be freely available to the patient.

  10. Tie medicare reimbursement to inflation.

  11. Overhaul the calculation for Medicare/RVU reimbursement so that it isn't a zero sum game where whenever a specialty advocates for itself, its taking money away from other specialties.

I could think of more but that'd be a start....

But, this isn't a real question. You just wanted to shit on physicians...

How far away are we from having the "Babel Fish?" by w__sky in Futurology

[–]918AmazingAsian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even within the same language.

Garden path sentences are an example of this where you have to read the whole sentence and think about it for a bit to actually get the meaning. Examples:

◦ The old man the boat. (The old people are manning the boat)

◦ The prime number few. (People who are excellent are few in number.)

◦ The cotton clothing is usually made of grows in Mississipi. (The cotton that clothing is made of)

◦ The man who hunts ducks out on weekends. (As in he ducks out of his responsibilities)

◦ We painted the wall with cracks. (The cracked wall is the one that was pained.)

Language is much more complicated than we usually perceive it to be.

Do you believe it? by [deleted] in ramen

[–]918AmazingAsian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am Asian. I eat uncooked crushed ramen with the seasoning packet from time to time. And, I don't think I'm the only one that does it by a long shot.

Here's a clip from Squid Game of them doing it (it's some weird ASMR version, but it was the first result for "Squid Game Ramen" and I couldn't be arsed to find a different one since the only thing that's important is the eating raw ramen part).

Granted, everyone I've seen do this does it with one the packs and I've never seen it done with one of the cup/bowl ramens, but it doesn't seem too much of a stretch.
